If we made a new Final Destination movie, I guarantee there will be an IT guy fixing some old ladies internet and the guy gets impaled 27 times on these things.

Bahahahaha. I had low expectations for this message as I saw the beginning but was thoroughly entertained by the antenna impalement fatality.

      Where is the deal?

    • +1

Still haven't seen any real world tests/write ups to show affects of this, if any at all.

      • I have one. 2.4ghz throughput is weak. 5ghz is good. Not very savvy. Get 250 megabits down pretty easily from upstairs.

    • This. Why buy an overseas router?

    • I bought one a week ago (and an AU plug adapter) and thought the signal was weaker compared to my old linksys router.

My other Asus AX53U seems to have stronger signal than this router.

Is this because of "blocked bands" you are talking about?

No big deal though I'm happy with my aimesh setup and range.

Anyone know if flashing with merlin firmware enables the blocked bands?

Edit: for any others who were curious I pulled my finger out and did my own research: it does not.

  • Does each antenna really serves a good purpose or just the more the merrier? I am still using old Asus RT-N56u. It has 'zero' pointy antenna.

Cut them open. Just plastic sticks on all but two

      • I can't find any info about the antennas of this router on net… you may be right lol

  • Hijacking to ask, any good deals or recommendations for a router that's available atm in store? Need one asap that is decent but doesn't have to be the best. TIA

    • You can make a DIY router.

  • I just looked up the router because the amazon page said nothing useful about it.

This Router is pretty basic. Fair purchase if you're coming from your ISP's router, not much of an upgrade if you're coming from a router made a few years earlier.

Its CPU is 1.5GHz tri-core (about 1.5-1.8G dual core for older, 1.8-2.1GH quad-core for high-end)
Its RAM is 512MB (256 for older stuff, 1G for higher-end routers)

No features stand out in this model besides the dedicated gaming port. This isn't a big deal because you can activate gaming mode on wireless devices anyway.

    • The antennas are a stand out

  • This was a much better deal.

  • BTW, I got one of these (AU model) and thought I got another dud (random reboots) and it turns out the provided power supply wasn't up to the task, I got one with an extra .5 amps and now it no longer randomly reboots
I have seen other posts saying similar with a number of Asus routers
