2TB NvMe Gen 4 SSD with heatsink - very fast and apparently runs a bit cooler than the WD SN850.

Pretty sure this is the lowest ever Amazon price (MWave had a cheaper deal a while back) posted for the heatsink version and YES very suitable for the PS5.

Mod Update 4/8: Now available on back-order. Usually dispatched within 4 to 6 weeks.

Isn't Kingston KC3000 for $359 from PC Case Gear better?

    • Looks good, even with $15 delivery.

These two, the P5 Plus, and the 980 pro appear to both have very mixed reviews — that is to say, they all win in different scenarios - in my interpretation of the few reviews I've looked at - the sn850 is the best on average, but not really by that much - as again, it's different for every benchmark/application so it's not exactly clear cut.

    • tossing up etweem this and the kc3000

      which to get…

      • kc3000 claims to have 7000MB/s write speed vs 5000 of Samsung.

Just an FYI from someone that has one of these:

While you can remove the heatsink, Samsung deliberately don’t make it easy (pentalobe screws hold the heatsink together) and say that doing so will void your warranty.

It also identifies in systems as “Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink”.

If you’re thinking about getting this just to remove the heatsink, just do yourself a favour and get the non-heatsink 980 Pro.

    • -1

If you're thinking of doing that, you'd be an idiot, because the non heatsink version is available locally at near enough the same price.

Probably just taking off the heatsink due to clearance issues.

      • Not everyone's use-case is the same. On my motherboard's layout, there would be a huge chunk of an RTX 3090 in the way where the heatsink would be for the second M.2 slot.

        • Yep, I’m looking at one for the 2nd drive and the m2 slot is wedged on the back of the motherboard between the case, so a heatsink is no good

      • my current mobo has a heatspreader… if i can get the the heatsink vs cheaper than the non heatsink then why not? means i wont need a heat spreader if the next mobo i get doesnt have one…

        • You'd be an idiot to buy the import product with a heatsink already attached, and remove the heatsink, potentially voiding warranty.

That's three people that have completely missed the point of the statement. Am I taking crazy pills here?

          • @[Deactivated]: Yes you are for sure taking crazy pills.

Usually a heatsink is something you could easily take off and put back on again. Thundaja was warning people that with this drive it is difficult to remove and will void your warranty. It was a good FYI, so lots of people upvoted.

If you are after the non heatsink version, it's $379 on Amazon as well (seller is Computer Alliance).

  • Is this better or the WD SN850?

    • +1

very close. sn850 got better reading speed on the paper. just get the one on sale.
