19 Sep, eth merge, this card will be sub $1K

One can only hope. They way current times are going it wouldnt suprise me if something new will come along and drive it back up. The different between a 12gb 3080 and a 3090 is definitely not worth the extra $800.

doubt it unless the 40 series actually launches this year, which I doubt it will. Also isn't this like the 4 or 5th eth POS date set? Very good chance they'll push it back to next year.

4090 this year, rest next year.

    • My 3080 buy price is currently $1099 so it's possible it will get close.

  • +1

    damn. this is pricey

    • Got my 3080 10gb for $1699, but that was 2 years ago.

      • +1

yeah, my budget is 1K. Still holding for a good GeForce GPU deal

As soon as i seen the PNY 12gb 3080 ($1099) come up i grabbed it. Even convinced my nephews to grab one to. Its all you really need. 24gb is overkill for 4k and 8k 60 in AAA is still not really a thing. The 12gb 3080 is the sweet spot in my opinion. Perfect Vram and power to max out the settings in 4k. Next gen 4070 might have the same performance as a 3090 but it wont have 24gb of vram. For 8k 60, 24gb is a must but you need 2x the performance of a 3090 ti and probably 2x the wattage.

          • @Izzy1985: yeah I grabbed one too. I was pretty tempted to grab the $999 TUF 6900xt that popped up a while back but it's poor ray tracing performance kept me away.

            • @Zorololo: Im not really worried about ray tracing but the DLSS is what im really after. I play on a 4k tv so id like to use 8k with dlss balanced to get a better image than 4k native. Helps out on tvs as the dpi isnt as good as a proper 4k monitor.

Any good for mining DN crypto?

  • Stupid price, the 4080 will most likely be out this year. Be under that price and out perform it ,especially in ray tracing.
Be patient ,this card has always a ridiculous price and still is lol

    • According to leaks 4080 and below are moved to the next year, until the current large stock of 3000 cards is cleared.

      • I would have thought Nvidia would want to beat AMD’s release date on the 7000 series?

Im not really up to date on all of it but i would think if AMD release first, many who have been waiting for a drop would get whatever is available and is the latest and greatest which would then pose a risk to Nvidias sales of for the 4000 series.

Again my personal opinion and i doubt if im right but you never know..

        • It's all leaks so everything can change, but looks like NVidia is releasing 4090 only earlier for exactly this reason, to beat 7000 series. It's also expected to be more expensive than 3090 (which was around 3k AUD) but I guess it would also depend on AMD prices.

      • I don't seem them not release the 4090 and 4080. AMD are releasing 2 models this year apparently. Nvidia will want to get put ahead ,the 4070 I'd imagine would be next year since it makes the 3090 irrelevant

you must be high if think they'll sell the 4080 under $1k. Expect $1600-1800 mark.

      • Expect $1600-1800 mark.

They won't if no one is willing to pay that much

        • +1

people are literally paying $1800 right now for 3090's even with everyone giving up mining

          • -1

@Zorololo: Well I didn't mean literally nobody, but even after dropping by $1000+ most of them are still sitting on shelves

          • @Zorololo: They are paying 1800, but very few are buying, and they are badly in need of a new card. 4080 would probably be 1300 to 1500 mark. But street price depends on demand. With all those 2nd hand card entering the market and new cards coming in, and with large inventory to clear off, hoping street price is less.

            • @John Doh: I'm hoping they stick with that price ,$1300-$1500 seems realistic. Especially since it looks like they've gimped the card compared to the 4090. If it's anymore than that I'll wait for a reasonable price or go AMD

              • @S1nn3r86: It will still be powerful, but definitely gimped very badly! So bad that it looks like 4080 has taken 4070's place.

                • @John Doh: That's of the leaks are true, could of been older specs. That's What im hoping for anyway. I was expecting 40-50% better performance over a 3090 but doubtful that will be the case if the specs are accurate. 7900 xt might be the way to go if it's not overly marked you from current gen msrp

                  • +1

@S1nn3r86: The core count difference between 7800xt and 7900Xt is massive. I am not expecting lower than 2K price. But for my UWQHD needs, 4080/7800XT is plenty anyway.

      • Expect no more than $1300-$1400. I'd expect a lot lower because there's no crypto demand. Expect lower because nvidia is obligated to their contract with TSMC. Expect lower because the ampere owners will skip this gen. Same thing happened with Turing demand

The TSMC chips are like $10 more per card compared to ampere. Everyone is blowing out of proportion the increased hardware/manufacturing costs of these cards.

        • For a 4080? Even without the crazy crypto demand (sort of), a 2080ti/2080 original msrp was 1200/800 usd. With inflation and everything, I'd expect at least 1500-1600 aud for a 4080, and that is if you can actually get one. God I miss the days when you can get a 1080ti for a little over 1000 aud.

  • I'm hoping 2k or less. If its marked up too much it will be a tougher sell compared to nvidia which is way more popular. Amd better have done their homework on ray tracing if they want to charge 2k lol I'm hoping for 1800-1900 . That's still a $300 increase from this gen, the 7800xt looks to be far apart from the 7900xt. But of its faster than a 4080 and cheaper that might be the way to go

  • hmmm not SOLD OUT means something

    • That not every man and his dog runs topaz lol. Topaz is a fringe justification for the price of these cards. For AI researchers sure but the cards are sold publicly with stock levels that far outweigh these researchers. It's obvious they're aimed towards gamers/hardware enthusiasts and in that context the pricing is awful.

  • Lol why upvote the other 3090 was better.

I've lost count of the amount of "for parts or not working" ichils on ebay

Waiting for the "Damn this tempting can't hodl any longer lord give me strength" comments
