  • Not PTZ? Only Z?

    • Hi,
If you are interested in the PTZ type, I'd recommend Reolink RLC-823A to you.

      Key features

      • Pan, Tilt & 5X Zoom
      • 4K 8MP Ultra HD
      • Person/Vehicle/Pet Detection
      • Color Night Vision
      • Two-Way Audio
      • Yeh, @ 3 x price. T & P don’t come cheap. That said, there’s also 2 extra times Z

      • wow that is quite expensive for just one camera

        $379.99

  • +1

I don't get the point of just zoom, where is the pan and tilt

    • +1

Most location cameras are like this, there is not usually a guy sitting there controlling it all day

      • agreed. what if you only needed a narrower FOV than the default (i.e. narrow corridor). with this you can zoom in and get a crisper image by default.

        • -1

If you can, its Best to record in a high res unzoomed image, then u can see higher quality still frames. Problem is lighting has to be really good.

          • @CarpeDiem295:

its Best to record in a high res unzoomed image

            ?
This is optical zoom so the quality shouldn't change. That's the point of optical zoom on a camera like this, you dont lose resolution zooming vs other cameras.

            • @Duff5000: But then you have less footage of the area cause its zoomed in

              • @CarpeDiem295: wtf? You replied to someone giving an example of a situation where you would want a narrower FoV. You told them you are better off with a wider FoV because "unzoomed" is "higher quality". When i point out you are wrong, it isn't lower quality you say you have less coverage due to lower DoF!

Obviously you have lower DoF, in the example given that's what you want! Wider isn't always better otherwise every camera would be 360 degrees. Narrower FoV means more pixels in the area you want.

                • @Duff5000: When did i say this
                  "unzoomed" is "higher quality"

I think you are responding as if you are being attacked.

                  Here are my points
Wide view with high resolution is good
Zoomed in with that same resolution - you lose how much is captured cause its zoomed.

                  • @CarpeDiem295:

When did i say this unzoomed" is "higher quality"

                    https://imgur.com/a/t73Bqag

"its Best to record in a high res unzoomed image, then u can see higher quality still frames."

I think you are responding as if you are being attacked.

Not at all, just presented with an illogical argument. Seems more like you just dont want to admit your first comment was wrong. Your first reply is suggesting zooming looses quality like digital zoom. Then you completely change to be saying "then you have less footage of the area cause its zoomed in".

That no longer makes any sense. It's like you forgot you were replying to a thread where the person had just said "what if you only needed a narrower FOV than the default (i.e. narrow corridor). with this you can zoom in and get a crisper image by default.

                    Anyway….

Nismoau was right saying "with this you can zoom in and get a crisper image by default.". Your suggestion of "its Best to record in a high res unzoomed image, then u can see higher quality still frames." was not.

              • @CarpeDiem295: This is true, but the WIDER the field of view, the less FAR it can see. There are less pixels on a single object.

The identification range of something with a common field of view (2.8mm or 114 degrees), is only around 6 metres.

I have a 2MP camera that has a 60mm lens or a field of view of 4 degrees and it can identify at 50 metres.

Wide are good for a general overview, but if there is something you want to actually see well across the front lawn, or its a narrow passageway like the side of your house, you'd want a tighter field of view. I wrote a fair bit about the relationship of field of view and identification here, with video examples.

@BryceW: Yes. Thanks for this also. This will be the exact reason this camera just has zoom, it helps with seeing further when required,

    • Hello Jessie,

        Holy heck at that price

      • +2

Please let us know when there is a 40-50% off sale for this unit and I'll get 1 or 2!

  • I presume you get what you pay for compared to say a Dahua tiocs 2.0 at 8mp which is circa $300smth?

    • +3

      yeah, this is probably better!

      very happy with mine

      • Also have similar reolink cameras, crazy good quality for the price

        • Reolinks really fall over for night time motion. They have small sensors, so they slow down the shutter to let more light in.
With a slower shutter, stationary nighttime objects look fantastic, but as soon as someone is moving they are all ghosts and you cant identify anything about them.

    • +1

Absolutely love my 822A. Integrates nicely with Home Assistant.

      • I couldn’t get person detection alerts working properly. Motion alerts were fine though…

        • Person and vehicle alerts work very well for me… very accurate too.

      • Am interested. Are you using the reolink NVR or your own contraption (frigate or similar)?

        • For now just using on board SD card but plan to link to Synology NAS or Frigate in future.

      • Is that ios?
        Can it record to icloud?

        • +1

          Hello,
Reolink App is both available for IOS and Android systems.
For recording: 1) Micro SD Card, not included; 2) FTP; 3) Reolink NVR.

      • I am assuming you don’t have an nvr?
Seems to me the nvr doesn’t integrate with HA or smart assistants.

        • +1

Not sure about NVR but cameras work very well with Onvif and pass on all the sensors through Reolink HACS integration.

    • Haven’t had any problems with mine too. Very good value. I debated Dahua initially but could not justify that it was twice as good given it’s double the price.

    Every single time.
I know it says Pet Detection, yet I read Pet Detective.
    Every Single Time.

I am waiting for a deal on RLC-842a

    • why is that better?

  • Any PoE human detection cam with 4:3 aspect ratio?
The vertical field-of-view is wider than this 16:9 camera.

    • Why not rotate the camera vertically then? That way you get even better view down a corridor??

  • I like reo-link, i just wish someone designed a turret, wifi version for outdoor with ONVIF lol

  • Can this be use with ANY of the reolink NVR or does it need to be a specific model for the Human/car/pet detection to work?? thanks

    • Hello,
Currently, all Reolink NVR(8ch and 16ch versions) support smart detection functions, so they can work with pet detection cameras. You can buy them directly.

  • Where is cs support based? Was told to AVOID reolink at all costs due to scummy cs and faulty/defective cameras.

My friend bought multiple reolink security cameras and he told me their cs is an absolute nightmare to deal with. Defective/faulty cameras along with scummy, illegal business practices that he would reprt to ACCC… Except he didn't buy from retailer in Australia. So he's 100% screwed

    • +1

I have 5 cams and 1 NVR of Reolink and haven't had a defect. No need for customer service so far so can't speak to that but have heard good things. They are active on reddit for help with issues and take feedback onboard. I've heard bad things about Annke service too but again haven't had a quality problem and support contacts have been positive.

    • Hello,
Reolink support team stays online 24/6 for the troubling shoot. If you or your friend got any problems with Reolink camera, feel free to contact us by here
We will contact you back within 24 hours.

      • Do you know where cs is based? In Australia? He says it's based overseas.

Yeah, he has contacted your cs but says it's not worth the hassle. He says it's like pulling teeth dealing with your cs team and has scummy behaviour. He told me to buy from a different brand

        • +1

I recently bought an amazon reolink NVR camera deal and one of the 820a cameras developed white screen of death over the course of an hour. After contacting CS via the Australian reolink site, a few days later I had a replacement camera. I had to cover the return postage but it was painless. The system was just over a month old but hadn't installed all the cameras (camera had only be installed less than a week before dying). I'd buy again how easy the return process was and simple the installation/quality of the system.

          • @Uncle BucK: Unfortunately he didn't buy from amazon. From what he's told me, it seems like he lucked out and got stuck with a crappy cs rep.

  • I need a deal on 811A or the new reolink duo 2, anything coming up soon?

  • Any deals on the Reolink Doorbell?

    https://reolink.com/au/product/reolink-video-doorbell/

  • +1

My 4 cameras are fantastic, just sucks that the NVR isnt google compatiable

  • Does it come with poe/power adapter ??

    • +1

      Hello,
RLC-822A doesn't come with a power adapter, you can buy one locally with this standard: DC 12.0V⎓1A, <12W.

      • And its not wifi?

  • Only comes down to $127.99 for me using de40fau. Am I doing something wrong? :)

    • +1

      Hello,

Could you pls try it again, it comes down to $119.99 now.
