Asus VivoBook 15X 15.6" FHD OLED, Ryzen 7-4600H, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD $1,266.84 + $19.95 Delivery ($0 QLD C&C) @ MegaBuy

Seems like a great deal for a maxed-out 16Gb 1Tb 5800H 4600H laptop with OLED screen.

5800H is 4% slower on single-core than the latest 6800H, 6% slower on multi-core, although the 6800H has a much better GPU.

Closest comparable deal I could find is this one from Harvey Norman for $1498 but only has 512Gb SSD.

The only thing I'd rather is the 120Hz OLED screen but seems like a great deal.

Also I don't think the usb-c port supports charging or connecting an external monitor, and it only has HDMI 1.4 as well, so only 4k30 max for external displays I believe.

  • This is proper good if true, but the model D1503IA-L1082W seems to bring up a 4600H everywhere not a 5800H?

    • Yes, I'm hoping they mistakenly used that code and then used it to price match other stores.

If you google "D1503IA-L1082W 5800h", it does come up with matches that are the same though.

It's impossible for me to tell because I can't find that D1503IA-L1082W code on the official Asus site. Both of them max out at 16Gb 1Tb.

What do you think? Guess I'll find out when it arrives… 🤞

This company has a terrible reputation for misleading advertising and some of the worst customer service around.

They regularly claim to have stock when they're dropshipping and have no issue cancelling orders when it doesn't work out for them. Sometimes with an instant refund…sometimes not so easy.

For anyone who doesn't know about megabuy yet, checkout feedback from their customers before you consider placing an order. A couple of links to get you started.

ProductReview feedback (Sudden rush of 5 star reviews from one post wonders makes me more inclined to stay away but make of that what you will)

        Dayum.

        Thanks for your research.

      • Damn. I've bought one HD from them and it went well.

Hoping I don't have trouble with this one… I paid by bank transfer so I can't have the chargeback option if it goes sour too.

Here's hoping it works out for you. If they give you any grief I suggest reporting to NSW Fair Trading, the more people who report increases the chances of fines being imposed for dodgy practices.

          • @OzBragain: I've dealt with Fair Trading a couple of times before, they were very good except once about aliexpress (seller sent the wrong item and aliexpress only partially refunded me), where they did nothing.

  • Does it have a DPU?

    Also soldered ram?

    • Nothing listed so it'll be just built-in graphics of the 5800H.

16Gb is the max ram anyway.

      • Maybe not if it were socketed…

        • From https://www.asus.com/Laptops/For-Home/Vivobook/Vivobook-15X-… it seems to have one socket, but it also says "Total system memory upgradeable to:16GB".

Would it be likely to work with mismatched ram sizes if you put a 32Gb in the slot? Maybe you could get it to 40Gb max.

I'm hoping that is the correct model site though. The product code they listed may not be correct, I can't find that product code on the Asus site.

          • @mortymorty: If it has one slot, you would be able to put a 32Gb sodimm in, for a total of 40gb. But the memory would run in single-channel mode so there would be a performance hit. Possibly not an issue if you need the extra ram.

Is this has a touch screen? I am looking for similar laptops with touch screen if anyone could suggest one please.

    • Intel NUC M15 is a great choice under $1150.

      • Thanks
