  • Been very tempted in getting this. A decent mower is about $500, would this be a good alternative to someone who hates mowing?

setup can be a bit finicky, guide wire needs a fair amount of adjustment on my moebot to stop it getting stuck in corners, but it was definitely a worth while investment in my eyes, keep an eye on any heavy slopes in your lawn as there is a maximum gradient these bots can do.

do you hate mowing as much as you love chicken dinners?

    • -1

Just pay a mowing dude … cheaper

  • +2

Would love a robot lawnmower but have no faith in the ability of current models to handle anything that's not already a near-perfect lawn. The clearance on these is tiny.

    • +4

Yeah but they're made for maintaining. Just like the robot vacuums where you start with a clean floor and the robot keeps it that way by vacuuming a few times a week.

They're not for dragging out every few months to hack down a jungle.

  • I was thinking this then got reminded it would take min 3 years to pay for it self vs getting someone to mow the lawn. I would assume after 3 years it will need a service or parts or even battery so might never be cheaper than getting someone to mow it for you (obviously depends on how big and how often you want it mowed but around here its $60-80 4-5 times a year) ohh and you still need to do edges and other bits it cant do which the person you get to do it will do included in the price .

Does your grass not grow? How high does it get with 3 months between each mow?

    • +7

      4-5 times a year?

      During summer?

My lawn looks a mess if I take more than a weekend off during that time.

      • Obviously summer is more than winter but over all i can get away with 4-5 a year. Gets long in summer but then its mowed, not every week as i dont care if its a bit long or looks a bit rough for a few weeks.

I got one of these for my dad after he had a stroke. 450m2 U shaped yard with some slopes (no idea on degrees) took about 5 hours of set up and then some fine tuning over the next week or so.

It does a great job set as 2 hours 5 days a week (could possibly drop down to 3 days). You will need to do the edges because of the boundary wire it can't get right to the fence. Quick 10min walk around the house and yard with the whipper snipper every few weeks and problem solved.

    • My dad laid some large format pavers down around the edge of his yard to avoid using the whipper snipper. But I guess it depends on the type of grass you have.

I purchased this mower for slightly more on Prime day. I have been very happy with it and my lawn looks great. Always mown, so looks like the gardener was just there that day, every day. Some fiddling to set up but once done, just works. As others have noted, you will need to snipper your edges occasionally.

  • Got one. Thanks op
