Game's 40% off Clearance Sale (Instore and Online)

861
40off

As title says. I think its due to them closing down in the near future. For more information on this possible closure and the risks it has to customers read:

http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/05/is-it-safe-to-buy-from-…

Expect things to be very slow, as it is currently being ozbargained the hell out of right now.

Excludes digital cards and hardware.

Update: Comments say online items as late as monday have arrived, so i believe this means online ordering is still reliable. Site appears to be operating reasonably now. And also, their facebook mentions to order by platform, as not all discounted items are listed by default.

    Their site is getting smashed

    • +1

      This is a splendid sale.

  • +4

    Hmmm…who dares wins…or not?

Think I might try the instore option on this one - word is AusPost are refusing to do business with GAME, so they are using some other courier company ;)

    • +2

That is correct, from what ive heard from one of the SME's they are almost 90k behind payments, so post has pulled the pin on all pickups for this mob.

  • damn can't even open their website

  • i got the items in the chart, now cant checkout

  • +5

    down she goes!

  • +2

can we preorder or it's risky ?

    • +10

      I wouldn't.

    • +2

No way man. People already got burned with Diablo 3 pre-orders so why would you risk it?

      • +1

Correct. All pre-ordered were cancelled due to Game going broke and everybody who pre-ordered lost there deposit.

        • -1

Not entirely true. I picked up my Diablo III CE on release day. Some people got burned, but not everyone, perhaps not even most.

        • Considering Blizzard themselves stepped in to help out all those customers that lost their pre-orders with Game, I'm going to take a wild stab and assume that it was a hugely significant portion of all pre-orders.

          http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/05/16/blizzard-honour-diablo-3-p…

  • ARGH!!! cant even get access to site. BOOOO

  • +1

    site is semi back

  • Had a game in the cart and then gone.

  • +4

Yeah the site comes and goes. Just finished loading my cart with 7 games for $97, then it removes them all -.-

  • +2

The PS3 collector's edition for Arkham city is $78 http://www.game.com.au/batman-arkham-city-collectors-edition…
    So $46.8 after the discount.

    • +1

      If only that worked :(

    • discount does not seem to apply to that item

  • +1

    Dont worry, bad maths haha

    • +1

On the right of website, "not combined with 2 for $40 deals", so your order maybe cancelled.
I got myself the collector edition of Driver (PC) for $23.6 missed last one from DSE, and wish I can receive it before they closing down.

  • +3
    • How did you even get on to the site to check lol.

Mines been loading for 5 minutes (fox chasing its tail)

    • i think it said for SELECTED stock, not ALL

  • Got both LEGO Harry Potters for the gf for $34.80.

    • +29

      The GF.. yeeeaahhh…. right.

  • There were ~250 games listed a few minutes ago, now I'm only seeing ~29. Odd

  • +2

    GAME is the new COTD!

    • -2

No, to be the new COTD you had to have popularity in the first place before being scumbags.

  • +1

Site is slow but working for me.
I added items to my cart not included in the 40% off sale, and they got the discount too! Hoping Game don't notice this and send it to me…

  • They're gettin' OzBargain'd so bad right now!

  • +2

You should put in your description that Game has gone into administration. Online orders are risky - http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/05/is-it-safe-to-buy-from-…

    • +1

      Amending now, thanks.

    • +1

Chargeback on the CC should be fine (but not 100% ofcourse). Goods or services paid for but not received.

  • +1

I hope something left for me. Damn, cannot open Game website here on work…can't wait to go home

  • +4

It looks like GAME's administration has been sold to Catch of the Day

    • They must have forgotten to set ridiculous shipping prices. Get in while you still can!

  • LA Noire and RDR for $25.20 delivered. Thanks for posting this!

    • No worries - my first front page deal :)

  • +1

Managed to get an order through, took about 15 minutes total. Not risking on anything too expensive, although I guess we can always chargeback on CC.

  • +4

    site died

  • +2

Holy crap! Here I go failing exams once again. Game - helping the universities earn more money.

    • -1

how else are the kown-nothing lecturers to make $200 an hour and department heads $600 an hour?

      • +2

Lecturers only teach. It's up to you to learn. :p

        • It's more like 150 an hour casually and your prep time can be 4+ hours depending on your field .

          Just so you know.

Considering said lecturer is probably on staff you should probably know that anyone below professor is probably on below 90k, more likely 70-80.

You department head numbers are bollocks.

So, your actually getting your lecturers for a real ozbargain… . Or an ozdisgrace if you compare it to what you get in other fields.

  • +2

    Site is proper dead now.
    EDIT: or not? haha
    EDIT2: actually is faster now

  • Buying online? You probably wont EVER see the game or get your money…

    • +3

Wrong. Bought online from them on Monday. Got it today.

    • +1

I've bought from GAME online for a very long time. As for since they entered into remission, maybe- but maybe not.

I picked up Driver, TinTin and Ghost Recon- all 3DS titles for $11.40 each.

      • Why the minus votes? They're in administration.
        Quoted from the Lifehacker link:
"Buying online is very risky. If you order goods and the administrators decide to close the operations before they ship, you’ll be very low on the list of creditors to be repaid. (First up are the administrators themselves, then secured creditors such as banks and landlords.) I’d be holding back from ordering online from GAME for the near future."

  • Finally got an order through for RDR (pre-owned) and Forza 4 + wireless wheel. Only took 53 minutes!

    • So the 40% off applied to Forza + Wheel (Soldout now). Might try in-store if that's the price.

      • Yep, $46.80 after the discount for Forza 4 + wireless wheel

        • I got it for that price in store weeks ago and then 20% MS rebate! Wheel is great fun.

  • +1

Only wanted to get the speed wheel +forza, and it went out of stock while checking out.

    Damn you, DVDguy!

    loljks, have fun!

    • Ha, same.
Will probably wander into my local store tomorrow morning, doubt they'd have stock though..

  • Tried to get Starcraft 2 but code isn't applying to it, waaa :(

  • +1

Damnit, just bought a game from them at 25% off and got it today

It was shipped via Couriers Please, they are a prepay courier service

    • Couriers Please? That seems strange, I've never seen a distributor use them, only smaller companies..

Maybe because of the closure they've been forced to close accounts and use them?

      • +1

Someone on Whirlpool said Australia post are refusing to do business with them.

        • That'd explain it then.. =/

  • +1

Code doesn't apply to already discounted items, which is stupid.
    ALSO the site is doowwnnn

  • Very slow, but got 10 games for 360 and PS3 for an averaged out price of about $13.00 each, thanks for the heads up!

    • I'm so jealous. Everything was out by the time I got onto it.

  • MW3 PS3 for $34 delivered. Not too bad

    • $88 New
      $32.40 Pre-Owned.

      Must've fixed something.

  • site is getting hammered!..

  • Double check at the Review and Pay stage (goes without saying really) as I found that the discount code disappeared at some point during the dreadfully slow loading of pages.

  • Just some added news:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17578451

Not sure what it means for aussie stores though.

    • Seems only to be relative to U.K stores, no mention of the Australian chain.

  • +6

So a GAME rep signs up, engages the community and even makes OzBargain targeted promotions. Next thing you know, Boom! They're in administration. I'm not saying the two are related but… ;)

  • Worth the risk, plus from me

  • -2

    rape and pillage

  • +2

My understanding is once a company goes into administration, any transactions placed while in administration are required to be honoured, or refunded if unavailable, as you are dealing with the administrators, and not the original company. By this logic, you should be safe to order online, and if they run out, you should get your money back.

The only issues that should arise are those that involve transactions prior to when the administrators took over (eg refunds / exchanges / preorders).

    • Well actually;

IF you read the article i put up, in the case of closure the order of payment is Administrators, creditors and banks, other institutions, then the customers. So If they run out of money before they get to customers, we don't get compensated.

      • +2

Yes, except the role of the administrators if to liquidate assets, and they can only do that at the moment by selling them off.

Any orders that are placed will be honoured, as they are the administrators assets now, not GAMES.

Anything left over will be auctioned in bulk, or returned to suppliers.

        • Administrator often keeps it running while they assess wether/how best to liquidate. Administrator ~administers the business while creditors meetings help and they work out with creditors if they will accept 2c on the $ etc. Administrator tries to freeze against further losses, collecting outstanding accounts, that may also mean trying to trade it on to keep it saleable by liquidator.

Voluntary administrator means they did it themselves vs regular or enforced administration. Sometimes voluntary admin means they got onto the problem before it got totally out of hand (but still a big mess usually & too far gone).

Then (& usually) when they cant work out a deal with the creditors liquidator is called in & Liquidator liquidates. Thats when someone will get a real bargain but it will usually be a job lot = not for you & me…

I wouldn't spend $ in big chunks except for pickup as once liquidator is in then your $ are pretty well gone…….

  • -1

are all games in the sale or not becausethe 2 i want dont show up when i search through platform

  • -5

Has anyone checked if they actually received 40% off? I just calculated mine and I was charged more than 40%, I bought Virtua Tennis 4 (Xbox 360), Top Spin 4 (Xbox 360), Adventures of TinTin (N3DS), LEGO Harry Potter: years 5 - 7 (Xbox 360). Total was $55.20 when it is suppose to be $36.60…

    • +12

40% off means you pay 60%…
If course you were charged more than 40%.

      • +1

        Yeah haha sorry just realised

    • You sure? The total that it shows is the price after you enter the coupon for each thing. If that made sense.

  • +1

just got driver: San Francisco for $23 :)
    +1

    • +1

      Same :-)

  • +2

pokemon black and white preowned are about 19 dollars each
pretty good value for those games

    • Bought Pokemon Black for $19.20 (:

      • My order is still "pending" …. what about you guys?

  • +1

Wondered into parra dicksmith after work. They had deus ex on ps3 for 10 bucks each ( multiple copies) and driver 3 for $20 bucks (limited)

    • Driver 3?

    • I've noticed just about all SquareEnix games are ridiculously cheap at the moment.

Wonder if they are in financial trouble or something, even on PSN they are one of the only companies to offer discounted digital games.
      Deus Ex
      Final Fantasy XIII / XIII - 2
Can be found for like $10 easy.

  • Argghh!!! I've been stuck on Confirm and Pay page for a while…

  • near impossible to load pages for me :(

  • Hmm going to check instore tomorrow, any bargains to check (for those who went)?
