Amazon with that instant reply, jeez

    • +6

Do you honestly think Amazon wasn’t involved with the JB promotion.

  • Does anyone know if there is any difference when using iptv for 4k max and regular lite?

    • +2

4k playback notwithstanding, the 4k max has a beefier CPU so will be generally snappier when navigating through menus and the UI. It'll feel 'nicer' to use.

    • +2

The processor in the Max is the snapiest TV device I've used by a lot, I've never experienced any kind of lag.

    • +1

The remote in 4k max also includes some extra buttons, including a power button and volume controls, and it's capable of transmitting via infrared (IR) to control your television directly.

      • Can it change channels on FTA??

  • +2

here is hoping Chromecast +g.TV is on sale very soon :-)

  • +7

Just a heads-up that the Fire TV Stick does not yet have a Binge or Kayo app. Wish I'd known before I bought one a few months back so thought I'd share.

    • +5

Agreed but it’s relatively easy to add, I put Kayo onto mine by following a guide from Google. The icon shows up as a black square rather than the Kayo picture but it loads fine. I think someone on here has a fix for that too.

      • +2

Do you have a link to the specific guide? I sideloaded it but it still never worked when other apps I did the same way did.

    • +4

It's good to get used to side-loading Android TV APK's if you have a Fire TV.

    • +1

As stated above, it's very easy to sideload it. I have Kayo sideloaded to my 4K Max and it runs great.

    • +2

      Google side loading apps

Prepare to have your mind blown.

      • +2

also pro tip for you fire tv sideloaders. If you know what ADB is, you can also turn off fire tv animations with your computer terminal which will make it much more snappy.

        • What does aggressive driving behaviour have to do with fire stick?

          • +3

@Muzeeb: So sorry for the late reply!. I just got charged for driving on an Android Debug Bridge by highway patrol.

        • Vinny - can the Fire Remote also change FTA Channel on the TV. I’m looking to replace a sluggish Telstra TV which does this with an inbuilt TV Tuner. Cheers

          • @Rizzler: Nope the fire tv remote can control volume for your TV and turn it on/off. Free to air channels can be accessed by installing the respective apps for each of the channels on fire tv e.g. 9now,7plus.

    • +2

Why not sideload. Takes 15 mins Max for a novice

    • I just canned my binge subscription, just because they had the nerve to up their prices but not update their apps / support, money —-> mouth

  • Any reason why I'd pick a Firestick over Google tv+ component? I'm mostly in the Google ecosystem, and currently have Chromecast linked to my smart TV (no android TV), so makes sense to go Google TV but keen to hear what others think.

    • +1

      Cheaper?

    • I have both, the Fire TV processor is significantly snappier, but the Google UI is better, the Google remote changes inputs and works better if you are using Google Assistant.

Both are worthwhile, but if you're willing to pay a little more, the Chromecast with Google TV is a little better.

      • +1

        Cheers thank you. Will do!

        • +1

also casting natively works on chromecast

think amazon only allows screen mirroring

          • @pinkybrain: I had 3 firestick tv. Ended up getting rid of them because Chromecast ecosystem is much better. I can't just cast to firestick like chrome… Chrome turns on my tv and YouTube just starts playing

      • Can the Fire stick change FTA channels in the TV? Would love to use this like a mini universal remote

        • No, all it can do is pull input to itself, only the Google TV has an input changer and it's a single button that rotates the inputs which may not include channels depending on TV.

    • If your TV speaker is crap you can get Echo Dot and pair 2 of them with Fire TV for theatre setup. (I got 2 Echo Dot 3 at $29 during prime day)

  • +3

I've got 2 of the 4k Max still in box from last deal, haven't event taken them out of the delivery packaging lol
Still rocking the regular 4k firestick !

    • +12

I've still got some cereal from my last grocery shop that I haven't opened yet in case you were interested.

      • Nah sorry I'm a museli guy :-)

    • Was that two for$90?

      • +3

two for $70 on prime day

        • Damn. That was a good deal 👍

    • +1

You clearly don't live life to the max!

    • +1

Me too, need more tv’s so I have something to hook them up to. Waiting for some good deals on tv’s 😂

    • yeah me too, I bought the two pack because it was cheeeep.

  • Does anyone know if i can watch EPL using firestick?

    • +1

I watched EPL the other night via Optus Sport on my 4K Max Firestick.

  • -1

i got no idea what this does? is it for Kodi?

    • +5

I purchased mine for myself as I didn't know Kodi wanted one.

  • +2

I picked up a couple of the 4k Max Fire sticks on a whim in the last prime day deal (2 for $70!) - and I have to say I'm loving them so far.
Super responsive UI and fast playback.
I installed Plex on mine and it's awesome. Previously I was using my Sony TV's android UI and that is a snail in comparison and would often sit there thinking, get stuck playing movies or continuing a movie from where we left off. The Fire stick is instant playback and so fast it doesn't even give me time to sit down and get comfy.

    • Which Sony tv do you have? I have a 2018 model and it’s smooth as!!

  • Will the 4k max passthrough atmos to the soundbar using plex?

    My apple tv isn't

    • If the Plex app passes it through then yes.

  • Thinking of getting one to use on our caravan tv. Any reason to go thr mid tier rather than lite? Can either sideload Binge?

    • For offline adventures you would be better off with a dex compatible tablet and get a hdmi to type c cable.
      Cons:
Dex compatible tablets are expensive and dont go out and buy 1 just for thr caravan but if you already have one this is worth trying with Netflix for example where you download content

    • Both should be able to sideload binge.
Really depends on the TV you're using it on (Hd, full hd, 4k.etc).

  • Can you cast from a phone to a fire stick? Not just mirror. I would want to be able to cast the Foxtel app

    • Yes, find AirReceiver app and load it on boot.

      • +1

That's another reason I got rid of the firestick. There was a new time limit/trial set by the air receiver app. Couldn't stream cause I maxed out the use for the day. I'd stick with chromecast

  • Can this play files off a drive/usb? Reading that the Max can mount a FAT32 drive only so it's limited to 4GB files, anyone use it like this? Also says 'Plus watch live TV' but assume you need an app/login for each channel to do this?

  • -1

I don't know if it would be safe to own a stick that catches fire.

  • this or Apple 4k

    • apple is overpriced, it's for people with plenty of disposable income.

  • Is there any point getting one if I'm going to use it on a 4K smart tv? I heard it was faster for Plex 4k streaming etc.

  • Not sure if i can ask this here - but is there any good IPTV apps for sports and VOD? happy to pay if its good

  • I think the free Tubi app is pretty good.

  • Tried the Fire TV Stick 4K Max on a 1080p monitor, strange it didn't work. Anyone else have this problem?

  • can this play the content from my NAS and make my not-so-smart TV smarter? Currently using an old laptop to play but prefer to have something not so bulky. Thanks!

    • Yes it can, you can install Plex or Kodi to play content from your NAS

  • FYI - this deal is back on:

    • Fire TV Stick 4K Max $59
    • Fire TV Stick $48
