That’s a shame, silver looks way nicer

    • +11

      Nah

    • +1

Yeah I love it. But I can't be plonking 2grand on a body 'just because'.

      • +3

        U can if u believe u can

        • +1

I…… Spent 4grand on an A7iv at release. I truly cannot.

          • @Sxio: relatable :(

            but very happy

            • @contro3ler: Same. But I do love the look of silver cameras. If it was an option with the A7iv I would've taken it in a heartbeat.

  • +1

eBay Plus PAUG12 takes it down to $1917.39.

    • Is this the lowest price on record (or close to it)?

      • +2

Probably close to it off the top of my head. The best one-time deal was this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/623123

        • +1

Still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on this. Had it in cart, ready to go - but couldn't justify the cost at the time.

    • +7

      Yeah wright, right, write, rite

      • +1

        1+

    • +2

That really depends on how you share and view your photos

      • -2

Chromecast streams my pics to my 4K telly via Google Photos. Or I look at them on my XPS or S22 Ultra. The look really good to my eye.

        • +19

It's OK to have low standards. No one's judging you.

          • +1

@plmko: Let me know how you view yours. I need to raise my standards.

            • -2

@[Deactivated]: You need to learn what sensor sizes mean, my friend.

              • +3

@Kiran90: You need to be less patronising if you want to be my friend

            • +8

@[Deactivated]: It’s not which device you view the photos, it’s how your eyes feel happy with them. It’s good you are happy with phone camera and it’s not a problem. It’s a blessing actually. Enjoy it.

For some of us, like myself, I can see the high ISO on photos that created noise or massive suppression of noise using digital processing. Some photos are ok and some are just plain sore to my eyes. That’s where full frame sensor comes in. Night photography become a lot more enjoyable and day time photo with heaps better HDR photos.

And I love to see real bokeh on a full frame camera, portrait mode on both iPhone 13 Pro and S22 aren’t perfect, I can see hair being blurred out and that’s not nice.

        • +2

If you're happy, that's all that matters. My note 10 is what led me back to photography. The photos on it looked so nice!

    • Mobile cameras don't cut it for landscape photography (little color depth, especially obvious with sunsets).

For mugshots and food photography, they're adequate.

    • -3

Lol. An dedicated camera with a skilled photographer can take noticeably better photos than a phone.

Phone cameras do a lot of post processing to generate their images and often involve stacking multiple exposures.

If you can't tell the difference, good for you. Just move on, keep living your life with your high end smartphone and Heymix charger.

  • Great price for a full frame camera (one of best sensors out there - same sensor as A7iii with a crazy dynamic range as close as the low light beast A7s).
I absolutely hate A7C shutter sound though.. It may not mean much for many of you though.

    • I absolutely hate A7C shutter sound though.. It may not mean much for many of you though.

      Electronic shutter :)

    • In contrary, I like the shutter sound of A7C. It is not as loud as A7iii, but still really solid sound.
I agree with the sensor is very good for this price. Get A7C while you can, as these could be the last batch and Sony has ceased new orders of A7C in late 2021.

      • Less shutter sound would also mean shutter module probably would last longer. Still not my cup of tea..😊

  • +4

The best deal was still the JB hifi one which came with a lens, im so bummed I missed out on that one

  • I need the A7 III for photography. Is this a viable alternative?

    • +5

Up to you. 2 SD card slots, better EVF and more custom buttons on the A7 III. The A7C had better battery life, flip out screen and no 4K video recording limit.

      • -1

So in other words the a7iii is the better one ?

      • The A7C is also a lot lighter and smaller.

    • +4

A7III is better for photography, better ergonomics, backup recording, better evf etc. A7C is better for video, improved AF, updated colour science, less hdmi limitations etc.

      • Buy the A7C and I’ll trade you my a7iii

    • +1

A7C shutter speed is only 1/4000 and A7III is 1/8000. If you do a lot of day time under the sun photography with wide opened aperture then A7 III would be better.

  • Camera bodies tend to depreciate much faster in price than lenses. I’d wait for A7C MK II to be announced first before I’d buy one of these.

    • A7C not coming in 2022 apparently. Although sony alpha rumors could sooner predict when I'm going to take a shit than when a new camera comes out.

    • +5

A7iii has held resale insanely well

    • If you look at Sony’s replacement cycle for A7 series, you are not going to get A7C MK2 any time soon. May be couple of years.

Might as well get the A7 Mark 4. 😁

    • +2

"Camera bodies tend to depreciate much faster in price than lenses"

New lenses are coming up so regularly that they are not immune to this any more. At least that's been my experience selling of my 55F1.8 and Batis 25.

      • +1

I will never sell my CZ 55f1.8. What did you replace it with?

        • I could never like the focal length and so hardly ever used it. Sold it despite it being the sharpest lens in my drawer.

Also sold it because I can always rebuy it for cheap on the used market.

      • +2

Here are some prices I can find for MSRP vs recent listings for First hand Body only prices of some of Sony’s Lineup.
        Sony A7IV (3999) - (3030)
        Sony A7S III (5999) - (3982)
        Sony A7III (3099) - (2158)
        Sony A7C (3299)- (1960)
        Sony A7II (1999) - (1279)
There’s many odd expectations many photographer hobbyists have about how cameras retain values, particularly those who’ve recently joined as a result of covid. Many manufacturers faced severe supply shortages and a spike in demand due to home isolation resulted in a price increase in secondary markets. (Think how Crypto affected the price of GPUs)
Due limitations of how Lens manufacturing works, improvements in Lens technology have been minor compared to the rapid changes experienced by Camera bodies which results in them depreciating in value much slower than bodies. Look at historical prices prior to 2020, do your own research.
The secondary markets have been flooded by people buying a prosumer model, barely using it and having a low shutter count only for it to depreciate crazily within 6 years.

        • +1

Where can you find a a7 iv for 3030 now?

          • @tntman: Was available last month from digidirect eBay on the 15th. You can sort by post date to see recent listings!

        • Whilst generally speaking camera bodies improve faster than lenses will, but if you compare any of the recent GM lenses to their MK1 variants or their competitors they have seen dramatic increases in IQ and size/weight reduction. For example the updated 24-70, 70-200, 35mm GM compared to the old Zeiss 35mm, Sony 14mm 1.8 vs Sigma 14mm etc, there is no contest. And that is only after a few short years of development compared to other systems like Canon L lenses which have been around for decades.

          • @Dubious speculation: This is both true and untrue, it's true that lenses have developed rapidly over the past few years, but that's led mostly by (i) transition to mirrorless meaning lots of new lenses being released in a short amount of time, and (ii) Sony's picking up pace with learning about lens design and needing to compete with latest releases by other manufacturers, particularly Canon RF lenses.

However, even in cases where newer versions of lenses have been released, the older versions have held onto value well (relative to bodies), and new versions of lenses don't simply just obsolete the old versions immediately. Case-in-point, the new Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM is a fantastic lens, however, I'm still perfectly happy with my Sony Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Planar, and changing over to the new GM lens doesn't fundamentally change the shooting envelope in any meaningful way.

However, upgrading bodies has always significantly changed the shooting envelope. The A7II / A7RII could hardly track moving objects, whereas the A7III does it fantastically, especially with the eye-AF for portraits. Basically my hunch is that with every new release, it basically obsoletes older models, however, this is probably getting less true (e.g. the A7IV offers less over the A7III than I would have hoped).

            • @p1 ama: Agreed, it depends what lens you're comparing. Some lenses you will see dramatic useability improvements in handling and AF, the difference in 'shooting envelope' between the 1.2 GM and the Zeiss 50 1.4 may not have improved your experience in a dramatic way (you didn't mention if you've actually used the 1.2 GM, which makes it hard to justify your example), but compare the perfomance and the value held between the Zeiss 35mm 1.4 and the GM 35mm 1.4 there is no contest.

It's also not logical to compare lens brands as a whole. RF vs E mount in general there are too many variables to consider and it will depend on the priorities of the photographer. For example the RF 50mm 1.2 vs GM 50mm 1.2 that will come down entirely to personal preference, I quite like the way the RF 1.2 flares and overal it's fair to say it has more 'character', but personally I value the improvements in size, weight, and vignetting of the Sony 50 1.2 GM.

In short the most logical conclusion is to compare each potential lens/camera purchase directly (via reviews/sample photos etc) and base your purchasing decision on your own needs and priorities (obviously).

  • +1

I upgraded from Canon 600D after using it for 10 years.

Absolutely love this camera because of its size and as a pancake prime user, it's very easy to bring it around, takes stunning pictures (not a professional photographer though). It's very easy to take on trips, my wife likes using it as well because it's not too big.

Note that due to chip shortages, Sony will not be producing these series for the time being

  • I'd be keen on an a7c if it had a better evf and 1/8000 shutter speed. I'm a bit constrained because I have two f/1.4 lenses and I like to shoot wide open.

    • That seems like a very niche necessity, do you mind if I ask what you shoot that can't be done at 1/4000 or 1/8000 electronic? If that's your main hurdle, the a7 IV is probably better suited for you.

    • The EVF I can relate. I don't see why you want to pair big F1.4 lenses on the small A7C though. It defeats the purpose of the small form factor.

      • @jenna12 - yes, definitely. it's pretty rare that I am at 1/5000 and f/1.4. It has happened but it's not often.

@ddhar - I have a few manual lenses and so I am keen on a better evf for that. I also don't have the best eyesight these days.

  • +1

this is a good price, A73 was on a similar price before
A7c and A73 are basically the same cameras, but A73 is more orientated to pro given it's much better EVF and 2 SD slots, but if you are a hobbyist, A7c will do you just fine given its slight edge of auto focus in video with touch to track which A73 doesn't have (a proper one)

  • This or Fuji xt3,4 or xs10? Full frame isn't important for me.

    • All great cameras that offer somewhat different shooting experiences and features. Trying them out in person at your local store is always a good idea.

I'd also recommend thinking about lens choice — when bodies are all so capable, there's a lot to be said for building a system around the lenses that best suit your usecase.

    • Just to make it easy, it takes Fuji X-H2S to compete with Full Frame, but to say that X-T4 offers plenty of different experiences. Photography should suit your style, great body won't make you a better photographer.

    • +1

If u need super fast af n clean low light noise then this. If u want superb colour profile then Fuji. I have A7C and xpro2, I use my xpro2 all the time now. I spent too much time post processing with my A7c. Only use it occasionally for fast moving objects.

      • I would go with Fuji then. Fuji prices are too high rn. T4 was around $1600 last December.
Going for $2200 these days. Might settle for an X-Pro1 to get started until prices are back to normal.
        Appreciate your comment.

        • I may get an x-s10 once they have stock again. Missing the traditional control but gaining ibis. Would not sell my xpro2 tho. She's a keeper, wish af can be quicker esp low light

          • @Bargain-er: Do you think if are we going to have a deal like this anytime soon?
Because at the moment I can't justify an S10 for the price of XT4.
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/673691

            • +1

@Mi2: Once we have stock, probably yes. Heard it will be in September. If ur in a hurry, xt3 or xpro2 is the way to go for now.

    • +1

It's really about personal preference. No choice is wrong and at least for size, weight and cost of the system all up, I think Fuji is a great choice.

Also, fuji jpg images are quite nice and pleasing with their various colour profiles.

I've taken some informal pics for relatives at their birthdays and I don't need to edit the fuji images at all, but I have always had to edit the sony images because the sony a7iii has a very ordinary jpg engine. The A7c has improved on the colours of the a7iii, but I still think fuji is a winner on colour.

Having said all of that, I much prefer the look from my full frame setup after some light editing.

  • I am a Sony convert. Shot Nikon for 18 years, I miss it but wow Sony mirrorless is something else!!! Great lenses too.

  • +3

OOS now. They updated the Quantity today. Might have realised the price error when someone mixed up the 1 and 7, considering the going prices of other stores…

  • +4

Hi, I jumped on one of these from the Ryda website (not eBay) and just received an email saying they were cancelling my order as it was a price error. Anyone else receive this??
