    Budget airline vibes

    • +3

A lot of flag carriers are giving off those vibes.

Singapore Air now charges for seat selection. That's Scoot behaviour.

      • Is there an airline out there any more that doesn't charge for seat selection?

We booked a return flight on SIA a little while back, consisting of multiple legs, on which for the longer legs we ponied up for extra legroom seats. A couple of weeks back SIA changed their timetable and our flights were moved around, and we got confusing emails about having to refund and rebook the seat selection - it wasn't clear what exactly was going on. So I rang them to see what the go was, and I don't know what the nice lady from SIA had on the screen in front of her but I couldn't seem to communicate what I need to know; that is, were we going to be refunded the seat fee? Did we have to re-pay the seat fee on the new flights? Could she confirm that on the new flights we still had legroom seats? I wasn't even having a whinge, just trying to make sure I had the right story on what was happening. The upshot of all this is that we ended up getting refunded all our seat fees, but kept all the legroom seats. Score!

        • Don't choose seat, Risk it. Go early to the Terminal and change your seat at the counter without cost.

          • @Lexsus: I do that on domestic flights (well, when I was flying more…) and have about a 90% success rate on getting exit rows.

Internationals are a different matter. The legroom seats regularly sell out in advance, missing out is almost certain especially with the way airlines overbook flights. Plus, my wife has had a knee op and needs the legroom, it's just not worth the risk.

      • BA charge for seat selection in business.

yea looks good until they cancel the flight a couple hours before….

Can we really trust flying with Qantas now with the recent news about them..?

    • Of course.
Why else would Alan Joyce be getting pay rises.

as long as people keep catching covid eg Qantas stuff your going to get delays, thats why its a stupid idea to reopen everything when the pandemic is clearly not getting better. We have more cases and deaths now than 2020. So Trust has nothing to do with it, its affecting everything.

    • Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't this affected all airlines? It is not just a Qantas thing right?

      • -1

yes because of COVID!! people keep forgetting its still around and its still taking down people left and right.

        • +3

Oh dear, covid has now mutated into a computer bug and is taking systems down left and right.

@Goonos: definally not an IT issue I know alot of people in IT since I work in the industry, and the "it was an IT issue" was a load of BS its just another excuse from upper management this time throwing IT under the bus. In reality it was a lack of staff not showing up due to covid.

Travel with Qantas once, and decided never travel with the airline since then.

  • Who does anyone actually book the flights with?
The links take you to sites like kiwi.com that get terrible reviews.
