Supatool 105-Piece Tool Bag Kit $39.95 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Bunnings

173

I walked into Bunnings to browse their specials and bought this kit to keep in the boot of the car.

I consider this to be a "niche" use-case, so hear me out.

To be honest, the quality of these tools is kind of embarrassing. As someone who often frequents the Knipex, Leatherman deals on here, I got a real chuckle when I opened the kit and saw some of the tools (it even has the obligatory cable ties to bring the tool count up). The pliers have a terrible feel/action opening and closing them, the driver handle is a cheap platic-y affair. The tools don't even fit in the little inner pouches as shown in the picture in the box. I'm not doing a great job selling this deal…. No wonder I don't work in marketing.

HOWEVER, if you are looking for a cheap, temporary kit to throw in the boot until you get around to cobbling together a decent kit, i.e. as a gap-filler for the time-being, then I guess this would work. That is the reason I got it, and why I called it a "niche" use-case. Once you are done getting yourself a proper tool kit, with some high quality tools, you can hand this down to your son or grandson as a slight upgrade to their toy tool set.

Can you get an equivalent or better set from the $2 shop or Aldi for less money? Probably. Is buying this a convenient way to fill the need of having some tools in your car right now? For me, the answer was yes.

Bunnings are targetting this for "the home". However, I don't think it's a great fit for the home as you'd probably want a better set to keep in the garage. This one did fit neatly in the little side compartment in the side of my car boot though.

Stock levels seemed to be ample at the Bunnings I went to.

There are several alternatives from SCA that are potentially better/cheaper (but I happened to be in Bunnings and it was an impulse buy, and Bunnings is more convenient to get to for me):

  • No deal.
    Have to be over 18. It's X-rated.

    What’s the normal price?

Edit wow there’s sellers trying to push this for nearly $70 JFC lmao

    • Good question! How do you find out?

Their website doesn't seem to indicate this, but it was on the front aisle, marked as "Special".

Doing a Google search yielded this which seemed way overpriced at $59:

      https://www.vektools.com.au/supatool-toolbag-kit-105-piece-1…

And this ebay post which must be a joke price at $94.95:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/274439251860

Maybe the Wayback Machine? Or someone could ask at the store?

      • Hmm, Wayback Machine has this at $39.95 on 4 Aug 2020:

        https://web.archive.org/web/20210412034831/https://www.bunni…

Maybe this isn't a deal at all, but a case of Bunnings pushing out their product.

          Normal price is 39.95 lmao

          • @Lachie010: So I guess "I've been had" by the product placement on the aisle with the large sign and the price on it. Good job. I should have looked better and not let my mind take a shortcut matching a pattern.

            • @johnwinds: pretty much, i don't work for them anymore but it's always been 39.95

              • @Lachie010: Maybe I should take the deal down then. What's the right thing to do in this situation?

                • @johnwinds: Yeah, I would, I only negged because of normal price. Could be a bargain to some people though. idk up to you.

                  • @Lachie010: How do you even take a deal down on Ozbargain?

I can only see options under Report such as Expired, Sold Out etc.

                • @johnwinds: Just leave it. In the current era an available rrp item is considered a bargain by the mindless consumers. Although it normally applies to more desirable items…

Got to love it when they add 12 x Plastic Cable Ties as tool pieces

    • only 12?

50 take it or leave it. heh

Also note the hex keys, inches included for the US in our lives.

Thanks op, but I'm quite sad I got an alert notification for knipex and found this :'(

    • +5

Sorry! I just realised I must have triggered some Knipex and Leatherman alerts for people.

      That was not the intention!

      • Came here for knipex, left disappointed.🙂

    • In the various torture tests people have done, Knipex has been unimpressive. There are tool brands out there much cheaper while performing better.

I was told there'd be a Leatherman here.

      Sorry!

There is a relatively decent deal on the Leatherman Skeletool on Catch at $111.75 if you have OnePass:

      https://www.catch.com.au/product/leatherman-skeletool-coyote…

The lowest price on 3 camels for the black handled version was $111.48 in 2020. Current price on Amazon for the bright green handled version is $159.59. The number of tools you get in the Skeletools is kind of limited.

But there is also a deal on the Leatherman Wingman at $74.25 with OnePass:

      https://www.catch.com.au/product/leatherman-wingman-multitoo…

Current price on Amazon is $149.95 with 3 camels having it at $60.02 in 2020, and a couple of old Ozbargain deals at $56.40 in 2017 and $53.20 also in 2017.

  • I've had a head snap off of a hammer that looked exactly like that. Almost hit me in the face.

Not worth the heartache when you round a bolt due to shitty tools.

Skip this entirely and buy a proper set please. not a deal as these are typical prices.

  • This is Bunnings regular price for this item, not a bargain. The quality of these tools are abysmal. The ratchet gears in particular seem to be made of soft cheese. The sockets are 1 step up from the ratchet but are the poorest quality I have ever used. Counting consumables (ie cable ties) as tools to increase the tool count should be outlawed along with 16 can "cases" or "slabs". 1 big plus is that the material the screwdrivers are made of means that you'll never round another screw head again, as the screwdriver will round first.

I'm of the opinion that you should buy the best tools you can afford, but, if this is it save some more - you may as well throw your 2 lobsters out the window on the way to pick this up.

  • Bought same tool kit without brand in Kmart about 8 years ago for $25. Some of them still going strong!
