Got this during the last deal. Cashback got approved in 2 weeks.

    • How are you finding the network?

      • +3

        Patchy

      • +1

it depends on the place you go.

For most of the place I visit in SA it have no difference to Telstra at all.

I have heard horror stories from people in Mel/Syd though.

        • Terrible in Sydney North and Canberra.

        • In Adelaide and moved from Belong to Amaysim and there are many more black spots than with Amaysim than Belong. Mainly travelling along the Seaford train line.

        • I had amaysim for a month when I first arrived in Melbourne. I was applying for jobs at the time, and of course i needed a phone to receive any calls regarding to that. I once couldn't find my phone inside the house, so i asked my wife call my mobile to find it. The call never connected and she was sent straight to voice mail. After finding the phone, i asked her to try again, and she got the same result, but my phone showed a full signal . We tried again the next day with similar results, so i ended up moving to boost (telstra network).

          • +1

@pichxlonco: I get this issue regularly with belong. All support can suggest is that I check my voicemail settings, factory reset, blah blah. Then they just stop replying. No phone or live Chat (Belong)

      • +3

It is ok. I sometimes I have like one bar even when I am outside here in brisbane. I don't make a lot of calls but it does slows down the internet. A bit annoying when you are trying to find the next best deal on ozbargain.

      • good upload speeds for video meetings in my area.

  • Can I buy now then activate in Jan next year?

    • +5

You definitely won't get cashback, and $99 is kind of a regular price for "normal discount". You see them every so often via Amaysim, Coles Mobile, Catch Mobile etc (all using same optus network)

      • Is it definitely confirmed 100% that the cashback only kicks in after you activate the SIM / port your number over? I plan to buy this but I have just under 2 months left on my current plan so was not going to buy this until I am in my final month. If the cashback happens before you activate the SIM then I'll buy it now.

        • +1

Cashback is eligible only on a new service (SIM) which is activated within 30 days of purchase. Cashback is ineligible on any recharges to existing services.

it is definite, don't buy if you won't activate it within 30 days.

          • @OMGJL: Yeah, I will activate it in late Sep so will buy it mid-Sep. Thanks!

    • they will prob have a better deal in Nov sometime on the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday deals…usually 50% off…there are always cashback deals through Shopback.

  • Anyone recommend a good sim only plan for the kids with more than 8gb data/month. Currently with IInet but looking to change.

    • +3

Catch Connect $120 for 1 yr
      160gb

      • Catch is fantastic. I live in Shepparton and pretty always have reception (unless I'm in the middle of bum (profanity)).

    • +1

Boost $200 plan for 140GB, sometime they have activation bonus data on top. You can get them regularly for ~$160 on eBay, remember to stack with ~2% cashback ebay giftcard via Shopback etc.

That's if your kid know how not to exhaust the data way before expire date, forcing you to buy him a different SIM card afterwards.

Boost use full telstra 4G network and have trial 5G with no expire date, so you'll have full Telstra 4G/5G network.

      • Thanks mate, currently using 6-10gb data a month @ $20 but extra $10 for every gb over 8. So this could be a good option.

      • +1

Have been using Boost for almost 2 years. Overall experience within metro Sydney is good but there are some “permanent” indoor blind spots (e.g. Ikea Tempe) where other networks (optus, voda) have coverage except mine. It’s really annoying but I guess every network has blind spots, it just depends on where you frequently go. Would like to try other networks when my Boost expires.

        • Can one check their home/work address against blind spots of Telstra/Optus?Voda?

          Any websites?

          • @[Deactivated]: you do have access to "coverage map" on most of the mobile carrier, but you won't be able to tell if it's patchy or not.

      • What do you mean by

trial 5G with no expire date

From their website, it looks like 5G is temporary

the trial will end on the 28 November 2022. After the trial, your service will default back to the standard in-market network access for your chosen plan

        • It doesn't have an end date when I checked their site last time which is a week ago.

          • @OMGJL: Looks like it has an end date now at least. (Also, I checked just over a week ago, and their site already listed the end date.)

    • +2

      Moose mobile.

      • +1

        Yeah definitely Moose Mobile.
They have like $8 for 8gb per month for first year.

        • They have $8.8 for 6GB, OR $16.8 for 25GB, nothing in between :(

      • doesn't quite work out for his kid as the requirement is

for the kids with more than 8gb data/month

6GB isn't enough for him and the 25GB Moose plan works out to be more expensive than Catch/Boost yearly plan.

  • Is it for new customers only?

    • I think so

  • +4

i wonder when the 6 month for 9.95 deal will come back

    • I found the Groupon deals is a little too short on Data, 2GB/Month is not quite enough, forcing me to use YouTube music in off-line mode.

      • thats true, its for my father, and its perfect!!

  • +2

Not as competitive as the TA's deal. I always keep an eye on that one :)

    • Which deal is that?

      • I'm referring to this great deal:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/700309

@tightarse please bring this deal again <3

        • Wow same plan but $20 cheaper? Seems great but doesn't look like its going to happen again soon, so I may just go with this one.

    • Do you reckon it will come back anytime soon?

  • +5

Good price but no VOLTE. Some people lost calling in Victoria this last week when they turned off 3G2100. Your phone must have 3G900 for calling to work.

    See https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3xv6znj2

    • is this for all Optus ? I am on Coles Mobile and never noticed this until your comment. Just checked my phone (3G only mode) and it connects to U900. Tested with data as well and it was only on U900. When I switched to LTE it stays on L700.

    • According their help you just need to set your preferred network to access VoLTE?
      https://www.amaysim.com.au/help/mobile/getting-started/setti…

      • That doesn't work for me, I tried it on my phone just now. Goes to 3G when making a call. Pretty standard iPhone 12.

  • +5

I got the deal that ended up being approx. $55 after (cashback) for 12 months and 120gb. One of the best deals I've come across. I activated it on Dec 31, so hopefully another deal of that kind happens in a similar time frame when I need the renewel.

    • It's almost better than sim slutting price and you won't need to do anything for 1 year, you definitely won the true ozbargainer badge.

      • Spent the entire pandemic sim slutting between Kogan and others. With the end of the 3 month Kogan deal, I am keeping my fingers crossed we'll find a good long-term deal for 2023.

Edit: what an amazing deal the 12-month one (165GB, not 120GB!!) it was, with over 500 likes: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666005 - pray for its return.

        • Wait, the 3 month Kogan plan doesn't exist anymore?

          • @monkeyoutlet: Been sold out for a while… Forcing me to buy a Belong $80 SIM off a local OzBargainer with cash (from Telstra Day deal), he charged me $30,

works out with $20 referral bonus (=$100 credit on account), $25 first month and $15 thereafter, for $30 cash, I can use it for 6 months with 45GB worth of data. ($25+$15*5 = 20G first month + 5G thereafter + data bank)

            • @OMGJL: Is this offer still available? And how does one go about getting it?

              • +1

@cj3: Not really, it requires one to have Telstra Account and Telstra point to obtain. If you don't have it you'd need to contact one who have those and willing purchase and sell it to you.

                Try OZB classified.

    • If it's from last year, I got the same deal and got 165GB. They also added some more when there's flood in Queensland.

  • can we just port out and port on the same day?

    • +1

that I am not very sure, it might be a little risky for your number.

I'd rather port out to a cheap SIM like Kogan Mobile and use it for 3~4 weeks before port back in.

  • +4

Was about to buy this one, before I found the Coles 99$ 1 year deal and went for that. For extra 20 bucks, you get international calling + it's on the same Optus network as Amaysim.

    • Agree better value with international calls, I don't like using app based calls as they cut out a lot whenever mine or their phone rings so I always call overseas on IDD now since my Boost sim includes that. :)

  • Nothing but good experiences with Amaysim. Will probably go with this one for the next annual renewal.

    • +2

This isn't a recharge voucher though.

      • True. Wrong choice of words. I'll be porting in from another provider.

  • Over a year ago I got a good deal on Catch Connect, 60Gb, 1 year plan. Can't remember how much it was, maybe around $75? After 1 year I had used only 6Gb out of my 60Gb! They offered me to renew for $90 so I went for it. Easy and don't have to worry about it for another year.

  • +2

    Expiry Sept 30

    And for those wondering…

Must activate Amaysim by 15 October
Cashrewards/Shopback require activation within 30 days of purchase

So this seems to be able to be timed correctly for those looking at renewal in late Sept/early Oct

    • Must activate Amaysim by 15 October

This needs to be highlighted more. Would've caught me out as my original consideration for this was for late October (within 30 days for cashback).

  • This deal challenges Aldi’s $95/year data SIM. Thanks OP.

    • Aldi is on the Telstra network so depends on your needs.

      • +1

Aldi is on the Telstra MVNO network, not full Telstra retail network, where Amaysim/Coles etc uses Optus network (no difference retail/MVNO AFAIK),

and (In the area I go to often) I personally find Full Telstra > Optus > Telstra MVNO, but Telstra MVNO network isn't bad enough for me to avoid using when a good deal pops up.

  • Could i please know if kogan mibile 03 months 15.99 plan still on ?thanks

    • +1

Haven't see that for a while unfortunately.

    • If you google , you will find the active link

      • +1

Active link which directs you to the product page which suggest sold out…. unfortunately :(

  • +1

In the past Amaysim sent me a fautly SIM card but they were good about it; they gave me half-price on the $30 plan for 3 months. I didn't need all that data so this deal is good for me. I find the upload speed better in my area than Vodafone. DL much the same. I have two SIMs in the same phone (Telstra) so I am covered in all situations.

  • +1

Great deal. Works out to be $6.80 pm without all the hoo har of constantly porting.

  • +1

Wonder if the legendary Tightass can manage to engineer us a similar deal with a bit more data.

  • Got this for $60 plus $30 cashback black friday last November. Been pretty good. No complaints.

  • I got the last cheap deal but had several issues: 1. number port was stuck in limbo and their website is trash, called support and they told me they're on it, called them again 2 days later and they said they'd tell the engineers to push it through, called again 2 days later and the person just restarted the port and it worked. That's roughly 11 business days to port. 2. Cashback (CashRewards) fell through and called support whom told me many people's cashback fell through on Amaysim. Currently in pending status for the dispute, it's been almost 3 months. 3. Connection is okay, gets me by like Kogan/Catch Connect.
Would only go through it again for a great deal, otherwise had better experience with Catch.

    • Where did you port from?

      • Ported over from Catch Connect, which is on Optus network

        • +1

Comments from other members in old posts have said porting to the same network can cause issues.
You'd think in 2022 it would be fixed by now.

          • @WatchNerd: I guess next time I'll be porting out to Boost or Kogan first before Catch :L Yeah I also saw similar comments about porting within same network. My first time doing it in last few years

    • interested in where you port from as well.

      • Ported over from Catch Connect, which is on Optus network

  • +1

Lol at them charging $10 for each 1gb extra used over the included 60gb data, this could become very expensive if one is not careful!

    • +1

how about once you run out of data you port out to a different carrier…

  • Anyone know when I put my phone number in for port can it be delayed? I want to run out 3 weeks left of my Aldi then shift?

    • I've contacted chat and need a panadol as they are going around in circles. Chat said buy the plan and new number and port. Makes no sense.

      • From the description -

Cashback is eligible only on a new service (SIM) which is activated within 30 days of purchase.

When you purchase online there is an option to choose if you are porting or not. I always say I'm porting even if I'm not so the sim won't be delivered already activated.
You can choose to port or not when you activate.

        • +1

Thank you. I've mistakenly downvoted and I'm not sure how to change to a plus. Apologies ☺️

  • Recent experience with amaysim is bad. No signal for call and Mobile network. SE suburb in Mel.

  • Anyone know if it’s possible to recharge a regular 12 months unlimited with data plan with a no data 12 month plan and rollover data from the previous allowance?

I’m betting no but it’s always worth asking…

    • +2

What happens if I change plans?

If you decide to switch plans, your existing data bank balance will not be carried across to your new plan.

      • Thanks.

  • Kogan's small plan is $99 for 80gb, question is which network is better.

    • +1

Optus Network is usually better than Vodafone network, and generally in SA Optus network is faster. There are exceptions in certain area though.

if you buy Kogan SIM make sure remember to buy Kogan gift card before buying the SIM which saves you another few dollars.

  • Can you use referral credit and cashback together?

    • I believe referral credit is for recharge afterwards, not for the first activation. I could be wrong though.

  • Currently with Kogan and I tried to port my number when signing up to this deal but any error came up not allowing me to complete the purchase.
It said that my number is already in their system contact chat or call.
I've been with them in the past, but not for more that a year, plus as I said, I'm currently with Kogan.
I went to chat but "Ron" didn't seem to know what was going on and he said he escalated it and finished the chat….

    Anyone else had this happen?

Guess I'll have to give them a call which is a PIA…

  • I've been getting an error during checkout for the last 4 - 5 days…

Our shopping cart isn't working right now…

Whilst we twiddle with the on/off switch, we suggest you come back later and try again.

  • Got mine. Thank you
