    Don't buy inkjets!

    Why not?

    • +9

Because they don't have lasers and lasers are cool, d'oh.

    • +15

I'm a photocopier technician, inkjets have specific uses and are great for what they do; printing photos often.

But for someones home printer they do a terrible job, inkjets need to be used quite constantly and not printing for prolonged periods can cause the ink to dry out and ruin parts of the machine.

      • I print daily… Probably 10-20 pages most of the times. Sometimes more.

        • +37

u dont need to print every good deal posted on ozb….

        • +6

Do you use up your black cartridge more because of all the bold?

          • @D3m3ntia: I use a composite black.

      • how is the photo quality from this?

      • -1

Can vouch. My tubes are clogged. Cue dirty replies…

      • Did not expect jv to show up and defend inkjets of all things.

      • "I'm a photocopier technician"

Ha, nice, did that for 20 years. Just caught the tail end of the wet ink machines and the front end of the networked ones. :)

      • In some use cases, tank inkjets can be cheaper than lasers too.

Personally, I’m looking for a decent A3 laser MFC with duplexer, but most are either yuuuge, heavy or expensive to run.

        • A3 is much more expensive than A4. OKI MC853dn Colour Laser A3 Multifunction Printer for $1,895

    • +1

You need to tone down your questions.

  • The toners worth more than the printer.

  • I bought this printer during lockdown , good quality and yes it's much better than inkjets as the cartridge last much longer

    • -3

yes it's much better than inkjets as the cartridge last much longer

my inks last about 2000 pages…

How good is the Kyocera with printing photos on photopaper ?

      • +2

        2000 pages in theory.

you forgot to factor in the 'head cleaning' time ink jet does

        lasers don't have this problem.

it's 2022, can't believe you being on ozb since 2009 and not aware the pros and cons of inkjet vs laser printers.

        • 2000 pages in theory.

I'm finding I'm getting about 2,500 over 2 years per bottle of ink. Original Epson Bottles cost $17.

          • @jv: good on you.

i'm getting 5000+ pages on a 4000 page toner on my mono laser. this same toner is older than my youngest 5 year old and i'm still on it.
printer gets fired up to print 1 page, turned off, then maybe an hour or 2 later, another page.

you just can't do that sort of cycles with ink. you are not acknowledging the 'cleaning head with more ink' cycle as well.

cost benefit has been done to death on printers.

            • @slowmo:

i'm getting 5000+ pages on a 4000 page toner on my mono laser.

How many colour photos on photo paper do you get in that?

you just can't do that sort of cycles with ink.

I also have a cheap B&W brother laser that runs on nothing with aftermarket inks for bulk b&w prints that will just go in the bin.
80% of the time, i end up using the Ecotank though

              • @jv: acknowlege the 'cleaning head with more ink' cycle

              • @jv: Ecotank makes sense over the long run in terms of running cost. But it is just so gawd damn slow…

                • @KaTst3R:

But it is just so gawd damn slow…

10 ppm is good enough for me..

        • Hope there's a great deal on popcorn… Gunna Need some !

    • How is the print quality?

  • +2

$179 using code from this deal

    • Yeah, saw the code after posting lol good thing I had a $15 code to use

  • +5

Bought this for $130 previous devicedeal deal. Great printer! Buy the larger 2600 black and 2200 colour toners from ebay for about $25each or 4 for $80ish.

  • Can anyone recommend a printer for home office with scanner? Also this has a wifi logo on the actual printer. Seems odd it doesn't offer wifi lol

    • Also this has a wifi logo on the actual printer. Seems odd it doesn't offer wifi lol

Lol yeah they've used the wrong image, it shows the model number on the printer which is the wrong one

    • P5021cdw is the model with wifi.
I bought the cdn (this one) because my printer does not move around so I'd always be looking to use ethernet anyway.

  • How good are photos prints?

    • Not the best - can't use photo paper in it, if that's what you expect.

      • Thanks. If it prints coloured text and images that’s fine.

  • +1

Great printer especially for the price, I picked one up in the other deal.

  • Shows as $174 for me with a $15 off code..

    • I had that code too, from a June purchase

      • Oh, so not for everyone! do you know the T&C to use this code if I wanted to buy something else. I tried to buy another item using the same code, but did not accept it.

        • Check your my ebay page. I think it had a minimum spend

  • +3

I've owned this printer for about 2 years (maybe 3? Been a while, can't remember exactly when I got it). Rock solid, no issues, would recommend.

  • +1

These printers bring back horrible memories of being a pharmacist 😂😂

    • You prefer being a pharmacist or homeless? :D

      • +1

        Homeless 😂

        • haha

I didn't think that being a pharmacist was that bad… but now I know

    • All those jammed foil prints - the Kyoceras always run too hot 😂

  • +2

Note that is doesn't have wifi, but has ethernet

nor did one of my old Brother MFC DN8800 i think

I just simply connected to my internet router via ethernet, and all of my devices could then access the printer via WIFI (like they could communicate through my standard internet modem/router now)

    • Yep, but this was the last of the discounted stock I could find online without ridiculous freight charges

      Seems it's discontinued/end of line

      • +1

yeh looks like it… hopefully consumables have 5years+ left

        • +2

Considering it is a Kyocera you will be using the damn thing long after parts have been discontinued.

Having used their machines in the past can vouch for their quality.

  • +1

Got this last time, big unit and quite heavy

    • Agreed. It's super heavy and big. Thought it was from the 90s

    • Feel free to link to another that is appreciably smaller.
