  • I'm after a new washing machine, budget around $1.5k, has anyone got any recommendations?

      Bosch - made in Germany

      • +4

Love our 9kg Bosch washing machine. Not so much the matching heat pump dryer, but that might because we usually line dry and only ever use the dryer for quick.

        • +1

You don’t love it because you don’t use it or because when you do it doesn’t meet expectations?

          • @itsme56: Heat pump does not work like the F&P vented dryer we are used to. Takes a long time and depending on what is being dried, may not actually dry and have to put on timed setting. Bosch only rotates one way, so clothes get more knotted.
We are not heavy dryer users though so willing to admit to possible user error and maybe heat pump not best for our use case.
The Bosch washing machine otoh, is the best washing machine we have ever had.

      • +5

Used to work at an electrical retailer.. This, absolutely. The German made Bosch units (note the distinction; their cheaper models are made elsewhere) are a far better made product with much lower failure rates than similarly priced models from Samsung and LG.

        Good Better Bosch

      Bosch!

Also looking and curious, what would be the real difference between a $500 and $1500 washing machine except for size and water/elec efficiency?

      • +7

        Main difference - $1K.

        • +1

Cant tell if you are being serious or not but from what i can tell this does seem to be the only real difference

      • +1

        Noise, speed, features, and vibrations.

        • -1

Hadn't really considered noise but your right that is important to me. Any example of some features that only the higher end models have?

        • I agree on most of those points, but ironically I think “features” aren’t always exclusive to the more expensive washing machines. Eg. even the cheap Samsungs have wifi and “steam assist” whereas the Bosch at double the price doesn’t.
How useful these “features” are on the other hand, I’m not sure.
What I’d be interested to know is if the quality of wash and gentleness on the clothes is very different between machines. There’s no way that a regular consumer could test this, so it’s so difficult.
The other thing is durability, and the German made Bosch machines seem to be top out of the more affordable machines. Miele are the best but also much more expensive.

          • +1

@pointblank: That's why groups such as CHOICE can be important to consumers.

            • @Chandler: Certainly agree. The only things I notice are that for certain items their reviews are of dated models which is understandable.
They also seem to weigh "ease of use" equally to other criteria for certain items which I don't necessarily agree with, but I suppose you can filter accordingly.

              • @pointblank: Yes, sometimes Choice does go off on a. mission tangent that can be quasi political in nature. I subscribe, but always take their ratings with a grain of salt. Fortunately you can adjust their priorities down the side to be closer to your own preferences.

      • I've been very happy with our $600 10kg Hisense but it's the first front loader I've had so I have no basis for comparison.

      • Quality of wash, noise, vibrations, smarter design that means less mould, easier to use etc.

Some extra features in particular are pretty sweet - The Bosch I bought does auto detergent dispensing based on load dirtiness, it ends up using less than half the detergent I was with the previous machine

But the real biggest difference is longevity - I attempted to get a 4 year old mid range Samsung washer repaired after it stopped turning on, the bloke pulled it apart and explained it was a waste of time and to just buy another disposable cheapy or buy an expensive German made one and not expect to replace it for 20 years. After remembering my parent's trusty Miele is still working great after 20 years I bought a German Bosch and it hasn't missed a beat (so far).

Get Beko. 5 years warranty and excellent value for money.

      • After tossing between the $650 Beko and $900 Bosch, finally went ahead with Beko. They both are low end of their brand range but from the reviews it appeared Beko did score a tad hetter. (both the units had around more than 4.5 star rating from over 1,000 reviews) the main thing attracted me to Beko was the 5 year warranty. Given they are both lower end, I'd rather go with the one with longer warranty. At least I can use it for 5 years worse case scenario.. lol

      • Agree our 8kg front loader has high water and energy efficiency ratings and has been super reliable over the past 6 years and was bought for around $600.

    • -1

      $1.5K? Buy 2!

    • Bosch.

    • ASKO Frontloader. Does a great job washing and very low water usage.

  • +1

Any 10% off GCs offer to go with this?

  • +1

    No cameras? Boo.

  • -5

Meh, the phone I'm interested in (edge 20 fusion 5g) is still more expensive than competitors at 10% off. Fake news sale.

    • +2

Lmao just because something you want isn't at the price you'd like it to be doesn't mean the sale is fake.

  • Samsung A73 5G 128GB Mint $539.10 after discount, however I could not find stock for C&C in VIC.
    Delivery is $5 for me.

    • +1

Wait for the eBay Afterpay sale, it’ll be cheaper :)

If my calculation is right, it should $506.59

      • -1

Afterpay is irrelevant. Used it once, won't be back. They are rubbish.

Afterpay is trying desperately to cling to what it once had. PayPal and credit cards have caught up and now offer ways to pay for things in installments. No need for Afterpay.

I bought a dishwasher a couple of days ago through GG, but now it's $95 cheaper with this coupon. Does GG have a policy to refund the difference, especially since they haven't got the stock delivered yet?

    • +1

I have similar question, but the product I bought is now $200 cheaper! I bought it three days ago, picked it up and used it already :( Really sucks to see it $200 cheaper in 3 dayssss.

    • Call them and ask..

  • I'm after a new dishwasher, any recommedations around the $1k mark?

  • +1

I used to think Bosch, until my Bosch washer failed recently and I went to the repairer. Bosch isn't what it used to be. The reason is that the German stamp is now only a stamp because parts are now sourced from anywhere cheap like Romania. Had a good talk to the guy he showed me what he meant and showed how he's FLOODED with calls. Turns out the main board had gone on mine so put it out for the council to take in hard rubbish.

If you look at the US, the number 1 brand is Whirlpool, but our Whirlpool is not the same. They have industrial strength type ones there, so that's out for us.

Number 2 is LG ! So I bought a 10kg LG and it's perfect for us.

The Bosch was actually pathetic with it's water usage, clothes sometimes didn't get wet properly due to the extreme eco programming. I'm all for eco, but if you need to wash it's got to get properly wet. Sometime towels were nearly dry in the middle.

  • Hi, will it able to price match with costsco and still have 15% off a range of Small Cooking Appliances?

Ticket prices are jacked, at least for the Bosch dishwasher that I bought back in Feb this year from Good Guys.

Bosch Series 6 45cm freestanding dishwasher was listed as $1249 in Feb this year. There was no sale at that time. I bought it then for $1190 - I asked for a discount at the counter when buying, and they gave me $59 off.

Exact same dishwasher is now listed as $1349. HOME sale brings it down to $1149, so I guess you still get an okay deal. Great dishwasher.

  • I bought a dishwasher 3 days ago,
    Any ozbargainers got advice.
    Can i
Buy the same one with a discount, Ask for a return using new ones Cardboard etc?

Good 400 dollars, im kicking myself

    • Just ask for the price difference, normally TGG's are pretty good at refunding you the difference (provided the product you brought is eligible for the discount).
