    Oh man
Hope/wish Amazon matches this so can use up some vouchers

Does amazon regularly price match Mwave/aussie retailers? I have a big chunk of gift card credit to use if they do.

10 gigs per dollar, take that as you will

10 gigs per dollar, take that as you will

I take it as $0.10 per GB

  • Dont think I have seen a lower price on this particular model/capacity.

    250GB, 100 TBW
    500GB, 180 TBW
    1TB, 360 TBW
    2TB, 700 TBW
    4TB, 1000 TBW

I would wager that they changed to QLC when going up to 4TB, otherwise the TBW should be close to double of 700.

      Doesn't seem like it… here's what I found:
      src 1, src 2, src 3

Either way I sure hope not as the MX500 is one of my favourites

Edit: b&h listing it as having TLC so I think it's pretty reliable: B&H Photo

      • +3

Crucial has a history of changing from TLC to QLC after the initial batch.

        Hence the lower advertised TBW

        • damn, that's really bad

To put any worries to rest in case anyone bought it and is unsure, I emailed crucial support and got this:

          Greetings from Crucial.

We would like to let you know that we use TLC type of NAND in our MX500 Series of SSD

If you have further questions, I welcome your reply. You can also visit our Contact page for other ways to reach us.

So hopefully we can take their word for it…

          • @BarneyKB:

We would like to let you know that we use TLC type of NAND in our MX500 Series of SSD

Is that in every drive of every capacity of the entire series? Or just a general rule guideline?

            • +2

@Chandler: I specifically asked about the 4TB drive but their response seems to be relevant to the whole series.

              • +1

@BarneyKB: Yeah ok. I'm personally still sus on the wording - easy to worm out of using TLC if they want. If they'd said "We would like to let you know that we use only TLC type of NAND in our MX500 Series of SSD", then I'd say case closed it's TLC. But they didn't quite say that…

                • @Chandler: I did ask if it uses TLC or QLC but yeah the wording is sus

                • @Chandler: Media outlets and tech enthusiasts would have picked up on it by now if they had swapped components in their MX500 lineup.
The Crucial P2 was quickly discovered after the they did the old switcharoo

            • @Chandler: Guideline?

              Tagline, more like.

    • +3

One review suggests it's just using higher layer count TLC, but YMMV.

    • +2

I would wager that they changed to QLC when going up to 4TB, otherwise the TBW should be close to double of 700.

      Putting that data another way:

Capacity (GB) TBW (TB) # full writes
      250 100 400
      500 180 360
      1000 380 380
      2000 700 350
      4000 1000 250
  • it used to 449 not 499 but yeah good deal

  • Is this good enough for video encoding?

  • This is an awesome deal, currently the best value SSD >= 4tb, and that includes stuff like the QVO etc.

  • Are these MX500 ssds pretty good for a OS/Gaming drive? I'm giving my brother my old pc but I don't have a big enough ssd for fortnite/cod/apex games. No m.2 slot on the old mobo.

  • No more in stock :(

  • Well that was quick

  • good price, can buy 10% discounted Mwave gift card to save even more
