    standard vs classic?

  • +3

I'd love a deal on the folding version

  • +10

    def ozbs fav knife

edit: I’ve got 4 of these for over a year and in the dishwasher daily, still sharp as!

    • +1

I don't understand. It takes 5 seconds to clean knives by hand 🤷 ..

      • +11

5 secs for each knife. Even then, 5 secs is not enough to wash and rinse one properly.

Takes 1 sec to put them in the dishwasher and know they come out very clean

        • +7

Don't forget disinfection, I value this as the most important feature of dishwashers!

      • +10

Life is too short. Kids, work, house. No way am I washing stuff by hand unless necessary

      • +4

need to fill dishwasher for plates, etc, anyway so also do smaller knives like the victorinox , they are cheap enough that i can have more than 1 ….sure shun or global knives don’t go into dishwasher and are hand washed but then it s$7 knife vs $100 knife and i can’t afford lots of $100 between wash cycles ……

      • +1

Yes but these cut all my sponges to shit lol.

        In the dishwasher they go!

        • That's a thought. I suppose you could gently use the scourer side of the sponge if you are like me and don't have a dishwasher.

      • +1

I am just washing one of these in the dishwasher right now, its all alone, no other items in there, So buying it a friend so it can be just the two in a completely empty dishwasher

        • yes, i have 5 with rounded tip and just put in with other knives and forks when i do a wash cycle …..turn on dishwasher about every 3 days ……this knife also comes as a pointed version with 10 cm blade …..find it handier than the rounded tip as you get a bit more cutting length……. the painted edge doesn’t seem to be on special so about 8 in shops and prime free delivery is more appealing than a detour to kitchen warehouse, etc when shopping.

      • No it doesn't - not if you don't have anything else to wash up by hand and have multiple knives.
It takes ~1 minute for hot water to even come out of my sink tap, let alone fill some water and wash up properly in hot with detergent then rinse, then dry multiplied by however many knives. Not to mention I minimise sponge use because they are yuck.
The dishwasher goes on daily - i buy dishwasher safe, well basically everything…
using this bulk auto dishwashing method is proven to be more efficient. It takes a second to throw them in the cutlery basket with everything else.
It works for busy families … so why would i wash it by hand!?
So to paraphrase you "I don't understand." It takes 2 seconds to put knives in the dishwasher that is going on anyway 🤷

  • With good reason!

I’d love if they made one in a 20cm blade

    • they do a chef’s knife

    • +1

they make 20 cm serrated / wavy …more commonly used for bread knife …..

      • Thanks. Dunno why but it never struck me to look for a bread knife from Victorinox

  • I got this one and its been pretty good IMO (except peeler which is not the best, gets the job done though)

  • +1

    got 4, ta

Keep seeing these pop up… Bit the bullet. Bought 3. We have Guinea Pigs and cut veggies often for them. Probably good dedicated veggie knives for this purpose. At this price I won't complain either way.. Definitely have more expensive knives that don't last the test of time so going off comments these sound decent.

    • +1

wavy edge don’t cut as clean as smooth edge knives BUT they do stay sharp and for many people that is the important part …especially when cut veggies .. not ideal for steak as they tear the meat and lots of juice runs out

      • +1

Clean edges don't matter at all for the stated purpose. So should be fine!

Then maybe we can sharpen our larger scanpan knives and use them exclusively for meat prep and they'll stay sharper longer..

      • I've had these for 15 years and you can sharpen them by turning over a ceramic cup (eg drinking mug).

I do something similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUQqqRdpq6Y

Finally caved in. Let's see if the hype is real.

    • +1

I did the same, let's see if these are really good. I received a smaller knife from this deal yesterday, and it is cutting very nicely.

    • +1

definitely worth every single dollar, it was $6 last year each, i bought 5 but only use 1,
cut on chop board, cut on pan and still sharp, be extra careful with your fingers!

      • +1

Still waiting keenly for any of them colours to drop down to $6. Got a few pink ones last year for $6 each. Still sharp as. Cousin asking me to buy them some now.

  • +1

Great knives. Thanks OP. Bought 2!

  • +8

I still have a healthy fear of these since my wife cut her fingertip and required a skin graft… Bought a knife block for these to be stored separately out of the cutlery draw so there's no accidents.
    9/10 fingers recommend.

  • Favourite finger slicer made chuckle, too true.

  • +12

Amazon always delivers in term of reviews.
    This was my favorite.

Like, in hindsight, using them the first night I received them with the family dinner served, Lamb chops, mash and vegies, and giving them to my 7yo & 10yo as utensils, as not being the smartest move, kind of sharp.
Along with my wife, both kids suffered an injury during the inaugural outing of these Devils Scalpels, and almost a half packet of bandaids later, it was me travelling to Hungry Jacks for take-out so the family could eat out of packets that did not require slicing and dicing with these bright orange sabres.
We're (all) still licking our literal wounds here.

  • even the spine of this knife is sharp enough to cut your finger lol

    learnt that the hard way

  • -1

I cannot understand why you would allow children of that age to use these knives.
What were you thinking? ….and every time these knives are advertised here there's a litany of woe about how sharp they are and the related finger slicing comments.Unbelievable.

    • -1

There are plenty of crayon eaters out there who are far too liberal to let their kids use extra sharp knives, retards!

    • +1

…and every time these knives are advertised here there's a litany of woe about how sharp they are and the related finger slicing comments.Unbelievable.

What kind of knife do you suggest then? A blunt one?

      • +1

the reason finger cust are an issue is because the serrations tear the cut and blood vessel ends so it doesn’t heal as quick vs a clean cut with a smooth edge knife …….difference is also you wouldn’t put a shun or global paring knife in a knife draw as it blunts the edge, these some people do put in the draw with normal cutlery as they are also advertised as steak knives ….

    • +1

      What were you thinking?

Some people think that the best way to raise children is to wrap them in cotton wool and protect them from every possible thing hoping they will grow up safe.
Other people think that he best way to raise children is to expose them to measured risks early so that they learn from that hoping that they will grow up well adjusted and adaptable to life's never ending challenges.

I make no judgement here, but you asked what they are thinking, they are probably from the latter category of parenting.

  • Can confirm I have cut myself more then once with these, great knife

  • Been using these bay boys for couple of years.. money well spent..

    Cheers Ametric :)

    ordered a couple

Edit: have done the finger slice myself
with a prior purchase from Ebay !

    • That looks like addiction then!

  • Maximum of 5 per order - the uneven number setting off my OCD not to mention got 6 people in the house.

    • Just buy 6 lots of 1’s, problem solved

  • Can you cut other stuff with it? E.g.: chicken?

    • +5

According to the anecdotal evidence here, probably not. They seem to be designed primarily to cut fingers.

  • Finger slicer indeed. Cut off the tip of my thumb with one of these.

  • Apologies…it appears as though I've clicked on the Comedy Channel.

    Forks !

I have so many of these knives, in many different colors.

    Need forks !

  • +1

    bought 5

    RIP fingers

    • If you hold the handle, and cut with the sharp end you won’t cut yourself.

  • Thankyou, I ordered 2 :)

These are great - but imo I like Mercer equivalents just a tiny bit more. Here's an excellent 4 piece set that come with nice scabbards you can hang:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Mercer-Culinary-Bar-Knife-Kit/dp/B…

  • +1

I was just standing in a kitchen shop yesterday looking at these, thinking, they look pretty good, I wouldnt mind trying them for steaks and such, but $13 bucks per piece was a bit much. Now seeing this deal today at $7 bucks a pop, i pulled the trigger and bought 4. I wanted more, but couldnt handle odd numbers.

  • These black ones have a straight handle, the red model is described as having a curved handle.

Is there any real difference between the two, is one better than the other?

  • Don't forget to buy some band aids with these knifes.

  • +2

Sharing my thoughts! Great sharp knife…. Maybe too sharp.

Had it on the chopping board. Picking up veggies to place into bowls. My pinky slipped by the knife just sitting there (no force or pressure) and managed to cut me and make me bleed for 20mins…

As others have stated. Definitely get some extra bandaids too :P

  • Just watch your fingers, I've sliced the odd nail.
I love these knives, I have had my set for a good 6 years now and they are as sharp as day 1.

  • Set of 6 for $41.95 [Set of 6] (https://www.amazon.com.au/Victorinox-Steak-Tomato-Knife-6-78…)

I am tempted to buy, but i am pretty scared of getting cut, i have their peeler, and its crazy how sharp they are.

  • Watch your fingers….

    They're sharp.
