50% off Dashlane Premium Family Annual Subscription (Password Manager & VPN Bundle) US$29.99 (~A$43.09) for New Users @ Dashlane

back2school2022

This looks to be a great price for a decent family password manager subscription (5 users). It includes things like:

  • Two-factor authentication (2FA)
  • Biometric account recovery option
  • Dark web monitoring
  • 30-day money-back guarantee for personal and family plans
  • 1GB of encrypted file storage

In the reviews I've read, Dashlane rates pretty well - the biggest con appears to always be the price… but this offer includes a Hotspot Shield VPN account as well. Combining the cost of the two, this looks like a real bargain (at least for the first 12 months anyway).

I understand there are free and/or open source versions of both password manager and VPN tools available - but in my experience they're not as user friendly as some of the paid products (which is super important in my family - if it's hard to use, it won't get used).

Let's say I have a choice between the free Bitwarden and paid Dashlane. Why would I choose the much more expensive product?

    • According to the Bitwarden plans page, their version of a family plan is US$40 per annum.

It's fairly comparable - but doesn't include a VPN service, so if you're paying for that separately then Bitwarden + VPN is likely to be more expensive

      • Unless you really need to share passwords within Bitwarden itself, you don't need the benefits of a family plan.

With Dashlane free can only have up to 50 passwords — Bitwarden free has no limit.
Dashlane free doesn't sync — Bitwarden free does.

With Bitwarden, you actually get a product that axtually works in the free tier. It's just the OzBargain way.

        • Ok. So if you don't need/want/use any of the features of either product's family product or VPN bundle then… Sure.

  • How is this any better than Google password Manager? And how safe is Dashlane. I would place my bets on Google than Dashlane

    • Does Google's solution work with iOS nicely yet? I know it works in Chrome on iOS but last time I checked it didn't use the general iOS password options to fill anywhere.

Personally I'm thinking about switching from Bitwarden to Microsoft. Same logic, while Bitwarden isn't at risk of leaking my info anytime soon, they are at risk of simply disappearing as a company.

  • Using a password manager simply because it's cheap for 12 months is a terrible idea. The difficulty of migrating everyone in 12 months is going to be far worse than teaching them how to use Bitwarden (particularly because it's not hard to use in the first place).

I already went through it migrating off lastpass, it sucked moving everyone.

Thanks OP for the post. Pity everything on OzBargain has to be either 'use a free version' or must be the cheapest.

This is a bargain due to it's current pricing / offering.
Everything else the product does or does not offer is personal preference from pricing, features and perceived user friendliness.

New users can always download the free version (which does have limitations) and can always decide if this is a product for them.
