What Is The Objectively Best Sock?

Looking to stock up on socks, and want to know what sock you have found balances comfort, price, ease of removal/putting on, and longevity.

I’ve had socks that cost $30 a pair wear out in 3 months, poor comfort.

$8 a pair last 6 months before they loose their elasticity and full comfort.

Explorer HPH, I find to be uncomfortable and difficult to put on/take off.

Which sock do you think is best?

Which sock do you think is best?

The one that got banned here last Xmas.

    It was hilarious.

O.P. asking the real questions. 5/7 post.

    • I have found the best shoe, and now I need the accompanying sock.

How many SO posts are just literal dupes

    • Also, RK’s question is different, with specific requirements different to what is outlined here

        That makes sense. Cheers

The best sock comes in a big jumbo pack of socks all exactly the same colour and design as each other, so you don't have to waste time pairing your socks.

  • What Is The Objectively Best Sock?

What OP likes. Self validation = Objectively :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

you might need to go up a size.

there are many socks i like for different applications, i have some cheapies (i think they're from kmart or somewhere like that) that have lasted close to a decade, i also have some thick merino wool ones (can't wear with all shoes, too thick for some in my size)

there is no "objective" best sock, people like different things and have different needs, some like warmth, some like ankle socks (but why?), some like thin socks, some cotton, some wool.

honestly, they're socks, it's hard to go wrong. if you are finding that they wear out too fast; try some work socks that are usually a blend of wool/cotton/polyester, they tend to be rather thick but they have synthetic outers for durability and wool / cotton inners for comfort. merino wool is not good for durability, it's softer than normal wool, something to do with the fibres being longer or shorter.

  • You cant go wrong with loro piana costa larga socks but each to their own

    • $1,300 for a pair of socks………………….

I like the Kmart no show socks though I think the ladies ones are a bit different to mens. I find Kmart socks are cheap and last well for me. My husband who has bony feet gets the Aldi socks for work when they have them and finds them better than Kmart. They seem to be lasting well, whereas other brands his heels would wear through. He also gets the Kmart no show socks for casual shoes.

Aldi has mens clothing this weekend so you might be able to get socks https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-27-…

  • I've got a few pairs of these, nice and warm and comfy meets all the criteria in the op.

Just noticed they are on special so I bought another pair. :)

    • Hol up - $22 for a single pair of socks‽

      • Yeah. They seem pretty good though, the oldest pair I have is about 6 months and still feels like new. See how they go in a year or so I guess. :)

So many sock posts these days.
Is OP intending to sockpuppet in next post?

For what purpose? Sports - tennis, cricket, golf, baseball, walking, running, hiking; business, casual….. or do you need the One Sock?

One Sock to rule them all, One Sock to find them, One Sock to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

Depending on the "objective" criteria, Bombas socks are demonstrably the best if you value social conscience with a reputably great product and a "One Purchased = One Donated™" policy

  • OP:

    Objectively

    Also OP:

balances comfort, price, ease of removal/putting on, and longevity

But joking around aside, I now use Bonds socks almost exclusively for both business and sport/leisure socks.

Are there better options out there? Somewhere between possibly and probably.

But they do exactly what is promised of them, the price seems about right (at least for me), they last long enough, they provide free and reasonably quick delivery, etc., etc.

Socks are definitely a purchase I don't want to think too much about (or at all) and these fit the bill.

  • These ones are cheap, right thickness level for me and last ages. - https://www.target.com.au/p/men-s-5-pack-work-technology-hik…

  • Darn Tough socks, available via Amazon. Super comfy, lifetime guarantee.

    • Bought darn tough socks at BigW, thought it was the same item sold at Amazon but with reduced price. Turn out it wasn't the same :(

    Thongs

  • I was about to ask this question.

So far I’ve tried Kmart, Calvin Klein and some 100% cotton brand from David Jones. All wore out pretty fast. The Kmart ones actually lasted the longest but the cut of the sock was uncomfortable and they were not padded and I like a bit of padding on the sole.
