Game's 40% off Clearance Sale (Instore and Online)

861
40off

As title says. I think its due to them closing down in the near future. For more information on this possible closure and the risks it has to customers read:

http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/05/is-it-safe-to-buy-from-…

Expect things to be very slow, as it is currently being ozbargained the hell out of right now.

Excludes digital cards and hardware.

Update: Comments say online items as late as monday have arrived, so i believe this means online ordering is still reliable. Site appears to be operating reasonably now. And also, their facebook mentions to order by platform, as not all discounted items are listed by default.

Game's site working now, probably people realizing there is not much of a bargain.

Little Big Planet 2 for $34 discounted??(I actually called a game store to ask for stock and cheapest price) Gotta be kidding me, no wonder they are out of business.

If I were management I would just try to liquidate everything. Bundle useless games with good games and sell them in $20/$30/$40/$50 bundles, that should get rid of the trash games fast. Closing down anyway, might as well sell everything in a few days and close shop, save on the electricity, rent and employee overheads.

Seriously maybe economical gamer can start an online store with physical distribution centers in each major city with reasonable prices that would wipe the smile of faces of the other overcharging retailers..

    • +2

They sure do overcharge the games, even the staff working there get under paid (a mate's brother worked there once, 28k start, which is crazy for someone 21 yrs old)

edit: wtf is with the neg for no reason? some people should be revoked of neg rights.

      • +3

They probably earn less than 28k and are older than 21 years ;D

$180 for an Xbox 360 250GB Slim console after 40% discount.

    http://www.game.com.au/xbox-360-250gb-console/xbox-360/XB360…

Where does it say excluding hardware?

    • Left side of the main page, but seems to work for that one.

    • On the left of every page. Good price, but it is pre owned

      • Just bought the xbox 120 elite console $107 preowned instore. Warranty will be dodgy but should work for a while, maybe until the slimline prices drop.

    • …on the left side of the screen on the link? I wouldn't try it, there is a good chance they will revoke it and charge you full price.

      • Surely that's illegal?

        • No not ever. Companies almost 100% of the time have it strictly stated in their Terms & Conditions something along the lines of:
Any pricing mistakes will be corrected and your order cancelled with no notice etc etc.

If you put up a sale for cars for $1000 instead of $10,000 I'm pretty sure you'd be pissed if people took advantage of you.

        • its defintiely not illegal. I mean if its a error of like $10, then they will most likely honour it to save the hassle. But 40% off is something to argue for.

  • Bit risky to buy online, might not get delivered or have delays. Go to the shop itself instead!

  • Just ordered RDR for 10.80, thanks OP

  • +1

I ordered the Assassin's Creed B/Hood PC copy the other day when they had 25% off, and it arrived today. So I'd say you'd be pretty safe to purchase online.

  • I guess vita games count as digital cards? The 40% off discount code didn't reduce any of the vita games…

nvm it's only for *Selected stock.

    • +1

When I called up earlier, they said that the 40% off was only to full priced and preowned titles. Most of the PS Vita games were already on "sale"

  • +1

Went to the store at Broadway and got Mario 3ds for $36, Ridge Racer 3ds for $11.40, Rugby World Cup 2011 for PS3 for $8.40.

I then decided to pop into the Dick Smiths across the mall and picked up Rage PS3 for $10 and Pilotwings 3ds for $10.

This is to go with my $136 3ds that I bought from DSE Auburn and Kid Icarus for $37 on the weekend :)

  • Hrm, I made my order, the money has been charged to the card (pending), but I never received a confirmation email of the order.

The invoice is viewable on the site though. I hope I get my games!

  • Does anybody know how are quality of the pre owned games are?

    • luck of the draw i'd say.. but for $10 (most of them come to about that) im not going to complain..lol

  • +1

DAMN IT i just spent $55 for 3 games after i told myself no more games until i finish the games i haven't yet gotten around to playing… thanks a lot OZB!!! lol

    • Welcome to my life….

      • +5

I got a new cupboard (on special) from Home Hardware, for just that reason.

        • hmmmmm great idea!

        • +3

Haha, I think this is the life of the modern gamer now.

Enough money and resources to find games at good prices.
No time to play any of them and already has a huge backlog.

** Looks at Steam account **

          :S

  • i was sooo close to buying sonic for xbox at 29 bucks for the limited edition but pulled out at the last minute. sorry but i think 20 bucks is a fair price for this. unfortunately game will not be getting my hard earned bucks.

  • Popped into my local game store to see if there were any bargains yesterday and it was gone! Unlucky… for me.

  • Oh, the code worked for Mass Effect 3 Collectors (PS3), so thanks.
    $58.80 delivered.

    • I couldn't find it online. can you please post the direct link

      • +1

Got it last night. Seems like as they sell out it goes off the website. Hence on 5 (40% off) items left, down from 300 odd

    • Also for those who wanna play on PC (like me, its just awesomer).

Mass Effect 3 Deluxe Edition (more stuff) is only $39 direct from Origin right now!

Cheaper than any where else I could find (ebay, ozgameshop, zavvi and mighty)

  • Anyone bought pre-owned from them? Quality ok with manuals and real cases?

    • their preowned quality is good. they have some stickers on the case but they have the manual and everything.

    • Ya I bought 2 games yesterday from my local (dude working there is a nice guy).
The Saboteur and Uncharted 2. Both discs were in excellent condition and both had manuals.

Boxes will be a bit scuffed but you can easily swap the cases with a better condition one and just trade that in.

  • My online order status has changed from pending to packed. Hopefully will get shipped soon.

Since GAME is now dying / dead. What is the future for EB Games being the only real game store left apart from Game Traders

    • +3

I reckon EB will be next (suprised they didn't go before Game actually) slowly digital content is becoming more accepted and the profit margins are pretty tight. JB can easily compete because they sell other stuff, EB and Game pretty much only sell Games. Any retailer that only focuses on video games, books, DVD's/BluRays etc will be gone in the next few years, overheads are too high and profit margins too slim. You will probably see a rise in online stores like ozgameshop and digital content.

I give EB 3 years tops.

      • Prices are only part of the problem at EB, the company itself is either horribly managed or are completely at the whim of publishers.

Have you ever tried custom ordering anything at the store? It's almost always refused because even store managers don't have the power to get things in.

There is no local tracking on what is hot or not, they just get delivered a huge box of real crap (a few dozen copies of My Little Pony for PC anyone?) every week from head office and told to flog it any way they can.

About the only thing semi-guaranteed is pre-orders.

It's no model to run a healthy, competitive, growing business. Prices aside EB could be great. But it never will be. I agree with you; it'll be a sad day when it's gone (though then again - only because it killed all the local games-selling businesses when it came to Australia and will now die and leave a huge hole because they were greedy and brain-dead), but good riddance and it can't come soon enough.

    • Everyone's buying overseas now + stores like JB are even cheaper than EB. Not too long and we'll see another one of these clearance sales…

  • I think what kills them is we all buy from overseas now at a fraction of the cost! Key is to lower their prices!!

    • +1

I'm not defending the bricks and mortar stores but it is pretty hard, they buy from the distributor who sets the prices. Imagine the overheads for EB or Game in a place like Westfields. This is a guess but for a small store I can see rent being 5-10k per week (I would say the higher end of that range but someone would have a better idea) factor in wages (typically 3 staff at all times), electricity etc. On average they probably make around $20 per game for a new release title. Calculate how many games they need to sell to break even. Console margins are VERY slim, some older stock might have higher margins but generally around $20 would be fair. Assume 10k per week in overheads and they need to sell 500 games just to break even. A place like ozgameshop doesn't pay any GST so straight away they are 10% better off, they don't pay huge rent and can be basically run by a couple of people out of their house with very little overheads.

If the distributor set lower RRP prices that would mean lower margins, the bricks and mortar stores just can't win they are flogging a dead horse.

      • Yer true, would like to see EB Games stay around as they have great collectors editions :)

    • +2

nah. what killed them is the workers who thinks they are being paid to sit at a corner to chat about games and ignore customers who walked in. GAME has hired too many staff and probably got their display model wrong.

look at the likes of msy, where they set up a counter and stock behind the counter. That sort of model works when you are in a very price competitive market. Staff has no time to chat, customers who want a cheap price gets it, customers who want to price beat will be laughed out the door…etc etc.

Seriously, I am a consumer who doesn't like to bargain or negotiate or pay in cash to pay less. Give me the best price there and then.

      • +3

I like this no-BS efficiency model of running a business. Get in-get out, that's the price, take it or leave it.

Going to MSY for the first time was a daunting experience.
It felt like I was right in a particularly famous scene from Seinfeld involving a "Soup Nazi"!

  • If EB gone —-> further less competition —-> overseas retailers will increase their prices (may be in terms of shipping or base price), by looking at the limited market in country leaving no choice for Aussie Gamers to buy from overseas!
No good feeling with the Elimination of Game from the country

    • I buy overseas anyway. PLAYASIA.COM rocks always half of what you pay in Australia

      • +2

Zavvi/The Hut are the best with the discount codes. Ozgameshop is good with delivery timings but always few $$$ expensive than Zavvi/The Hut.

  • I got Dead space 2 $18.00 Rayman Origins $20.40 AND Metro 2033 $10.80 PREOWNED for 360 oh yeah

    • I got Fable 2 $11, AC2 $6 and Forza 3 $11 - ALL NEW! for 360. :)

      • when you have new copies of old games like that still in stock, you know that the business is not very well run…

        • I spoke to the guy working there, and apparently they got all of the stock from the closed stores. Not sure how many there were in VIC before the closures, but there are only 2 stores now..

As a point of interest, they had Duke Nukem Forever marked at $21, before the 40% off…. Plenty of them in stock. :P

  • Anyone has their status changed yet? Mine still says pending

    • See my post further up. It went from pending to packed.

    • Both my orders from last night are still pending.

    • Mine too. Mine was two preowned games. I hope they're not having trouble finding the stock.

    • Im guessing they're gonna start shipping out orders after the Queen's Bday long weekend. Hopefully.

  • -5

I went instore, they had 3 Play TV boxes on the rack marked at $68. I grabbed one expecting to pay $40.80 (60% of $68) and they said they actually had no new ones in stock but oh, here's a "pre-owned" one for $45… yeah right

Oh and they had the cheek to tell me it had a 6 month warranty… like that's gonna help

Acknowledging that some people are getting deals, I'm still negging based on that.

  • Payment cleared!

  • Got it just then. Damn it, the car is tiny.

  • My game got delivered today.

    • What delivery method? Courier? Mine order is still saying packed.

      • courier

      • Mine still says it was packed (they never updated it to shipped). Stuff came today.

  • Why doesn't their site offer paypal?
I was going to order something online but was slightly hesistant about the uncertainty of the company and all that jazz, and the fact that they only accept credit card payments. The risk is probably very low but I don't need the drama of having to chase my funds in the event of non-delivery.

  • Made two orders, received one yesterday, and just received the shipping notice for the second order today. The first one was delivered by Couriers Please (I've had stuff delivered to me from them before, they're usually pretty good and fast, at least in Melbourne). Packaging was pretty good, never had a problem with Game in this respect (will miss them if/when they're gone). Both orders still only say "packed" online, BTW.

  • Received 1 of 4 of my games, other 3 were cancelled by game.

    Hi ********

I am sorry to inform you that we have had to cancel

    Virtua Tennis 4

    Top Spin 4

    • My TinTin for 3DS was cancled as well, I noticed it back on the site before disappearing again. Bitched to them lol!

  • I ordered Batman Arkham Ayslum GOTY on PS3 on June 8th, and it's still pending.

They used to ship the same/very next day. This is just slack!

  • My two games arrived this morning. I purchased them "New". One arrived sealed, but the Lego Harry Potter yrs 5-7 arrived unsealed with stickers all over it so obviously pre-owned. I'm not the only one this has happened to according to Game's fb page.
I've contacted them and they are still selling this "New" online.

    • +1

Don't forget, alot of the stock from closed stores apparently went to the warehouse to be sold online. So you may have just got one that was on shelf once upon a time.

      • This is what they have basically said. The disc has a fingerprint on it however.
How can anyone be certain it's not pre-owned when it's not sealed?
Annoyed about it as this and the other game are intended as gifts.

        • May not have been possible for you, but going in-store was the best option for me.

If you have a store nearby that is still open, you might be able to swap it for new stock? They apparently got a heap of stock from the closed stores as well..

        • Thank you. I tried but they had no copies in store anymore. Consumer affairs advised contacting the administrators.

  • +1

Got resident evil 5 for $9 and splinter cell conviction for $6 today!

    • Awesome. Didn't see Splinter Cell there when I made my earlier order. I guess i'll just have to order another!

  • My order of Red Faction: Guerilla, RE5, Warhammer, Skate 3, Driver: SF, Infamous 2 and Killzone 3 all on PS3 all pre owned came today. All up about $100+. Other than being laced with the usual pre owned stickers and such, all are in really good condition, both manual and disc.

  • Anyone in Perth got their orders yet? I'm still waiting for mine since last week =/

This is what my status is currently still..

    12 Jun 2012 3:40 pm 0131 (SYD) Picked up 1 item
12 Jun 2012 6:53 pm 0217 (SYD) Transferred 1 item to Agent PEP PERTH

    • Nope. Still waiting on mine. Still says "Packed" for its status on the game website..

Been well over the 4-5 days shipping stated (ordered on the 7th) but giving them the benefit of the doubt and a few more days since they are not trading as normal.

      • My game arrived today…. But it is a US Version.. Instead of the Australian Version which was pictured on the website

  • One of mine is now in back order. Most are pending and 3 have arrived. All in excellent condition.
