339

Hi it’s my first post, please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

This deal is for HP Envy Inspire 7920e All-in-One Printer.

You pay $143 in store and you will get $40 gift card and sign up to HP Instant Ink for $80 Cashback. HP printer cashback page.
So the final price is $23 for good colour printer and scanner.

Wait, there is more.

You will get free 6 months + 1 extra free month with referral code = 7 months colour prints by using a referral code when you sign up to HP instant ink.

When you sign the subscription, you should sign the $49.99 top plan, it will get 700 colour pages per month and it will be rolled over to next month if you don’t finish it. You can monitor the amounts of pages you have printed on the app and subscription can be cancelled anytime(within 7 months). HP will post the ink cartridges to your door before the ink is finished.

For me, it’s a good deal, by paying $23, you will get 7 months worry-free colour prints of total 4900 pages plus a free scanner after 7 months.

Wow, is buying a printer so complicated these days???

    • +1

      Lol

      • +1

        Only HP

        • That gives me some hope. I'm looking to replace my otherwise functional hp printer that has been infected with their own malware.

        • Neg for the horrible business model by HP,
Plus the vast amount of e waste this will generate.

    • +1

Everything is complicated these days. Try buying a Samsung phone with 3 different trade-in bonuses and conditions to send the device in, etc, etc.

    • that's kind of what ozbargain deals are all about

  • Pretty good for scanner with auto-document feeder.

    What are the reviews like?

    • ADF on home printers are mediocre at best, they jam all the time. Particularly frustrating if you have more than a few pages and need to double check and sometimes redo certain pages.

      • +1

I have an Office jet 8600 series and not once had the adf jam in about 5 years, and I picked it up off the side of the road. It does skew pages slightly, but it's not big deal for me

The real problems with that printer are nunerous, and include that it crashes the printer randomly if you don't use genuine ink, and you need to put in a genuine ink then replace to get it going again. Annoying, especially if you threw out your genuine empties. Also the print quality isn't great, and neither is the scan quality. It's all just passable.

  • +1

Giftcard, wish it were all cashback..

  • Code not valid showing

  • +17

my advice: don't get printers with DRM.

    • How come?

      • +2

You'll need to use the ink supplied by the manufacturer. Which isn't cheap.

        • How can you tell if it's DRM or not?

      • +1

My HP printer refuses to print using 3rd-party cartridges. It also requires me to sign-in for the simple tasks of printing or scanning.

I bet this printer comes with the same restrictions.

  • +1

    Wait, there’s more!

  • Hi the code is <deleted>, you only need code when you sign the hp ink subscription, just put in the promo code, you will see 1 extra month added to your plan. Thanks.

Mod: referral code is not allowed outside of the referral system.

    • Is that a referral code?

    • Where did the code come from?

  • Is that your personal referral code?

  • <deleted> is your personal referral code

    Mod: referral code deleted

Word of warning, the "e" series printers are DRM protected and will not accept third party cartridges or refills. They also need to be connected to the internet so they can 'ping' home to HP servers.

Don't buy e-waste, especially when it's as bad as this

    • +5

Agreed. Pay a little extra for the Brother laser below.

      • +1

        Agreed.

      • +2

I'm interested - but below what exactly?

        • +1

The bargains that you see on the front page get there by being upvoted from the deals page (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals).

This one appeared on that page just above a Brother colour laser printer (which I also agree is a much better deal in the long run if you don't need a scanner).

      • This printer costs stupid money to use after the 6 month period is over… Do you think that's a great idea?

Other printers can still be of use, be of service, running generic inks etc. These will either be put in the rubbish bin (hopefully not), or recycled, after such a short ownership period.

    • Even printers are becoming subscription services now?

      This is insane.

  • +4

I recently tried to install a basic hp wireless printer, I've done dozens in the past with no issues. Despite following the instructions precisely…had no luck. Then I realised the only way to get it on the network was to use the hp app on my phone!

Also, you can't buy compatible toner, you have to use hp's and pay them a subscription per printed page.

  • +7

So HP are hoping you pay $40/month whether or not you use the thing, and even better if you forget about the automatic payment so that you can pay for it for a couple more years after you get rid of the printer. "Printing as a service" aka "Milking the customer as a business model", only to add insult to injury you also get to contribute a payment for the hardware too. After all R&D into how to lock people out of their stuff has to be paid for somehow.

This might make sense for a gaming service or an entertainment service, but artificially making the customer rely on your approval each time they print by getting them to pay for hardware that artificially restricts the ink is reprehensible. Ink is a commodity, it requires no ongoing production or infrastructure once it's in the printer and it does not require online resources except by artificial design.

  • Good deal but I bought a different printer 4 months ago for my office directly at HP with 6 months free ink and $80 Cashback.

  • Watch out for the cartridge costs as it has a tri color cartridge….

I could not find any comparable cartridges….. so looks like you need to buy genuine rip off priced cartridges….

  • +6

Stopped using HP after their apps required me to create an account with them to use the Scanner function, on a printer I PAID for.

    They are just creating landfills.

  • Bought an HP for my newphew's school work for $129 at Harvey Norman, already chewing paper with light use, rubbish quality.

  • +2

Sorry, I don't know the rule of refer code. My point is $23 for 7 months (now it's 6 months) free COLOUR prints, not the printer. Please think how much you spent on the colour ink cartridge and can it last for 7 months. I think most of people still uses b&w brother printer. It will be recycled after 7 months or use it as a scanner. Nobody will buy the hp ink after 7 months.

    • +1

Instead of just thinking about the low financial cost to you, think about the high environmental cost to everyone.

      • +1

I will use it as the scanner along with my b&w brother printer after 7 months. Guys who think it's a rubbish can keep buying 3rd party b&w ink cartridges to save the earth.

        • i stand corrected, may have been thinking of another brand

  • Can I ask printer users then which printers are better under $150-$200 from ink perspective?

  • you will get $40 gift card

You might want to specify that the $40 gift card can only be used to buy things at harvey norman

Besides, this is a DRM protected device and I do not recommend it as a reason. Most people purchasing this for the "deal" will end up throwing it away and the devices will end up as landfill.

  • I wonder what’s the risk or down side to pay $23 for 7 months free and unlimited Colour printing? Considering the tax refund, most ppl will even earn extra. Just stop using it after 7 months - yea I know it’s e- waste 😂

  • $23 for 6 months of full colour flyers printed at will?

    Yeah ok I'll take it.

Shame the whole thing has to go in the trash after 6 months but oh well.

  • +3

If you subscribe to Instant Ink, you must use the cartridges that come with the printer first, and they become part of the subscription.

Whether you use them or not, or subsequently received new subscription cartridges, once subscription ends, all cartridges will be disabled. So you either continue the subscription or need to buy a new set of genuine cartridges. Just so you know.

Also, if you do subscribe, regardless of plan, you will get 700 pages per month during the trial, so there's no need to signup to the top tier plan.

This is what the dashboard shows.

  • Don't bother with HP printers they are the bane of the printer world. also brothers are following suit with the microtrasactional crap so double check. if you have alot of ink and you cancel your subscription on a newer HP model they basically switch off your printer so you can't print. even though you have said ink available

  • -3

HP and Harvey Norman post on Ozbargain. What were you thinking OP?!
    Ah, first post, makes sense.

  • Let me get my head around this.
$23 + $40 worthless Harvey Norman gift card means our out of pocket expense is only $63.
For that, we get 700 pages worth colour prints per month for 7 months.
Then you can cancel the subscription and keep the scanner as long as you like.. For me, this looks like a great deal (if you have 700 pages to print per month that is). Anything I'm missing here? Don't get the criticism this deal gets.

    • +2

Think the criticisim is more towards HP's nutso business model

  • +1

You can get 6 reams of a4 paper from HN by using $40 gift card to cover your 7 months printing.

  • -1

    Say no to Hardly Normal.

  • Am I the only one who has constant problems with HP printers disconnecting from the network. So far best results I get is to uninstall any HP drivers set you printer to a static IP address then reinstall your drivers for best results. for something so simple HP can be a nightmare

  • 8 downvotes … Nah, not buying.

  • How do I get a referral code for instant ink when I can't ask for one here ("referral solicitation") and there is no referral system?

  • Bought one. I needed a printer because my previous inkjet's heads are clogged. $23 was too good to miss.

Had huge problems with the setup software. After hours of trying to get the software to see it on the LAN, unsuccessfully, I gave up trying, and put it back in its box and chucked them in the rubbish. Had second thoughts a couple of days later, got it back out of the rubbish, tried again coming from a different direction - setting it up on USB - and got it working, and then and only then it saw another one of itself on the wifi off the router and let me choose it. Setup software ought to work a lot better than this.

Signed up to instant ink. ONLY GOT 2 MONTHS TRIAL!!!!

Signed up to the double rebate. GOT TOLD I WAS ONLY GOING TO GET $40 !!!!

HP really is a pain in the you know what.

    • Their web sites asked the questions, I answered them. But apparently somehow it was my fault that I was only going to be credited with $40 rebate not $80.

And I should have noted that the card in the box promising a 6 month instant ink trial referred IN ONE PLACE to it being a "HP+" printer and signed up to their HP+ scheme. I should have realised that the instant ink trial was only if I did. So apparently its my fault I'm not going to get the 6 month free trial of instant ink.

What a complete weasel of a company. It makes promises, then weasels out of them.

      Don't buy anything from them.

  • I think you didn't follow the instruction. Just download the hp smart app and easy to connect and sign up hp +, don't need laptop at all.

  • Now I understand why they are giving double cashback, 6-7 months free instant ink and a Harvey Norman gift card. I have had many issues with this printer after using it for 48 hours. I keep getting a photo paper tray error and its frustrating because it's not clear what fixes it but jiggling it around. It's been a waste of time and I would not recommend this printer to anyone.
