        • I am not sure, I found from HWiNFO64

  • +3

Thanks picked one up, and additional $100 HN gift card available if bought under 60 months interest free

    • Probably worth noting that you need to apply for a Mastercard Go (credit card) to receive the $100 GC

      • I had one of these cards for years and I still got the $100 GC

    • +1

Also note that there is an extra ~$540 in monthly fees that you would pay over the 60 months.
Small print on the HN page:
Total estimated price $1635 (Incl $8.95 monthly fee). Interest applies if you do not comply with Terms & Conditions

  • What is a better branded gaming laptop? MSI?

    • Depends on the model more than just the brand. This is a budget laptop which makes some compromises to get to this price. There's lots of better ones but will cost more. In terms of value, this is very hard to beat

  • +3

Very good laptop at a great price. I've bought 4 different 3060 gaming laptops over the past 2months for work (Alienware, Razer, Asus, and this), and this was the only one that didn't have any quality issues or factory defects out of the box. The rest all got returned.
Also the RGB lighting on the keyboard looks fantastic and a lot better than the other laptops

  • What single 8gb ram stick would people recommend to bump it upto 16?

    • most people, myself included got this for the second 8gb ram. $43 atm. (was $46 when i got it)

      • Is it 1Rx8 or 1Rx16? I notice in the answered questions for that item someone reports getting a 1rx16 and I can't see on the crucial website what the rank config is.

  • got one and ordered the xtra ram - fun times ahead

  • +1

Picked up my order the model number on it was AN515-57-54QC but the product code matches.. anyone know what the difference is?

  • Bought one and installed a Crucial Ram 8GB 3200Mhz. Worked like a charm and the cover opened easily enough.

Battery sucks ass but I don't have high hopes for a gaming laptop to last 7-8hrs anyway. So far I have been very impressed with everything except for the lousy speakers and the horrendous touchpad (coming from Macbook Pro 2015, Acer's touchpad is just straight up unusable for me; but nothing a mouse cannot fix). Keyboards, on the other hand, was quite good with shorter travel between the keys which took me a bit of time to get used to. Also the Backspace is too close with the "N" button for NItro Sense which made me mis-pressed couple times per day. Overall nothing deal breaking and loving it so far.

Next stop: Installing a Crucial 1TB NVMe SSD stick. 512GB filled up pretty quick with just a few games.

IMPORTANT - If you have purchased it on or after 15.08.2022 you are entitled to a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II digital download, via redemption

    • any further details on this?

    • I actually bought this deal to replace my aged slow AF laptop. I tried to get my game via redemption but site doesn't work and now conveniently Hardly Normal isn't showing this "promotion" any longer. Now I'm getting nowhere speaking to HN or the Intel site both throwing back at the other.

They are such rubbish it is not even funny. Dirtier than a hooker after a 24 hour shift.

        • +2

HN always being dragged to ACCC. Kept $,$$$,$$$'s that Harvey cheated to get, & the criminal Morrison LNP claimed was "too hard to get back" or some such sh*t. I hope Albo goes after that criminal Harvey and gets those millions back. What a scumbag Harvey is!

Guess what? My accountant forgot a spit of interest from my bank last time and you had better believe that the ATO showed up, TWO WEEKS LATER, asking for that $12!

          No joke.

    • Was you able to claim yours? I just shoot them an email with the cache link from @Geekomatic and see if they will honour it or not.

      • It is actually listed on the invoice, you don't need the webcache.

        • Do you mean the physical invoice? Because I only have the digital one and nothing is listed there.

          • +2

@Grey 13: They are so weird. I have it on my digital one

            • @dosada: Hey mate thx for sharing. Really appreciated this. Seems like your invoice date was 22 Aug and mine was 20 Aug. Shouldn't make a difference though. Mine did not have any code imprinted in it but thanks to your image I will keep following up with Harvey Norman. Cheers.

                @Grey 13: Hey,

the offer is back on the HN page. There is also a link to Intel where you can register for it. You need to download a small app that verifies the computer and you are good to go.

                • @dosada: Yeah I know mate but they said the offer is only eligible from 25 August onwards which is a load of BS. Have you been able to register yours?

                • @dosada: Hey, I was trying to redeem mine. Intel asks either the 'master key' or 'Purchase Verification' to redeem. I don't have the master key, so chose the 'Purchase Verification', Hardly Normal, i5 and i5-11400H. Then the webpage started to download the Intel_HST and loaded the testing. However, it didn't pass the test.
Could you pls share your experience?

                  • @maaboo: Just completed the process. I tried a few times about the Intel_HST testing stuff. While the webpage is showing "loading and testing", I run the downloaded file at the same time, then it passed the test. After that you need to provide your receipt (jpgs are fine), then receive a confirmation email from them. Then wait 10 business days for a decision.

                    • @maaboo: Yeah I just got the approval email back from Intel saying that my code will be ready by 28 Oct. You should get yours soon as well.

                      • @Grey 13: Thanks for sharing. I'm still waiting…

                    • +1

@maaboo: my invoice date is 29 july, will I stand any chance :(
what is the actual procedure to get this from Intel?

edit: tried it on Intel site, but it only allows to enter purchance date within August only :(

Purchase Period: Buy a Qualifying Device Established by Participating Retailer - may span some, but not necessarily all, of the following period: August 25, 2022 USA Pacific Time to December 31, 2022 USA Pacific Time
Submission Period: Submit Claim Form August 25, 2022 USA Pacific Time to January 15, 2023 USA Pacific Time
Redemption Period: Redeem Offer August 25, 2022 USA Pacific Time to March 15, 2023 USA Pacific Time

                      • +1

@bazingaa: Hey try to see if you can bring it back to your local store and request for a soft return with the purpose of re-invoicing with the proper date per instruction in the post (scroll down to comment section): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/720913

                        • @Grey 13: My timing was so bad and even now they have reduced the price further $200 :/ I got it from the previous deal for $1298 :(

                          • @bazingaa: Even at $1,298 it was still a pretty solid price. I think the reason for the sharp price drop was the lack of PCI port and Thunderbolt 4 in which the later seems to be a bit odd due to Acer not utilising Intel i5 gen 11 chip capacity for it.

                      • @bazingaa: I think Grey13's idea could work. Bring it back to the shop and ask for re-invoicing.

                • @dosada: Hey I got approved for the code! Cheers mate. You're a legend!

  • Opinions, please.

Son currently only has a work-provided laptop. He uses it for work (SW dev/works from home) and the occasional YT video. He's thinking he ought to get a "spare", in the event he ever leaves or just so he can fully separate all work from business. His preference is sticking w/10 until he must move and has it debloated. He's thinking his work will likely push to move to 11 and he's fine with that on the work laptop, but not his own.

Is this worth buying now, even though he technically doesn't need it just yet, or should he sit it out and wait for near Xmas deals? How good is this deal, all things considered?

I have an i3 version of the Acer & I love it.

    • +1

I doubt you would get anything better in the next year. There's been a couple 3060 laptops in this price range, the lowest being the Ideapad 3 5600H/3060 for $999. I personally would prefer that over this because a 5600H is better than an 11400H but the 11400H is no slouch.

  • Can I connect my USB c monitor to this laptop?
Currently run 2 x monitor (usbc and HDMI)

    • +1

      No

      • The review above says you can use monitor via USBC tho

        • review is on AN515-57-54ZA, not about currently available AN515-57-54QC,

  • This page's T&A's says the game bonus starts 25 Aug? Is this a F-up at Harvey's posting it way too soon and everyone getting screwed?

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-fhd-i…

Does anyone actually have a receipt which shows an earlier start date, or does no one actually have the T&A's from before?

Good ol' HN. BS, BS, BS.

    • I have applied. Bought on 23 Aug.

    • Yeah I purchased it on 20 August and just got approval for the code from Intel so I guess the promotion date on HN website was either bogus or a placeholder date to attract people into buying their Intel/Acer laptops.

  • How would this go for the Microsoft Flight Sim on a 34" 3440x1440

  • How do I get this laptop to work with two monitors?

  • Would this handle VR gaming or should I be going for something beefier? Realistically all I want is a laptop to run some of my better VR games a little more portably + play the occasional steam game via my Xbox controller on the go.

Annoyed I missed out on the Razer blade 17 for $1900 so happy to hold out if I need something more to those specs.

  • Welp, finally opened mine up now and it's dead on arrival. No charging light, doesn't turn on, nothing.

    • +3

      Initially thought the same.
Make sure you have plugged the power cable fully in the back. It makes two "clicks".

      • +1

I discovered this a while later and felt pretty stupid.

    • +1

Haha yeah - I had the same problem too until I found out you really hard to push the charger firmly into the back (two clicks as OzB123 said).
