I know it’s still a lot of money…but I find it remarkable that the literal best TV on the market can be had for under $5k. Great signs for the market that the latest tech is available this cheap, this early in the product’s cycle

    OLED

Samsung QD-OLED, which is an important distinction when the rest of their OLED line-up is LG WOLED.

Having just bought the c350 Toshiba 65 inch for 664.

They are chalk and cheese apart in quality and price.

My plan was to buy this Sony TV.

I gotta say after buying the toshiba, for the amount we watch TV, and it's decent amount. I think we made the right choice. (Our last TV broke so I've been on the lookout, when the toshiba came out at that price i couldn't say no)

This TV is virtually 10 times the price, however I don't think we'd get 10 times the enjoyment out of it.

I also won't be too busted up if somthing happened to my toshiba as opposed to somthing happening to this.

I think I'm happy with my budget TV, it's pretty good.

That said this is a rippa of a TV that is probably get for a theatre room some time in the future…. and maybe a bigger size. You only need to look at it to see how nice it actually is.

Yeah sure 120 Hz would be better.. but it's not like I miss it.

    Also, Harvey Norman.

Ive seen this TV being negotiated down to this price a fair bit. Seems to be the floor. I just wish it came in 77", I would be all over it.

Samsung (ODM) hasn’t made 77” QD-OLED panel, so, no for downstream. Undoubtedly, next year.

You'd have to not care about your bank balance to buy at this price, can't see it taking long for it to become more reasonable.

Even worse when you consider Samsung will prob do a 40% off on the EPP or education store and leave you crying in your wheaties if you buy now..

The Samsung QD OLED is 4.5k with no discount, so it’s up to you to decide if this is good value with google tv os and sony build quality. Otherwise they should be exactly the same panels.

    • +1

Different implementation of the panel and processing. Also Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision if that matters.

Also Samsung interface vs Google TV.

    • The Sammy hasnt been anywhere near as well reviewed as the Sony.

Apparently the best OLED TV so far but I am more interested in X95K (any idea when it will be released in Aus?), reason being kids often left the TV on then go and play games on other devices.. I am not taking the risk of burn in.

If the TVs are inactive for 5-10 it automatically switches to a screen saver, my C1 does that… So I'm sure Sony does the same

  • +1

    This or LG C1?

    • +1

This even beats LG G1 which is a model up from C1 or C2…This is the latest and best TV in the market at the moment with Quantum Dot OLED.

      • +1

To be fair though, the gap is MUCH smaller between the best LCD and LG OLED, vs LG OLED and Sony OLED. So really it's well past diminishing returns now. You only buy this since you have money to burn. I would much rather a 77" LG OLED over this any day.

    • +1

The C1 is gone, been replaced with the C2…

This is better than an LG, but whether it’s worth the significant price difference is subjective.
