Note there's not a huge gain to this watch unless you're in the sun for half the day or want the watch face features.
Go non solar, screen is cleaner and lasts 20-odd days with regular smartwatch and indoor activity use.
I have a solar and my wife's Instinct 1 non solar outdoes the battery - even when I'm in the sun - and it takes very little time to plug it in and charge (2 mins on the charger probably beats 10hrs in the sun tbh)
When I worked in the sun daily I found my battery to last a couple months, granted it was direct sunlight for 6-8 hours 5 days a week. I think of it as more an emergency feature if I get lost hiking, along with the GPS and compass built in.
These are great for those that dont want to charge their watch on a daily basis. The solar makes a significant difference if you spend the majority of your time outside, otherwise better off saving and getting the non solar version(I think I saw it for 350 recently). Smart functionality is quite basic though, but that works for me, I just need to know when my phone rings, I dont need to answer it with my watch or send a text.
The non solar version was $190 at jb Hi-Fi not a long time ago with perks.
Jeeze I would've skipped solar altogether for that price!
I thought the price was an indicator that it drops in general but apparently just a good deal they made with Garmin. They must have had 1000s of them…
What’s the difference between instinct 1 solar and instinct 2? Is it worth to pay more for the newer version? I still wait for the instinct Solar 1 for the price drop. Unfortunately missed the UK deal for $245 a while ago. I nearly bought the non solar version for $190 via jb perks but decided against it. I am an emergency service worker and sometimes out for day searching and rescuing and don’t want to charge the watch.
If you just use it as a smart watch, you may never have to charge with the instinct 2. Lots of other differences, check youtube…
