Kogan currently have a 10% off promotion with the code on their Kogan SmarterHome™ products until the 13th of August. However in my testing it seems that it's discounting more than just 10%. You'll see the banner above the price on eligible products.

According to the comments it's cheaper to buy the bulbs linked below in packs.

  • Anyone have any experience with the Kogan robot vacuum? I'm assuming better off getting a Xiaomi?

Does a good job on hardwood floors, app shows where it's been

I bought the Kogan LX12 a couple of months ago. It cleans surprisingly well and the battery lasts about 2 hours - enough to do my whole house with about 20% remaining. The app shows the mapping quite well, though for some reason it resets itself every week so I don't bother renaming the rooms any more. It loves to get stuck on charging cords and shoelaces, but I'm not sure if that's specific to the LX12 or if they all do that. So far I don't regret the purchase.

Pretty much all the ones in this price range do it. Only the more newer and expensive like the Deebot X1 for example have the advanced cable avoidance.

  • The GU10 2 pack comes down to $9.99 with the discount

FYI, for some things the 4 pack is cheaper than the 2.

I would recommend the wifi kettle, only get up once when making coffee

    • I have the Kmart one and it is great for working from home and quickly making a hot drink between meetings. Only wish it could alert when the water level is low.

      • Unless you need 100 degrees boiling water
otherwise I find instant hot water dispenser way more convenient
        kogan has one https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-instant-hot-water-dispens…
but Philips one seems to be the best in the market

        • Out of interest, do you have the Kogan one? How do you find it (if you have it)?

        • I use my Breville Barista coffee machine that has hot water dispenser too.

how bout when you need to pee?

      • +1

I only pee after drinking coffee.

    • My Kogan wifi kettle only lasted maybe a year before it started leaking. Threw it out.

    • I bought it 8days ago… very sad =(
The first wifi Kogan kettle died. They refunded as Store Credit. Bought new Stainless Steel one ($83). I m happy with it so far.
I just yell hey google and scheduled it for morning

Kogan IR Universal WiFi Remote Controller $6.99(kogan.com)

comes with device and USB cable only. No adaptor.

    • +5

For that price of course. I'm sure everyone has a heap of old USB phone chargers.

    • Does this work with Foxtel IQ3 and IQ4 units?

  • I have experience with some smart devices from Kogan.

e.g. The Kogan energy monitoring smart plugs: You can hear the capacitors buzz & it doesn't do power monitoring for low energy consuming devices.
I also have the smart bulbs - they reset and erase config even if you don't want them to (the colour changing ones).

    • +2

Never experienced the reset issue with my Kogan bulbs.

      • I have 4 of them, they all have the problem.

        • Do you have a noisy powerline? Might be triggering resets

          • @0 0 0: I haven't had any issues with my other smart devices.

        • +1

I have about 40 of them

          No problems with the bulbs.

    • I have 8 Kogan Smarterhome GU10 bulbs. Coming from a exclusively Philips HUE setup, I was sceptical, but I couldn't justify the cost of the HUE GU10's. To my suprise, they have been incredibly stable. Much more reliable than the LIFX bulbs I tested.

      • What do you use as a switch for these bulbs? Have Hue at the moment and want to try these bulbs - do you have the bluetooth ones or wifi?

        • Mine are wifi and I use Alexa voice commands as the switch. Also have an outdoor Arlo camera that triggers some of the lights to turn on if it detects motion during nighttime hours.

    • I have a few bulbs and I'd say that they're inconsistent. Some of them are silent and work flawlessly. One is noisy, and the other one resets its config every now and then. If you buy a 4-pack expect to have 1 dodgy one in it.

    • I have had multiple Kogan smart bulbs for years - one of them would occasionally disconnect but I don't think it's happened for a while.
Also have kettle, garage opener, smart switches - they might have disconnected once or twice for short periods.
Yes, the bulbs and switches have some coil whine - a lot of things do.

    • 3 of my Kogan Smart Switches (with energy monitoring) have just stopped passing electricity through the socket when switched ‘on’. Anyone have any tips?

      • I bought a 4 pack and 2 stopped passing through power, although the usb charging still worked. I assume something inside with the switch fried as there was a bit of an electrical smell. Got a refund under warranty.

        • Ahh fair enough, thanks mate.

  • Is that universal IR thing, compatible with HomeAssistant?

    • +1

Through Tuya, I think it is (based on a Google search)

      • So can I confirm, this puppy will do an injection of IR signals via wifi, right? Like turn on or off the AirCon?

Tuya, can tie to homeassistant yeah? (though I hate the new API way to do stuff, I STILL haven't set it up since they messed up my Genio bulbs)

        • Tuya officially announced Home Assistant integration a while back now. Even does offline stuff by memory
Here a quick google link on it:
          https://developer.tuya.com/en/docs/iot/Home_Assistant_Integr…

          • +1

@sc00terMcTav: No, they announced that they plan to support local usage, but they've made no progress since. It may still happen but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

There is localtuya integration which is semi-local (requires cloud credentials but shouldn't need to communicate online most of the time) but it's a bit temperamental, and requires additional setup with more complex devices.

          • @sc00terMcTav: I used Tuya, with HomeAssistant for like 18 months, maybe 2 years.

The difficulty is the backend API crap, you need a cloud acocunt, gotta fiddle around like you're in an AWS dashboard.

            It was much easier before.

    • I was about to ask this same question. Not a fan of Tuya though.

      • Can I ask why? I like it on my phone, personally. I hate how it integrates with HomeAssistant. It feels quite convolouted.

      • I'm confused, if it works with Tuya, won't it work with HomeAsisstant, you just need the stupid cloud account rubbish (which looks fiddly to set up?)

        • +1

Tasmota is just another option. Tuya is dogshit and I wouldn't allow that crap anywhere near my house again.

          • @Tacooo: Can you elaborate further, I'm curious to know more.

I can say it worked for me at first, till that idiot cloud change like 9 months ago? It was so complicated to get it working I gave up, need to spend an entire afternoon.

I think some of my genio bulbs are too new, to get Tasmota :( soldering doesn't sound fun.

            • +1

@hamwhisperer: You flash Tasmota onto the ESP chips (most use ESP chips, if not then tough luck). It uses the MQTT protocol to communicate with a broker installed on Home Assistant and you control them via that. You do need to do a couple solder joints just to flash the device then you don't need to ever touch them again. These IR transceivers are super simple though and all the solder points are readily available once the unit is opened up.

Send me a PM if you want more info. I've helped multiple people on OzBargain to get their Home Assistant going with Tasmota and other stuff over the years.

A fun exercise is finding the base design of what Kogan have customised on the Tuya expo site and seeing how much worse it looks with a Kogan logo on it.

  • Can I use the Logan remote controller to replace my bonaire remote controller or the evaporative air con needs different type of controller?

  • What's the difference with the Bluetooth mesh gu10 bulbs and ones without?

    • Without what? A complete sentence?

      • The Bluetooth mesh sorry I thought that was clear.
The globes are identical but some have Bluetooth mesh for $5 a 4pack more.

        • +1

Oh. The manual talks about it.
The Bluetooth ones need the hub.
Pretty pointless except for people with bad WiFi but many Kogan Bluetooth mesh devices…

          • @McFly: Oh too easy thanks. Na just looking for 12 globes to go less than 10m from router so should be sweet.

  • Been using the bulbs for a year or so. They're actually very good.

  • Since Kogan First doesn't offer free delivery to my area, it's actually cheaper to got the Kogan IR controller from eBay.

  • How can I ban anything Kogan related from me?

  • Does anyone know the range of the IR thing? Like can I hide it, across the room (4 metres) aimed at the aircon?

  • +1

    thanks for this op

  • Been using their smart light bulbs for about 4 years. Had an issue with one 2 years in and grabbed another 4 pack beginning of this year. Also have their led light strip which stopped working, got refunded for it and it works again after unplugging for a while. Light bulbs work well with app and google assistant
