      Martin is 73 and he's only just finished a single character arc of book 6. Whoever inherits Martin's estate will arrange for book 6 to be finished and book 7 to be written by a team of people from scratch.

          Nah, once he dies they'll hire Brandon Sanderson and it'll be done in like two weeks. Estates don't muck around lol.

    Hahaha "The greatest fantasy epic of the modern age" What a load of BS. I could rattle off a dozen better written and more iconic fantasy series than this crap. When every book in your series is worse that the book before then your series sucks. When you can't even finish the series, then you suck as a writer. Sorry but this overhyped crap needs to stop.

      I'd be genuinely interested in how people rate these books compared to other fantasy series. The TV series obviously made it super famous and usually the books are even better but then again the tv series (at least seasons 1-5) was pretty great.

        I am an avid fantasy reader and read Game of Thrones when it first came out. Since then there has been a renaissance period of fantasy writers and series with a lot more adult tone and topics. The issue I have with these books is while it started great, each book is worse than the one before and the quality just keeps deteriating. Add that with the length of time between books and the fact George the pirate will never finish the series, makes it subpar. The TV show was an amazing series with great actors, costume design, locations, etc. but with a terrible last season.

        What is frustrating to me is the movie industry is too risk adverse and failures in the 80s/90s trying to do fantasy movies right have caused them not to focus on this genre. There is a huge amount of content available that would make the most amazing movies and shows that still hasn't been realised because churning out another pointless remake or F&F movie is guaranteed to bring in some coin. Doing fantasy right is hard and hollywood is terribly lazy and narcissistic. Making a GoT prequel considering the wealth of other content available in the genre just to cash in on people's attachment to the series is depressing to me.

    Dont do it to yourselves it will only lead to heartache and sorrow. its been 10 plus years since the last book released and doesnt look like the series will ever be finished in book form.
