      Yes this is exactly how they hooked me in. One of their first promo years ago was a free 1TB google drive for 2 years. After the 2 years was up and I had already uploaded 300gb to my drive, it was either pay for the service or lose it all if you don't download it and backup else where.

      It's smart marketing and no one forced me to upload to the drive, so it was me not foreseeing the future. Well played Google 👏

        300 GB is nothing. Could've downloaded in a couple of days max. Storage is quite cheap now. One of the places to cutback to balance the cost of living.

    After 3months you need to stay paying for 2tb plan of you have uploaded.

          No. But you stop receiving Gmails and can't upload anything else unless you remove the excess gigabytes.

    Google Drive now is rubbish in my opinion.
    You have to at best stream all your online files on your local PC. So if you have 2TB of files online you have have stream links to 2TB of files on your PC or have all the files locally as well.
    It didn’t used to work like this, you could select what files you wanted locally.

      Using Insync on linux, I can do selective sync, and just sync what I want to on the local drive.

    just get a dummy account add to your family and buy it from Turkey, you will have it much cheaper. if you search you will find it on Ozb. it is long running and works just fine.
