First deal, please be gentle. Only just saw this on 3camel. Not the cheapest it has been, was $196.17 a couple of days ago (Normally around $280 in Harvey Norman). But the Philips 2000i deal was on and nobody added this. I'm posting now because I got this model recently and think it's great in the 2 months I've used it. This will work well for a small room or office. Basic HEPA purifier that does the job. It's not the Xiaomi 3H, but the shape or profile might appeal to some. And you can breathe in a little less dust opposed to waiting for the next xiaomi 3H deal. Downside is more expensive filter replacement.

I have one of these and chose it over the Xiaomi 3H because it has the washable fine mesh pre-filter screen in front of the carbon and HEPA filters. This is easy to rinse every few weeks and I find this catches a lot of dust particles that otherwise would've gone into the other filters reducing their life. I may be wrong but I don't believe the Xiaomi has this pre-filter so all the large dust particles that I wash away every few weeks goes straight into the HEPA filter.

    • +5

They do have an inbuilt pre-filter screen - you can't wash it but you can vacuum the dust off it, which works just as well in my experience.

      • +4

I find washable pre-filters a must. Vacuum only leaves too much finer dust that ends up holding mould and turning musty.

        • +1

Mould and musty? I have 4 purifiers from different manufacturers (none are xiaomi) but none grow mould or musty. Perhaps you have a problem with humidity? I use carbon sheets as a diy prefilter.

      • it says to wash the pre filter in the phillips one. I have the same one

    • +2

Dust covers can be bought online, or just buy the third party filters - they have them too.

    • This is especially a good feature for owners of shedding pets. It’ll maintain the airflow and reduce unnecessary blocking of the filter

    • had a look at both, the filters only last 3-6 months on the xiaomi where as the phillips last 1 - 2 years and the phillips covers twice the floor space

      • The longevity of filters is just a recommendation (based on?) and depends on use. The room size is also a magic made up marketing number - the most important number is the CADR - clean air delivery rate for a specific substance (smoke, dust, etc…). You should always compare CADR and never rely on the manufacturer's room size recommendations. But that's just my approach and everyone to their own…

Can anyone recommend a air purifier and humidifier in one unit for a standard bedroom?

    • im looking for the same. from my research, not many options

    • Sharp used to make humidifier purifiers that have a plasmawave component. Don't know if they still make them. Problem with combining them is the frequent cleaning that would be required. And you'd need to use demineralised or distilled water to not reintroduce pm2.5 particulates from the ultrasonic process.

    • After quite a bit of research I ended up purchasing the Arovec AV-P152 a bit over a year ago. It's currently $139.99 on Amazon Australia. Has a true HEPA filter which I just recently replaced from ebay for $30 after over a year if use. I smoke 2-5 bongs per night (not 'bragging' just being honest)and this perfectly removes the smell of the smoke as well as any musty smell which might pool overnight. Room smells noticeably fresher in the morning. I feel like my sinuses are more clear in the mornings when I run this unit too.

      • Thanks for the honest review. My wife smokes inside sometimes, so this might be a goer.

  • The pwm fan speed controller is kinda annoying if it's used in the room you sleep in.

  • +1

I looked at this unit and whilst it is very good, I found the filter costs very high.

The Xiaomi 3H and 4 Pro have cheaper ongoing running costs.
The 4 Pro is a newer model and much larger than the 3H. I preferred this, as I could run it on a lower speed once the internal air has been purifier.

I also liked that it sucks in air from all around the body and not from one side like the Philips models.

    • +1

xiaomi filters last 3 or 6 months, phillips 1 - 2 years and it covers twice the floor area

      • Read my comment above - always look at the CADR, not the room size.

        • You are right! CADR is the correct figure and I complexity forgot about that.

I went with the Xiaomi as it suited my needs. But the Philips is still a good unit.

  • +2

How do these purifiers compare to say the Winix offering? Been looking at the Pro 5 (but notice Costco also stock the Pro 4).

    • The more you pay, the more bells and whistles you get. This, combined with regular vacuuming will get the job done. Xiaomi 3H has the most bang for buck, so if you're going to wait it out, set alerts and gun for the 3H the moment you see the $200 deal.

      • xiaomi filters last 3 to 6 months

the phillips 1000 series filters last 1-2 years (carbon, HEPA respectively)

both have generic filters available at comparable prices

also the phillips covers twice as much floor area

so i'll have to disagree with you on bang for buck, that is heavily in favour of the phillips imho

        • Floor area isn't the most accurate indicator though. I vaguely remember cubic metres is better?

  • +1

I have has this for about 3 years now and I love it. The pre-filter mesh already does a great job on catching dust, so every couple weeks I air blast it outside. And the hepa filter & filter maybe once a month

  • +1

I would highly recommend 2000 series over this. Worth spending additional $100 when that goes on sale.

    • +1

Looking at the cost of the filters, the marketing strategy of this model seems to be the same as printers.

      • +3

The main HEPA filter lasts for 2 years. They are $75 from HN.

        https://www.harveynorman.com.au/philips-nanoprotect-hepa-rep…

Some of the earlier xiaomis only lasted for 6 months.

The activated carbon filter for 1 year.

        • xiaomi H3 filters are rated 3 - 6 months only

and that particular unit covers half the floor space of the 1000 series

have you tried the generic filters for the 1000 series, you can find both carbon/hepa combined for around $50, not sure on longevity yet

        • I buy this from aliexpress as it's only $40

          AU $38.19 11%OFF | Air Purifier Filter For Philips AC1215 AC1214 AC1210 AC1213 HEPA Filter 36027527mm + Activated Carbon Filter 36027510mm Set

      • yes, but it's pretty much standard for this market rather than specific to phillips, before purchasing one of these a while a go i came to the same conclusion, fortunately you can find generic brand filters for the series 1000 and reasonable prices

not sure about their longevity yet but at least it's an option

part of the reason i went for this brand was that it's filters last 2x to 4x longer than other brands like xiaomi, if the generics hold up this unit will end up being great value in comparison to what else is out there

edit: no wonder you think the filters are expensive, it appears that you have a xiaomi where the filters last like 3-6 months instead of 1-2 years!

Any air purifier recommendations for pet odours?

    • The higher-end Winix purifiers have deodourization on paper, someone here should say whether that actually works though.

  • Will these work do fight damp air and mold? Thanks

    • +6

      No, you need a dehumidifier.

  • Do these help with pet hair? We have a little house cat and the hair getting onto my bed sheet will be the death of me. Even when she hasn't been in my room I can open my door and walk in and there will be some hairs around the place. A few claim to do it but now sure it's just like small particles or i'll notice an actual difference?

    • +6

Your more looking for a vacuum cleaner and washibg machine i rekon

    • +4

Regular brushing of your cat will help with that also, try keep a brush around just for convenience and give the cat a brush whenever its sitting with/near you, our cats love it and keeps down on some fur.

      • Robo vacuum is the best for hair. Recommend viomi V2 or V3, having bought two that I had to return prior.

    Owner of 2 x Philip Air Purifiers series 1000 & 2000

1 lasted only 3 years before it would only run for 15 seconds before automatically switching off.

Both have F0 error issues where you need to keep cleaning the sensors every week for them to work properly.

    Wont be buying them again.

    • +4

F0 is a reminder to clean the prefilter. You clear it by holding the far right button for 3 seconds.

I've got 3x ac2000 and my work has 7x ac1000. I'm very happy with them

      • -8

You dont have to clean the sensors that often for Xiaomi and kmart ones.

        • +1

F0 isn't telling you to clean the sensor, it's telling you to clean the prefilter. Clean the prefilter and then reset the F0 alarm the way butwhy mentioned above.

          • @Dejy: Sorry i meant, clean prefilter. With the other brands you dont need to clean prefilter that often for the sensor to properly work.

    • I bought a 1000 in 2019 when we got hit with the bushfires. It's run every day since then on an automation, and only just recently the fan shaft has begun squeaking. Hopefully it's just dust i can blow out and not a bearing/bushing failing.

      • Mechanically is just a fan which is pretty reliable, its the electronics side of things that usually fails first.

  • +2

Nah mate, i like to give it rough to first timers.

    • Fair enough, this is $9.70 higher than when I should have posted it.

  • +1

Sorry it always confuses me. So if I have a lot of lint, dust coming into my room, this is what I need as a solution? Will having this makes too much if a difference? It’s for my home office room where I spend most of my day and lint and small dust particles are pain now.

    • +1

That's what it is for. But again, you need to have a vacuuming routine in combination with using this. That's when it really starts making a difference.

      • +1

If you have more dust than normal coming into the room, it may be entering from outside. Caulk and seal cracks around door/window frames if it's a closed room. And you mentioned lint, so if you have a bed/fabrics lying around the room, launder your sheets and beat/dust your rugs and cushions.

    • +1

No! They don't really remove a lot of dust unless you run the purifier on max all the time. An air purifier will capture as much dust in a month as a vacuum will suck up after a few days. They are however very good at clearing out pm2.5 particulates.

  • Kmart largest one is great, 120 I recall

    • It's $159 and scarce

The Xiaomi 3H if it every comes back to $190-200 is a better unit it seems.

  • Can we do the Philips cash back with this one?

    • Nah. That came with the 2000i only.

      • +1

        Ah okay. $228 now btw.

  • I don’t run mine any more.

    Too many F0 errors.

    • +1

even after vacuuming the screen pre-filter?

i get it every 6 weeks or so as expected

    • Does it even matter?
I've had mine on F0ing for like a month before I even bothered getting around to it.

The thing still carrys on regardless.

  • +1

Price has gone back up to $228 for me. Anyone else?

  • +1

good deal, ended up paying $260 which was discounted, best price available at the time

bought one of these beasts after a neighbour decided to install 13th century heating next door, life saver

if you can get past the shaver like design they are well worth it, especially if your neighbours suck, filters last longer than competing models, generic options are also available ++

  • +1

Coming up as $230 for me.

  • I wish I could run dehumidifier on all night but so scared of the electricity bill.

  • Anyone able to recommend a good dehumidifier and purifier I Need one for a sealed off theatre room

    • Philips 5000 is a dehumidifier and hepa filter in one

  • I've recently bought a Sharp air purifier with plasmacluster. Not sure how this compares to that one but we're very happy with the sharp one. Obviously that one cost a bit more.

    • The sharp units are very good imo - just note that permacluster and plasmawave (similar) can irritate some people's respiratory tracts.

      • Oh thanks for that info, didn't know. Luckily we seem to be okay as we've only noticed the positive effects (less sneezing) :)

  • And it's done. Not sure how pricing works on Amazon, almost never lasts more than 6 hrs once it starts to get a few hits. $228.87 now
