Could be a runout of old stock, could be customer returns. Out of stock in the regular sony site. - https://store.sony.com.au/archived-television-4K-X9000/XR75X…

It has been speculated Sony use the ebay seconds to clear old stock to not devalue the product.

Can vouch for sony 2nd's products, got a 65 inch A80J recently from Sony Ebay and had no issues at all so far

    • +7

      I purchased a 55inch8500 model from sony's 2nd's 5 years ago and it's still working perfectly

    • +1

Bought a 65” Bravia from Sony’s seconds six years ago, it died six months ago. Not short enough to be replaceable under warranty, but much shorter than is reasonable for a TV around this price. Unlikely to buy a seconds model again.

    • +1

I can’t vouch at all. Bought a seconds x90j a few months ago and the defect appeared within a few hours’ use. Add the horrible Sony eBay support and you’ll wish you paid more. I ended up getting a “box damaged” instead and it’s been fine.

  • +3

Is it "Box Damaged" may have better condition.

I bought a 'Boxed Damaged' 65inA80J two months ago off Sony Ebay and it came with hole in the carton and a cracked screen. It was also missing all the instructions, remote control, stands and any other accessories. Sony eBay literally just sent me a cracked OLED screen. The stickers on the box indicated it was a HN return. Luckily, i read enough posts about Sony eBay previous bad experiences and took precautionary videos and photos during unboxing to substantiate my claims. Sony eBay team will not directly talk to any customers and all correspondences must be via email. It took me 6 weeks and numerous phone calls to Sony hotline to get my refund. In the end, it was not even Sony eBay who refunded my money but eBay Plus. Sony eBay demanded that i must close my case with eBay Plus before refunding. Luckily eBay representatives advised against it, told me to ignore Sony's demand and gave me a full refund directly. So my advice is always try to buy direct from proper retailers but if you want to buy from Sony eBay, at least pay for monthly eBay Plus which is only $5 or $6 per month before buying from Sony eBay to ensure you have adequate protection when things go wrong.

      • +3

Damn that is one terrible experience. I remember reading about someone who bought a new Sony TV direct from Sony and it had a cracked screen. He never recorded opening the box and Sony refused to refund him because the box was undamaged. In the end it took him months and months going back and forward to finally get his refund.

      • +1

I had a very similar situation with a 'box damaged' X90J about two months ago. It was clearly a return with a very beaten up box covered in duct tape. The foam inside hadn't been put back in the box correctly and the screen had a massive crack in it and there were fingerprints all over the screen. So much for a brand new TV. So frustrating. I had also read about people's bad experiences and took tonnes of photos and videos when opening the box but, yeah, I still had a painful time trying to get the refund through Sony. Luckily I had eBay plus too.

      • +1

Just went through the same nightmare with a "Box damaged" 65" X80J, the delivery was delayed 3 weeks as they said they couldn't delay the delivery until I moved in so went through many back and forths to change the delivery address.

Then it was returned back to Sony as DHL depot was full a week after they confirmed it can be delivered to the new address. Then had to wait another week for it to be re-delivered from Sony to DHL to my address. When it got delivered, there was massive crack in the screen and the back panel was loose/about to slide off. There was actually no damage on the box and everything was new, but the foam inside clearly had a massive dent where the TV was cracked…
Spent another week trying to get them to give me a replacement unit.

DHL only came today to pick up the damaged unit for return so not sure how long this saga must continue for but it's been 2 months since I paid for this TV….

  • 55” and 65” also available. 65” at $1595. Don’t know if I should, especially since the lowest price (brand new) was $1500.

    • I got 65” this time last year when eBay had that massive sale as well. About 1300 or 1400.

It was “seconds” but Sony had only just released this model it at the time so I speculated that it’d be new, and it was, so was lucky. I suspect you’d probably get a new one.

      • That was my thought. These are on clearance in shops and it is very odd for such a large quantity to be listed as "seconds". There was at least 15 when I posted.

        • It's a gamble. I really want an a80j but they're near impossible to find at a good price now

  • +5

come on old plasma Panasonic die just die :)

    • +4

You still rocking a Panasonic ST60 as well?

    • +3

      Hammer time

    • +5

If you need to rationalise the purchase then check to see how much power your plasma is using vs the new tv, 5 years of use the tv will pay for itself with the difference.

      • +1

My thoughts exactly. It's costing you money NOT to buy it!

      • +4

Stories of plasma power consumption are wildly overblown. You’re probably only going to save about $50 a year upgrading from a late model plasma.

        • +3

And it is a pretty good heater as well.

        • +2

My 60" ST30 Pana uses about 300w constant draw, my dad's VT10 50" Pana uses 1000w. The differences in power consumption were massive at the tail end of the tech so it really depends model to model.

  • LED tho

    • Well spotted.

    • As opposed to what? Genuine question!

      • +1

        Probably OLED

  • +1

Would buy if it was "85

    • X90J doesn't come in 85"

      • X95j then

  • +1

    Nice price, good for sports?

    • +4

Yes, no problems with Who Listens to the Radio so far.

  • +6

Be careful with Sony and make sure that you inspect it before you sign for it. There seemed to be a batch of these in Brisbane that were cracked before customer delivery, I'm one of those that spent weeks chasing for my money back.

    • +2

IMO I've seen quite a few "Hi Sony your tv arrived cracked" only for Sonys reply to be "We took a photo before shipping so it must be you". I've seen this enough times that I'm too scared to buy a TV from Sony anymore incase something happens in shipping. I'd very much at least be filming the opening process if I do get one.

  • +4

I bought this a few weeks ago. Took 2 weeks to deliver to Perth, but only came with one foot (for standing on entertainment unit). Took another 2 weeks and multiple follow ups to get the second foot.

  • -4

This isn't a box damage or refurbished tv but actual just returns that passed an visual inspection. For something you'll use often for the next 5 years, you'd rather pay an extra $400 and get a new one.

    • +3

I'm 100% sure when I ordered I got a new one. Everything was perfectly packaged and service menu showed 0 hours on the unit. YMMV.

  • +2

Great deal! A few years ago I purchased a 'factory seconds' TV from Sony's AU eBay for over 50% off and it seemed to be brand new- not even a mark on the box.

    • +1

      That was my experience.

  • +3

Previously had very bad experience with these guys, buyer beware, will take a lot of effort to get a refund.

  • Really regret not buying the 77 inch OLED they had a few months ago for about $4200. Have you seen the prices for some of these new OLED's? Crazy!

  • +2

Buy from these guys at your own risk.

Bought a seconds product and it came with a smashed screen (looked like a pallet had run into the box). Had to argue with them for weeks and got a massive run around. Ended up doing a PayPal charge back because these jokers kept stalling me.

Worst customer service ever. I'd never buy another Sony product again.

    • +1

I was going to pull the trigger on this, but the word "Seconds" and Sony's terms on what this means, means I'm not going.

"As the products being sold may be manufacturer refurbished or factory seconds, minor cosmetic variations may occur. These cosmetic variations have been checked by our Sony Authorised repair agent and do no impact the function of the product. We cannot accept refunds for items based on appearance."

So yeah, it could have a big dent in the border that doesn't impact the screen and still be deemed to be acceptable.

  • I’ve been trying to hold off till LG has a sale on the 65” C2. This seems to be pretty darn good in contrast and at practically half the price of the all time low so far for the C2.

Worth pulling the trigger or nah?
Use case: Gaming on Xbox series x/switch, Netflix, YouTube and TV (of course)

    • I bought one for the same use and it's freaking awesome.

I am no tv nerd, and reviews talking about viewing angles etc concerned me but this thing is fantastic.

    • Same here m. Fark missed the sale last month fuming

    • I have a c9 65” and the x90j 65”. I don’t think there is anything I prefer about the x90j. Even the google OS is worse. I watch movies, play PS5, lots of streaming and YouTube. I would get the LG oled over this every day of the week. It’s not even close.

  • +1

LED is on the way out unfortunately, unless you're going for 8K or a cheapie no-name down at Kmart. Samsung is going all in on OLED now that it reckons it has better tech than LG. So the number of different panel makers is going from 1 to 4 over the next year or so. People who buy an LED now are probably going to feel like the guys still holding onto plasmas. When the last of the LEDs go out, they'll go cheap on clearance. Computer monitors are also going OLED at the high end right now. OLED is still pricier for a smaller screen, so this might still suit a few people. It is hard to exactly determine how everything is going to be priced with the new competition and perceived differences in technologies. Samsung might well have the better panels longer term, but they're untested and there could be problems with defects and returns initially. Warranties might help but hopefully competition will ultimately bring prices down. More competition should also bring more innovation and LG might also have some tricks up their sleeve.

    • +1

To be fair cheap LED less than $1300 for a 75 inch still has a place in the market, but 2k for a 75 inch led, nope no way in hell. lol
      For example: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/712930

    • +2

OLED pricing for displays that provide the necessary brightness for well-lit rooms is still not there.

      • +1

Taking the huge hit for literally everything else though. Unless you only ever watch tv in a sun soaked room, which you clearly don’t care about picture quality anyway. My c9 gets very bright during the day, far greater than what I need from it. Meanwhile my x90j reflects everything, so who cares how bright it gets.

        • Yep I agree. Have a Philips 805 with similar LG CX panel and it's wonderful. Ambilight is a huge bonus too, less eye strain in a dark room and the screen looks bigger :P
I believe the Sony X95/XR95s have the better reflection coating.

  • The deal is of course valid for a whole bunch of other items in their store. I just got a 43" x85j for $835, as an upgrade for an ageing Sony 32" bedroom TV.

Felt it was the best I was going to do at this size without going OLED. Rolling the dice and hoping for a brand new one they didn't manage to get rid of in runout…

    • The 90j is super reflective if you have light sources in the room might be worth looking at 95j

  • Can you extend the warranty

    • We back our eBay products with our
standard 12 month warranty. We do not offer extended warranties.
All products available to purchase have been thoroughly tested by a
Sony Authorised repair agent before being made available to
purchase. For more information, please see
      http://stores.ebay.com.au/sonyaustralia/faqs.

      • Well that’s a shame I would go buy it at the shops then

  • Decided to pull the plug; hoping it's perfect! Used my own Ebay code instead which brought it down to 2079.

Just need a wall mount, and it appears you can get some for approx. $30 as opposed to paying $120+.

    • +1

I got this one from Bunnings for $39 for my 75x90j

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/crest-large-fixed-tv-bracket-wal…

It's a bit hard to access the ports on the back, but I guess you plug everything in before hanging on wall. USB port will also be hard to access, so you might need an extension cable (or use the USB port on your AV receiver)

  • +1

Can anyone share their thoughts on this vs TCL C727 for $1595 RRP? (Was <$1300 recently)
I get that that TCL is TCL however QLED FALD vs LED FALD?

Secondly the Hisense 75U8G is $1795 RRP, I know they ship a different version here than in North America but it rates very similar on rtings whilst being a fair bit cheaperf

    Thanks

    • I know they ship a different version here than in North America but it rates very similar on rtings whilst being a fair bit cheaperf

Then why compare them? The panels and OS are completely different.

    • Apart from TCL OS being slow, the image quality is amazing for <$2500 TV. You wont be dissapointed.

    • +1

Without doing a side-by-side and looking into the C727, I can tell you most of Sony's lineup is effectively 'QLED'.

QLED is marketing-speak, and other manufacturers have largely similar technology under a different name. At Samsung it's QLED, at LG it's NanoCell, at Sony it's Triluminos.

    • This deal was tempting until my research indicated that for PC gaming the Sony doesn't support FreeSync and AMD graphics cards don't output HDMI Forum VRR so unless one or the other gets supported by an update then I'm back to condiering the Hisense 75U8G though I've yet to pull the trigger.

Please EDIT as many may not understand:

[eBay Plus] Refurbished Sony XR75X90J 75" X90J TV $2,089.05 Delivered @ Sony eBay

I would include the following in the main post:
Condition: Seller refurbished: The item that has been restored to working order by the manufacturer, eBay seller or a third party

  • +1

They've been reloading box damaged for 2499, 2375 after discount.

I have gone for one of these, though it has been an advemture, canceled first order as it was over 21 days delivery 7 days over estimated. Got refund only to realise no stock left anywhere, so have come crawling back willing to cop lengthy delivery, what a shame. But seems like the best tv at this price point.

  • +6

Finally sold out, I was watching it go down to zero so I could tell myself that I didn't want to gamble on a seconds one anyway.

  • -1

Bought my pioneer 55” in 2003 from panasales. Still going strong. Arguably better than my current plasmas and LEDs :(

  • I got a new one a few months ago and this tv is amazing!

It got VRR + VRR with local dimming on Update recently which is a massive game changer for ps5 gaming!

I just sit infront of my 75” nowdays rather than my 3080 pc with a tiny 34” ultrawide

Games are 10x better even though pc is better because of the size and emersion factor!

IMAX Movies with 4k dolby vision with apple tv4k is mind blowing! Even better than vmax movie experience imo!

    • -2

Just wait till you get an OLED or future micro led ;-) Size makes a massive difference, but the backlighting and blacks ruins it for me on the 90j, just really not that great, and becomes almost unwatchable for me when using subtitles.

      • blacks are so overrated for me

I’ve seen content side by size before

the minor advantage oled has over led (0 blooming and blacker blacks) wasn’t worth 2-2.5x the price for a 75” for me!

Plus i don’t have to worry about burn in and the led is brighter than oleds unless I get top of line $6k+ 75” oleds

        • Ah yea that’s fair, not everyone values picture quality in low light. I have c9 oled and x90j lcd. It’s literally night and day in nearly every regard. And they were almost the same cost too. (65”).

I use my oled for everything including gaming from ps5 and PC. No burn in after 2 years. Never worried about it. I guess some people might?

Either way, like I said, not everyone is picky when it comes to picture quality, hence why so many are happy with LCD TVs.

  • +1

Received my tv today - so took 1 week.
Everything about it looks brand new, as if nothing had been taken out of the box. Works perfectly.
The only thing I noticed was that when the tv was on, and the screen is not showing any content - just full grey/setup screen - there is a small fist sized discoloration in one spot. Just slightly darker as if someone or something has pushed into the screen in that spot and left a 'stain'. Very faint but otherwise unnoticeable.
I am assuming this is what made it 'seconds' - a slight defect.

Couldn't work out how to view usage hours to see if it's actually brand new. Will try again once I get a chance to wall mount it - which I am not sure if I should do myself.

Overall very happy, great picture, size, sound and price!

      Power off TV

"Display, 5, Volume+, Power" - does not have to be done fast. Press lightly.

      • If Volume+ is not working, try Volume-
      • Display is the most bottom right bottom with the i+ on it./

Bluescreen menu will appear, select "Self Diagnosis"

My X90J refurb from this deal arrived on Tuesday.

Courier called before arrival, they had it standing up strapped to the side wall of the truck with plastic on the sides to prevent damage to the box.
Just setup tonight. was shipped in original box (couple scuffs on the box) with replacement straps on it. TV came with clear plastic on it just like brand new. Can't see any physical faults or scratches with it or any issues in the panel.

Updated it to latest software to support VRR on PS5.
Pity there isn't many games that actually support greater than 60fps on PS5. I might bring my PC into the lounge for some couch gaming now.

Ran the self diagnosis tool mentioned above and TV appears to be unused as the numbers are 00003, 00008, 00003 which was just from my use in setting up and playing some games today.

  • +1

Finally installed the wall mount (myself) and ran the self diagnosis tool - no 'previous' hours so tv was new.

    • +2

Mine also had 0 hours on it.
Looked like all original packaging, just a small bump on the external box which could have very easily happened during transit
