  • Before someone inevitably suggests 8GB isn’t enough RAM read this

Been using my 8GB Mac mini for 7 months, photo editing, 4K video editing, multiple apps open at same time, etc. with no problems. I have the 512GB version though.

      • does it have fan noise when you do 4k video editing?

Nope. I only process short clips though. Less than 2 mins.

Well to get an extra 8gb is $200 which is extortionate

A few bucks cheaper from iitsupport on eBay with the same afterpay code: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/264686928811

  • A crazy price for 8GB and not upgradable. The M1 has a big advantage in the battery-powered world, but not so much when you are on the grid.
But I appreciate the value of OSX on the desktop. Worth it to avoid Windows, I guess :)
Yeah, you can probably get by with 8GB, but for that budget you shouldn't need to worry.

  • I have the same Mac Mini and after roughly 1.5 year of using it, it has slowed down significantly. I keep getting that rainbow wheel. I would go with at least 16gb of Ram in the future.
I do podcast editing and video editing FYI

    • I've found you need to factory reset it after a while. Should solve that problem

      • I have too many data and I don't wanna loose them all :(

    • I also after 6 months sold due to maxing out ram particularly using Rosetta 2 apps. and upgraded to the 16gb model.

Still have only 256gb not 512gb
      But much more stable

      • true. 16gb will get you further

Would recommend 512GB storage. It’s difficult to remove some of the data that gets cached over time from projects and other crap that OS creates.

Would wait for the M2 though. Might bring this model down.
