  • This is an every day deal.

    • including the DSE $100 Gift Card? I know EB Games had it, but DSE?

  • neg. isn't that their normal pricing? http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/access-365/

and then there is the issue of the vodafone network ..

  • No details in title and normal pricing = not an amazing deal.

Edit: still normal pricing :) but now an option of $100 gift card for $4 if you don't want the phone or free months.

  • +8

All the above posts are wrong. WRONG!

The difference here is that there is a OPTION to pay a extra $4 for a $100 dicksmith giftcard. Could be handy for some, but I'm still happy with my $1 HTC ChaCha which I still think is better than the Explorer they are now offering. http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/dealfree/
neg me all you want, but you guys are just too negligent facepalm

edit: As for the OP, you should cut the crap - get straight to the point about the giftcard.

    • there is NO extra value in this deal. all the "extra" options are equivalent in value: get 3 months free or get a phone or get a dick smith card

      • The value depends on the recipient. Maybe someone already has a phone and isn't interested in 3 months extra but shops at DS.

Not for me though, I'm in the process of leaving VF.

      • +2

$100 dicksmith voucher. Obviously valued at $100.

The HTC Explorer cheapest can be had at $116 on vodafone prepaid locked —> http://vodafone.com.au/personal/prepaid/home/index.htm . It is also the A310b model which is NextG compatible. If you're looking for this handset outright, its roughly $169.00 —> http://www.mobicity.com.au/htc-explorer-a310b-nextg-compatib…

        The extra 3 months from redbullmobile however is valued at $39 (1month) + $79 (2month) = $114 —> http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/pre-paid/prepaid-plans/

Whilst there might not be any EXTRA value, some people may prefer it over the phone which is sold around $100 on gumtree anyways~
And they are not equivelant in value… $100 does not equal $114 which does not equal $116

What's the differences between the deal and the offer of Red Bull Mobile ?

    • +3

      THE DICK SMITH GIFT CARD

      • +1

Which is exactly what you should highlight on your title. Fixed that for you.

        • +1

          Its suppose to be $365…

        • Thanks Scotty :-)

  • +4

the deal is good for people, who don't mind the Vodafone network…

    • +2

Their 850mhz network is great, if you can access it.

  • How many km2 does vdafoneAU actually cover, anyone with info.

    • +4

The big problem with Yodafone isn't how much of the country that they cover, it's how inconsistent that coverage is! ;)

    • +1

Yeah and it isn't just coverage, it's also congestion issues. Friend and I used to joke while talking on his free minutes that some Voda saboteur with an evil grin was sitting at the controls and twiddling the volume dial to frustrate us and make us give up using free minutes. :)

    • +5

      In total, about 12km².
That's spread out over most of Australia though so you should have network access occasionally.

      • +2

U sure it's that large of a coverage area? - I know none of that 12km2 is part of canberra

  • For those already using RBM, and a smartphone, how badly does the Data get chewed up due to the 250kb session charges?

    • +1

If you are a normal mobile user 5GB/month is plenty. The problem may be surviving the frustration getting even a fraction of that quota.

  • Bugger, I would have preferred this. I bought the the white HTC CHA CHA for $1 with the $365 from EB games 2 days ago. Would have preferred the $100 DS voucher straight out.
Hate selling things on ebay etc.

    • +1

the extra 3 months might have been a better option?

HI I HAVE REDBULL AND LIVE IN HIGHETT IT THE SINGALS STRENGTH IS EXCELENT BUT THE DATA DOES NOT WORK . IT WILL WORK GREAT FOR 2 MIN THEN NOT AT ALL STILL WITH FULL SIGNAL STRENGTH . IT USES A DIFF IPO THAN VODAFAIL AND IT IS LIKE THEY ARE TURNING IT OFF AND ON SO YOU CANT USE IT . I CONTACTED REDBULL AND ALL THEY DO IS OFFER REFUND !! IF YOU ONLY WANT IT FOR PHONE CALLS MAYBE OK . DATA USELESS

    • +2

Your signal must be shit if you have to yell all of the time! :o

    • sorry to say i agree with Mallee69 had exactly same problem (in Qld)
weirdly never had a problem with calls (sometimes delayed sms tho.)

    • +1

      Please turn the volume down.

    • My data AND tethering works perfectly fine on a 3GS. Both in Melbourne and Brisbane :)

      • How did you get tethering to work on a 3GS??

        • Forum on whirlpool explains :)

It's such a shame Telstra doesn't have third party resellers on its network. They're missing out on a large chunk of the market that hates paying for the Telstra name but likes the Telstra network.

On the other hand, they don't really need to at the moment - people are falling over themselves trying to give Telstra their mobile phone money.

  • alright, so the more live sessions-dropped the more these 250kb chunks are adding up, I have gathered.

Would been nice to know how many square kilometers are estimated though. :( (550K ?) :

I am kind of a bang-for-buck connoisseur, aren't we all. So my thought here is I divide km2 by monthly-$, comparing alongside Optus coverage, for the budget end of the market.

0.55M km2/$30.41; =18,086km2 per dollar spent vs 1.1M km2/$17.40; =63,218km2 per dollar spent .. So just in a crude aspect, you get a sense of respective footprint ROI.
('RbM' vs 'Woolworths'-per month comparison inc estimates sourced from tech forum skimming)

I'll admit from here it is not going to be apt comparing signal strength /eg. consider RbM dazzling clients by Uncounted airtime, but whilst Optus provide -usable-coverage indoors (proper > 2bars, stable).

Nobody can deny NextG has The King-footprint; however, half of Telstra's network [>1.1M km2 of it, be aware] extends to reaching 0.5 million (the +'2%') of the AU-population. Translates to you getting 'quality' perhaps, but very little on the -quantity- scale (Data / Voice) while spending 'tens of $' every month.

My 2cents on vf-/rbm— and I have NOT seen 'FIVE GB' described "Massive" before - have I missed a new release?: I've had access "5 GB+ Data" since late November last year (Prepaid Recharges, courtesy of WoolworthsOptus). 720p24-as applied in tablet usage won't last 3hrs from 5GB, shock. Hello future. o:

The next Starter pack I jump on opens up 'TEN(10) WHOLE GB' for less than a fraction of the Red Bull MOBILE 365$ 'predated charge'/12mo =$30.41/mo average; try $9 on Dodo(Optus) special. Then back to the stopgap, AU8.60/5GB- Trusty SIM on Solid Optus. (……….How many km2, voda-net..??)

    • +1

Sorry, but your calculations have included an incorrect assumption early on, and so are meaningless.

You cannot just assume that the customer is going to use every square kilometre available to them. Nor can you assume that each square kilometre has the same value to the network provider.

      • And I only say one may get a 'sense', hinting that the calculation may be a subjective one, and must clearly rest on the user's budget. 99%, 97%, ?91%/ sq km/$, the choice is there.

Each to their own value and thanks for the feedback.
