  • Serious question, is there any risk this could burn my house down?
Or should I stick to anker or Apple brand

    • +7

There is always a risk for anything. The risk is definitely higher for a cheap product where the manufacturer isn't liable for any issues.

You can decide if spending an extra $20 is worth getting a charger that has less risk of damaging your device or property, and will last a lot longer than a better charger.

    • -8

Serious answer: Buy the most expensive product you can find. They are made in a special expensive factory

    • -8

Heymix is at least trying to be a good brand that I recognise. Don't get the no name stuff.

      • +10

        Lol how?
They work on providing the lowest price but with significant compromise as evidenced by the reviews. This cheap price gets them onto Ozbargain and then their fan boys take it from there.

They have enough problematic products that, in my opinion, they should be avoided completely. If you really must buy them, assess each product individually.

    • -2

SAA,…..case won't hold a flame ….. I've had no problems with my heymix chargers ……a few claim they have had problems……0.00001% of units made …….but it's hard to know what people were doing e.g using universal powerboards etc

      • +3

If that was the case, you'd see similar reviews on other chargers where people have used universal powerboards or dodgy cables. For some reason you don't - go figure.

      • +4

I have had a Heymix charger smoke after plugging it in. Directly into the wall socket and never had issues with any other chargers. It may only be a small number of units that have the issue, but a small chance of burning your house down is still a chance of burning your house down.

    • -5

Apple will burn ur pocket$ ;)
Always charge in the bathroom & u'll be safer. Samsungs reduce input to unknown standards. I have descent 48w similar charger from airport & Galaxy Note 10+ refuses to charge faster than provided 25w. Just ordered 'original' 45w via Ali express & will test the difference.
Will also measure with TP energy device

      • burh, the issue is not the charger, its ur phone being safe and preventing overcharging

      • if you go to the Radio Control Model forums, great place to read up about batteries and charging ….. batteries is one of their big expenses, and the size makes them a hazard if they fail …. yep I charge my RC batteries in the bathroom, the hobby shops also sell "charge bags", fire proof bags incase the battery explodes ……. charging phone on something flamable e.g carpet is not a good idea.

    • Any appliance or cord greater than five years needs to be checked

  • +33

Don't risk it with Heymix. There are plenty of questionable reviews on other Heymix products which include scorch marks, smoke, DOA, early failure, overheating, coil whine, and generally low ratings(<4).

For a selection of reviews, see this comment:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12351781/redir

I would strongly recommend something from a more reputable brand(Apple, Samsung, Anker, Satechi, Belkin, etc). If you really have to purchase one, choose one of their products which reviews better.

This is one to avoid with 4/5, imo.

    • +2

Yes. In general, with USB C, if the voltage is not negotiated properly, you'll end up burning out your devices, say putting 12V into a 5V device.

Not saying it happens with this product, but it's a risk.

    • +1

Ayyyyy the shoutout. Heymix is garbage lmao

    • Did know Satechi was a good brand. Thought they were similar to Heymix.

  • +3

Captain Hindsight sure to report back to us in 6-12 months after their charger ignited and caused hundreds/thousands of property damage that perhaps this was not worth saving 20 bucks on

  • +3

I'd like to see someone plug their Heymix charger into an energy monitoring smart plug to see how much power they draw with no load… I've seen a lot of reports of them running warm/hot with no load so it would be interesting to gets some facts to get an idea of how efficient they are are such… Heat=Power wasted=Money

    • +2

      I'm also curious.

I have a few and they all showed 0W plugged in with no load, unfortunately my meter only shows full watts. Mine run cool idle and in use. Pretty much all the chargers I have tested show 0W with no load (Heymix, Choetech, Zendure, Motorola, Google and Apple).

Check out the first review for one of the newer 65W models:
When left plugged in and turned on and nothing plugged in, the HEYMIX 65W Charger has an ambient power draw of about 0.13W.
I did the same measurement with my Apple 20W USB-C and the ambient power draw is 10 times less than the HEYMIX 65W adapter.

      • +1

Interesting thanks… Some Heymix chargers like this 65w GaN run very hot… 91c suggests it's drawing a decent amount of power with no load, a lot more than 0.13w:

        • +3

I have that charger and it runs fine.

It's pretty clear those chargers are faulty and should be returned, the seemingly high amount of duds is certainly concerning.

    • +6

I did just that after buying my first Heymix Gan charger after reading of all the folks warnings. Was looking at something to be able to passthrough up to 100w for my USB-C hub.

I have a 120W Heymix Gan charger (GAN120PRO) I bought in mid-July 2022 during Amazon Prime Day deals from Amazon.com.au at https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09P6B7XJ8/ which I bought for exclusive use with my Lenovo Carbon X1 gen 6 laptop connected via USB-C to Heymix dual HDMI 8in1 USB-C hub which I also bought at same time on Amazon Prime Day deals and the Heymix hub has 100W PD passthrough charging https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09PZ6QNR4/ and using it with a 1TB Samsung 850 Evo SSD in USB-A enclosure connected to the Heymix hub and also a Cable Matters Active HDMI to Displayport cable https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B00JQORLCG/ connected to Heymix hub on HDMI port and where the additional Active HDMI to Displayport cable's USB-A power is also being drawn from Heymix dual HDMI 8in1 USB-C hub.

I am using 120W Heymix Gan charger (GAN120PRO) with the Australian plug extension cable and have it plugged into my Power Mate meter to measure power draw.

      • At idle will 120W Heymix Gan charger is plugged into Heymix USB-C hub + Active HDMI to Displayport cable + 1TB Samsung 850 Evo USB-A enclosure, Power Mate meter reports idle draw at the wall of 4.1 watts and peak spike of 5.2 watts when initially plugged in. This is without the USB-C hub plugged into my laptop. Plug into my laptop idle power draw from Power Mate meter reports 5.0 watts. Meanwhile, my 100W BaseUS USB-C cable used between the Gan charger and Heymix USB-C hub with wattage display reports idle wattage of 2-4 watts.
      • Starting up my laptop connected to Heymix USB-C hub + 120W Heymix Gan charger, my 100W BaseUS USB-C cable connected to Gan charger and USB-C hub with wattage display reports fluctuating wattage between 13-51 watts and settles around 18 watts reported on 100W BaseUS cable display. While my Power Mate meter settles around 16.5 to 17.7 watts and peak reported was 54.8 watts. This is in non-charging state as I set my laptop to not charge at 80% full.

I also have 2 temperature probes from my Extech EasyView 10 thermometer attached to my 120W Heymix Gan charger (GAN120PRO) on the side front and back side to measure idle, operating and charge temperatures. I also bought 2x 120x25mm upHere AV/PS4 fan speed adjustable fans https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B082PXFHMP/ where I have the 120W Heymix Gan charger sandwiched in between them ^_^

      • Without upHere fan active cooling, at idle no-charging of laptop use of this Heymix 120W Gan charger + Heymix USB-C hub, temperatures measure around 31-34C and 36-41C on the 2 probes. With upHere fan active cooling on lowest setting of 1550rpms, it can drop idle temps to 26-28C on the 2 probes. In fact 1x120x25mm fan was enough, the 2nd fan only dropped temps another 2-3C. This is in ~23-25C ambient room temps.
      • Without upHere fan active cooling, when laptop battery drops below my set charge/no charge threshold, and charging the laptop via the 120W Heymix Gan charger sees temperatures of the 2 probes hit around 41-45C. With upHere fan active cooling on lowest setting of 1550rpms, it can drop active charging temps to around 33-38C. This is in ~23-25C ambient room temps.

Guess only time will be able to tell if this Heymix 120W Gan charger and USB-C hub combo works well. Yes not exactly the same 45w Gan charger discussed here but hope that helps someone.

I own 6 heymix chargers currently, none run hot

These stay super-cool when not plugged in.

  • Great to see another quality Heymix GaN charger make OzBargain's front page. Nice work, OP.

  • +5

Don't buy Heymix. I've had to send back 3 different devices and throw many more away because they either don't work properly, or simply stop working altogether.

If you do buy Heymix, get Prime so you can ship it back easier.

    • +1

may I ask which specific Heymix devices you had issues with? Would help others if you listed them too :)

I have this product, https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09Y5QZZTX/ref=ppx_yo_d… from this brand.

Been using it for a week to power a laptop, and so far, have had no issues. It doesn't get overly warm when charging and actually doesn't feel warm at all when plugged in and idle.

    Just sharing my experience.

Also, I have another 65w charger, similar to the https://www.amazon.com.au/HEYMIX-Charger-Adapter-Certified-C… on this link… However, from a different brand, but visually identical. It is still working, and I haven't noticed any overheating incidents, but one of the Usb C ports has died. I did use it for more than a year before that happened, and admittedly, it's still completely usable.

I haven't tried to check their power draws at idle though. However, after reading the feedback from similar products, am now tempted to try.

Aldi has an issue with a couple of vacuum cleaners and they get recalled, if Heymix so bad, why no recalls, samsung washing machine issues it's on a current affair, heymix issues, no recalls, no current affairs, nothing …..

black ones all gone, few white ones left, lets see how many issues there are. bought white one, thanks captain

    • +2

Aldi is a massive brand and they want to protect it. HEYMIX is just buying cheap OEM chargers from China and marking them up. Their brand name is disposable.

    • +1

Heymix will disappear as a brand before they issue a recall, launch a new brand and then relabel the same junk devices.

If you look at the Government certification numbers they put on their listings, half of them are for different products.

  • +4

I'll also chime in with my PSA to recommend NOT buying a Heymix. Was looking to get a PD charger during Prime day - ended up investing more on a Belkin unit. I'd figured I'd much rather pay for quality and peace of mind than risk fire and/or damaged electronics.

    • -1

So you didn’t actually buy the heymix product?

      • -1

That's the way I read it too. @highon2str was not considering buying a Heymix product, decided to buy something else so negged Heymix!!

  • I had one returned. It stopped charging at about 1 year mark. The 65w version still going strong

  • +1

    Garbage brand. Do not buy.
