Why would they leave out support for Aptx low latency on the Aonic 40s, so annoying cos guess it kills them for me vs the older but almost-twice-as-much Aonic 50s..

    • I couldn't see it in the listing or reviews so assume they're also missing Bluetooth multipoint

      • Actually, this review https://www.soundguys.com/shure-aonic-40-review-66515/ says:

"The AONIC 40 also supports Bluetooth multipoint, though it doesn’t advertise that for some reason. Multipoint works well here, reliably hopping back and forth between audio streaming from my Google Pixel 4a and my Apple MacBook Pro—simultaneous streaming isn’t an option, but it never is with multipoint."

So that did make me wonder about the LLC, but they don't mention that, so..

    • I might be misunderstanding but on the Shure site itself it says they are APTX compatible

According to that it says : Support for multiple codecs
including Qualcomm® aptX™, aptX™ HD, AAC, and SBC.

      • Yeah it's just that it doesn't specifically list aptX LLC, the low latency codec in particular..

    • Are you sure you are sensitive to latency?

I read awhile ago that AptX is already in the "great" category with latency compared to other codecs like AAC and SBC. I can't find the documents now but from other sources AptX latency is 60-80ms, I think this depends on range so if you are nearby your computer or TV it will likely be around 60ms.

AptX LL squeezes that down to <40ms but only people who are very sensitive to latency should notice the 20ms difference.

  • Wasn’t aptX LL retired for another codec?

    • Oh was it? I've just recently been learning about all this stuff. I know there's now aptX Adaptive or something which also offers low latency? But that isn't listed as supported either. If you have more info let me know!
