That was a quicky for Gerry!

  • When it comes to PS5 at Gerry's shop, moral obligations are exempted…

  • The ps5 I bought two years ago is eating ashes now.

    • You set it on fire?

      • played 4k blu ray occasionally, other time was in sleep.

Trying to snag another one as my toddler poured cough medicine into mine and it went pop :(

Big oof, mate. My 2 year old at the time poured his cup of orange juice on my Xbox One. Kids are expensive.

My son when he was 2 thought my Panasonic Plasma was a good place to do some gardening with his rake. He scratched the screen up pretty good.

    • The toddler that has now gone missing, right?

He's got a job as a short order cook to work it off

They sell PS5 dust covers on Amazon. That should also stop it from happening again.

  • +1

My PS5 is a glorified PS4. Haven't got a single PS5 game since getting one in the last big EB drop.

        • +2

I'm not sure how common crossplatform multiplayer is but if lots of your friends have a Playstation you'll probably want it too so you can play online with them.

          • -3

@FireRunner: Well that's the thing isn't it… Their friends don't all have playstations because they can't get one. It's literally just blind fan loyalty like the way they all think Iphones are the only phone worth buying but can't tell me why.

            • @Ruddaga: They probably have PS4s and all planned to upgrade to PS5
But yeah I get what you’re saying, if they can’t provide a reason other than this one is cool and the other is lame but then it’s fanboyism

        • +2

You are literally the fan boy as you bought one.

          • @onlinepred: Except I'm not?

I'm a gamer and I want access to every game that comes out. Console exclusivity is why I have to own every single console so I don't miss out. Not blind fanboyism.

And if I'm being honest I haven't turned my PS5 on since….. man can't even remember the last title I played on it. Horizon maybe?

            • +1

@Ruddaga: So you aren’t a fan but you raced out to buy it so you don’t miss out. And you don’t even use it. Cool cool champ. And you call others lame for wanting one.

      • Hopefully the PS5 can run PS3 and switch emulator soon.

Shouldn't be long till someone JB it.

      • +2

So just out of curiosity why did you get a ps5?

        • Because I'm a gamer and I want access to every game that comes out. Console exclusivity is why I have to own every single console so I don't miss out. Not blind fanboyism.

          • @Ruddaga: Right… and your reasoning, that wanting every game possible is the only justification to buying a ps5 as a posed to just wanting to get say fifa and play with some friends.

What's weirder is that your are/were a teacher and can't grasp the concept of simple preference or choice.

Everything in life has variety, MS wouldn't be competing like this if they had a stronger hold on the market…its good to not have a monopoly…and ps PS Plus deluxe can be had for $40 a year too so I don't see why you think everyone who is on a tighter budget should opt for XBOX and nothing else makes sense.

Edit: sorry for ranting but the arrogance coming across that anyone has to justify the choices they make to match your needs or level of understanding, is what I truly find puzzling.

            • @mantrex19: Oh wow. Personal attack on my career choice to try and prove your point. This is where my experience as a teacher comes in handy because I'm used to dealing with juvenile responses (while we're picking on juvenile responses, what's a posed? Do you mean opposed? Maybe you should've spent more time in your English classes there mate ;D ). And also lucky for you that it's recess and I have 20 mins to spare a response :)

Of course personal preference can come into it but the point I'm trying to make is that the students in question couldn't even answer me when I asked them as to why they wanted the PS5 over the Xbox. Their response was "Xbox is trash". I know this probably resonates with your level of maturity given your initial response, but as a teacher I feel it's my job to try and educate people on all the available options rather than having a limited outlook because Sony's marketing team has done a number on them. I also talk as someone who was a young broke student himself in that I would've dreamed for something like Xbox Game Pass when I was a teenager, instead of having to wait months etc to either save up for a game or get one gifted.

If you were to ask me - which is better Xbox / PS5 / Switch, my response would be - they're all the same. Pick the one that has the games on it you want to play.

My taking issue with my students saying "Xbox is trash" is that they couldn't explain to me why one was better than the other. And they couldn't list off any exclusive title that they wanted to play. Now if they had turned around and said "Oh I love God of War, can't wait for the sequel", fair enough. They would at least be making a logical statement other than "Xbox is trash". But as the student in question that referenced my og post is not a gamer and only plays Fifa and is also one poor person, my suggestion to him to perhaps give the Xbox a try as the game pass is a cheaper option (that also includes the title that they want to play in the first place) is where my og stance is coming from.

My personal opinion to all the people crying out that they can't get a PS5 is this - The PS5 currently has almost no exclusives on it that are worthy of mention. This isn't personal bias or my own preferences coming into play, this is straight out fact. The students I'm referring to in my previous statement literally only want the PS5 because they've been hyped up by marketing to think that it's the greatest thing that they have to own. They think this because they're young, immature (much like yourself it would seem) and as someone who is a wiser, older and more mature gamer, I try to educate them that being a fanboy (or as you called it simple preference) can be detrimental to a gamer as it can narrow the experience as well as limit their chance to grow as both a person who enjoyed a multitude of entertainment options and not be limited by "simple preference". This is also coming from a place of when I was younger and didn't know much better, I too used to get caught up in the "one is better than the other" mentality.

This conversation I had with my students predates the arrival of PS Plus Deluxe in Australia. As someone with all three of the online subscriptions purchased, I consider my opinion on value and which one is better, more educated than "random guy on internet who tries for personal attacks to make his point".

At the end of the day… They're literally all just computers with a brand label stuck on them. To get caught up arguing one is better than the other is the kind of moronic **** that I'm against. There's a reason I own every console, because one I can afford too and two, I don't like to miss out on a title if it happens to be exclusive.

You have a preference to which brand is slapped on side of your "console" computer? Good on you mate. The fact that the systems even share most of the same internals makes it even more amusing to me.

              • @Ruddaga: Sorry about the typo *opposed… and also wow, i thought i was on a rant.

Amd just to clarify I was not attacking your career choice or you personally, I just figured as a teacher you would have a broader understanding of differences in people, but that is not worth getting into.

I could easily attack back at most of what you said but it seems to no avail, mostly just a waste of my time, i picked the wrong person to engage in a convesrarion with, presumptions, delusions and an attacking mentality is all you seem to offer for the moment.

                • @mantrex19: I mean… your entire response is littered with typos and it's making my eye twitch…. surely you're trolling at this point.

And every comment you've made so far has yet to make a point except argue semantics and has been a complete waste of time even reading.

But hey, you be you kid.

Keep on trucking with your deluded fan boy mentality. Let me know when you actually have a point to make.

Also the irony of your attacking mentality statement is not lost on me either. But I have a feeling it's lost on you.

You got one thing right in everything you've said, you did pick the wrong person to engage in "convesrarion" with. Better luck next time with that :)

Maybe there's a preschool somewhere that is more up to your level of banter.

Thanks for the smile today though.

                  • @Ruddaga: Whatever delusions feed your ego, not really bothering to respond to everything for you because reading your comments you're clearly not worth engaging with. enjoy your day! 👍🏾

Glorified PS4s are still pretty great.

I've been enjoying my glorified XB1 this past year, and being able to play many / most of my previous gen games at 60+ FPS and SSD load times - I can't go back. And I speak from experience, because I've barely touched my PS4 Pro since I got my XBSX last November; it just cannot compete with the quality of life upgrades in the new generation.

Picked up my PS5 literally yesterday and already a clearly superior experience to the PS4 Pro that I traded.

    • +1

Really? I get that there aren't a lot of killer games but Ratchet and Clank was pretty good, Returnal is amazing, Demon Souls is good (if you like those games) and Astro's Playroom is worth a go, and Gran Turismo 7 is a go if you like car games.

That being said, I was a XBOX person since I left my PS2, so I've got a huge backlog of PS games to play. I dont know if I'd upgrade if I had a PS4.

    • +1

Are you just saying you got a ps5 very recently and have not got around to getting any games yet?

…that or you must be extremely selective! Which then begs the question as to why you even bought a ps5? to each their own I suppose…

      • +1

Many PS4 games do get a performance boost on PS5 so even if you aren’t playing any PS5 titles yet, it’s not completely pointless to upgrade

        • +1

Agreed, in fact it's one of the best reasons to upgrade, that and the decent range of ps5 games out there.

There is never nothing out there unless you are prone to being very selective. Which is why I was curious that if 'dagmar' was that selective why did they decide on buying a ps5 in the first place.

I do get what you are saying though.

    • +1

I remote play my PS5 on my PS4 Pro whenever my wife wants the big tv.

What am I really finding annoying though is that I have to constantly decide for certain games whether I want the PS5 version or the PS4 version with free PS5 upgrade.

      • What’s the downside of the PS4 version if it has a free PS5 upgrade?

        • +2

Nothing really but I'm a collector so my preferences of which version to own don't apply to most people. Basically, I love the PS4 and actively collect PS4 games. But I will get the PS5 version if its PS4 version lacks the free upgrade.

  • JB hi-fi is receiving stock this/next week in physical stores. PS5 Disc bundle with Horizon $844

Yesterday I just walked in their North Sydney store and pre-ordered…

    • +1

My local stores won't even take any names down for a callback

      • I've been to like 5 stores in Melbourne/Eastern Melb and no one wants to take a name or pre-order :|

        • They told me they don't take names, only do pre orders for walk-ins when the store is notified of stock being delivered.

    • +2

I don't get how a digital copy can bump $749 to $844…. surely the game is not worth $95 digital copy

yeah it's a special edition but really not worth paying $95 more

yes yes I know the shortage

    • I walked into JB Wollongong yesterday and got a disc version and stayed up until 4 playing it

    • +1

If it takes you to a waiting room, there's a split second where you can add to cart before it redirects and then you can just go through checkout normally.

      • +4

Or if you add to cart from the home screen it bypasses the queue completely https://www.harveynorman.com.au/

        • Even better. What a silly way to make people wait.

        • This is genius, thank you.

        • similar sort of thing with Big W if you have it in your cart it says there forever, then when its back in stock just check out and you have it ordered in less than 10 seconds. thats how I got mine back in 2021 over a year and half ago.

  • +2

surely at some point every one will have a PS5 and the stock levels will never sale out lol.

  • Are the exclusives really worth nearly $800? Genuinely asking, I'm looking to get a PS5 near the start of next year.

    • +2

I have a feeling with Sony finally realising that revenue coming from PC sales is a good thing, we will likely see less "true exclusives" and more "timed exclusives". The PC market is huge.

      • Having a competent gaming PC is also why I've been holding off getting a PS5. The supply issue has made it far easier to not get FOMO though.

    • God of War Ragnarok may convince you. But that game is also coming out on PS4 if you have one already.

  • Was super hyped on the PS5 and would've bought extra controllers, multiple games, this, that and the other thing…… but not being able to easily purchase one for 2 years has just turned me off. Guess I will just wait till they're $400 on gumtree with a bunch of games. Wake me in another 6 years. Yawn.
