Hey Peeps !

I’ve had one of these in my watchlist for a little while, and it has dropped down to $619 from $719 (Midnight Colour)

It’s still currently $719 @ JB Hifi and HN

I currently have a 12 Pro, but I just grabbed it for my old man, who struggles with tech and prefers a home button.

Hope this helps someone 👍

Edit: Thanks to snep, I cancelled the Amazon order and grabbed one from Officeworks Greenacre for $588,05

It’s still $717 at OW and it looks like there are a few around !! Go hard 👍👍👍

In my case, I definitely needed a home button for my old man.

      Seems decent though

      • +1

Ah, I see the SE has 5G and A15.

        • +6

Yep — same chip as iPhone 13 Pro Max

      • +1

Is this the same model sold in Australia retailers? (Just wondering about network bands etc)

    • How does the camera compare between this and the iPhone 11? Obv the se has a MUCH faster processor and will be supported for longer….

  • +5

Would consider grabbing one of these if they didn't still have a lightning port

    • +6

Next iPhone is rumoured to have no ports at all

      • +7

i'd say no way they'll make it no ports.

      • +1

Won’t be this year, I don’t use the port anyway.

    • -6

      You heard of wireless charging

    • Doesn't bother me - my devices, ipad mini and airpods, are still on lightning. crazy that it's not all USB-C by now but a lot of people are still lightning-based so it's not the end of the world for a lot.

the SE is a great phone though.

  • +12

Could try price-matching at Officeworks, too

  • +7

The red 128GB is only 699!

  • -6

You can buy iPhone 11 with price!!

  • -3

can't believe this is 2022 design

    • +5

I actually prefer smaller form for my work phone

      • +2

I actually prefer smaller form for my work phone

I prefer smaller phones too. eg The Pixel 5 is the perfect size IMO, it's a shame that Google no longer offer a normal sized option. Giant phones are not for everyone…

    • -2

Yeah, still looks like 2017 design. Waste of A15 chip.

    • Absolutely! What were they thinking?! I mean, there have been dramatic improvements to the candybar phone like… like… ummm… well, I suppose these days almost everything is a candybar

    • +17

Isn't that literally the whole point of the SE line? For those who want old school iphone design with current gen specs.

      • +8

No, the whole point is to be a "cheap" iphone, so they can gain market share, and because its "cheap" they purposely make it look "cheap/old" so as not to cannibalise the userbase who's normally willing to pay a lot more for an iphone.

      • +2

Personally I bought my SE for the small form factor and touch ID.

  • +9

Using this one right now. It's a bargain.

    • -1

I guess with increasing digitisation, we’ll have less use for stylish paperweights. But, I agree, at this price you’d be insane not to buy one of each colour

    • +3

How’s the battery life? Had the 2020 version and it was pretty bad, has it been improved?

      • +2

We buy them for work. The battery life when new is similar to the 2020 version, but it does feel slightly improved. Probably not enough to change your mind about it.

Batteries seem to degrade pretty fast on the SE's, I'm assuming the cause is smaller battery == more recharge cycles per week. We have quite a few phones dip below 80% capacity when under two years old.

        • -2

What do you do with them? Throw them in the bin?

      • Actually that is the only one that is bad. I mostly work from home so it's not a huge deal for me.

  • This or 11 pro?

    • +2

      Both 😂

      • Wish I could mate, have the 11 pro currently but I kinda miss the small factor and home button, could sell my 11 pro and get this one instead but I can’t decide, not sure it’s the right thing to do especially when I consider the 11 pro to be the best iPhone ever made.
        What do you reckon?

  • +1

Great deal, new a new iPad though!!

  • +4

Touch ID FTW, no FaceID shenanigans with masks on.

    • +6

I believe the latest version of iOS 15 has support for FaceID with a mask on.

    • +5

I much prefer touch ID. My 8 is still going strong but when it dies I will be going the SE.

  • Why do they still make phones with 64gb?

    • +1

Some (minority?) people can live with 64gb.

    • +3

      Because people buy them

    • +1

      Telstra Essential Smart 2.1 4GX Smartphone, 480p screen, 32GB storage, 5MP camera.
Android el cheapo range is far worse.

      • +1

        That's a low hanging fruit.

    • Because some people store their stuff in the cloud and not on their phone.

  • +1

Some interesting comments re the SE Iphone and many don't get the concept behind the design of this phone, which is that Apple survey results realised that men especially wanted a pocket sized phone and not one of those oversized poser jobs that women like to have sticking out of their Jeans pockets.Simple as that….I'm updating mine now. Thanks OP.
P.S.Nothing to do with "struggling with tech" as these Iphones have the latest tech,it's simply in a physically smaller form.

    • +1

      You’re welcome mate..

Unless OW catch on tomorrow morning, you can get a price beat for $588, otherwise at the $619 it’s still awesome value considering Apple don’t budge much on their pricing

Pocket size phone is a nice spin on this. There are iPhone 13 Mini and 12 Mini. This iPhone is meant to be the most cost effective way to get into Apple's ecosystem. Battery life is subpar and you get the simplest camera setup.

It's a smart move from Apple to put A15 in this phone. People who buy SE essentially take that into big consideration. I sold my SE 2020 recently. However, I don't let my family members use SE, they get standard iPhone or Max (larger screen and better battery basically). Parents and love ones get to use better phones than I do. Planning to upgrade them to iPhone 14 Plus or 14 Pro Max later this year.

No home button is no issue for my parents. They were the first to transition to home button less iPhones. Bigger screen, better battery, they are happy.

Make sure you really need A15 or 5G is a must or you haven't upgraded for years. Otherwise, it is mostly a fomo purchase.

  • Too small 4.7in

Once you go big you can't go small again.

    • +4

That's exactly what my missus said before she left me!

      • +3

So fast is not that important, size and longer lasting matter more? Of course I meant the CPU, the screen and the battery.

        • So fast is not that important, size and longer lasting matter more?

          That's what she said.

      • 😂😂

    • Once again it comes down to personal preference. My last few devices have been large (6p, XS max etc) and I'd happily consider going back to a smaller size now. Large is just a novelty it's really not that much better, especially trying to use the device with one hand or to fit it in certain pockets. The bigger batteries are good though.

    • +4

Eh, I've 'downgraded' to the SE. Much prefer it over bigger screens. One hand use > better content viewing. I have larger than average hands and find big phones awful to use.

Maybe most people use their phone for watching content way more than me, but I have a laptop/tv/ipad for that. Phone is for reading/social media/music. Smaller screen = easier to use and easier to pocket.

      • +1

and find big phones awful to use.

Same. And to demonstrate, my Pixel 5 is a 6" screen but in only 144mm high, whereas my 6a is only 0.1" larger at 6.1" which doesn't sound like much, but makes the device 152mm high (8mm extra), which is significantly larger in the hand and pocket. It's so noticeable that I gave up on the 6a and went back to my 5 because it just feels and fits so much better.

  • Can officeworks price match online or over the phone?

    • I’m not sure..

I went to my local and got the 5% price beat

  • +1

    Unfortunately now OOS

    • Up until late last night there were four in stock still.

Looks like they have been all snapped up now.

Officeworks would have cringed at my post 😂😂

  • Just a heads up that although this is now out of stock, you can still back order it for $619 with them

  • +1

Just backordered a 256GB Starlight after I ordered from the David Jones deal then they cancelled my order due to lack of stock yet you can still buy it online right now.

No wonder Amazon are the biggest retailer while DJ's is dying.

    • +1

      I’m a huge Amazon user

Delivery is quick and their return policy is painless

      • +1

For sure. Also thanks for the deal OP.
