I paid for my Arlo doorbell not more than $25 from Kogan.

Cool. Post an Arlo deal then 😂 I'm tossing up between this one and the eufy doorbell.

I recently gone through alot of reviews, it turns out Eufy has among the worst delay in terms of pressing the button and getting connected. I went with this one

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCjxcBOcyTo

        • Thanks - will have a look at it.

        • Handy video. I didn't even know Google Nest needed a sub. Bugger that. Might grab one of those Blink ones, more suitable for me.

          • +1

@Selenium: I was under the impression it did not, it has 3 hours of video footage, with subs if you wanted to keep longer footage. as a doorbell, 3 hours seems sufficient.

Eufy I understand is one of the last few that does not require a sub.

            • @lawyerz: Ah okay. I skipped to the results and saw it mentioned. Three hours for free would be enough too. Well, it'll depend on finding a cheapie eventually.

            • +3

@lawyerz: its not 3 hours of footage, rather….you only have access to the videos captured in the last 3 hours. So if your away longer than 3 hours or out of range etc… you'll have not record of an event… it makes being diligent about downloading videos (assuming you can) a thing which might not work for all….

              happy to be corrected though.

              • @allergic2work: that was what I meant, but written horrible. the way you've clarified is better, thanks.

          • +1

@Selenium: The Google only needs a sub if you want longer term storage of video or 24x7 recording. I'm running one fine without it, still get all the video and notifications you'd really need unless youre using it for surveillance also.

    • Hang on - do you need a subscription for Arlo products?

      • Not for the older devices.

Oh snap. Bought from JB and installed it over the weekend.

Oh well…if anything goes wrong, guess I'd rather deal with JB than Optus.

  • Love my original wired version of this, way better than any Arlo product I used. It just works perfectly exactly as expected

  • I just tried price matching with JB (using their Live Chat) and they said they don't price match with Optus because you need an Optus account to get those prices.

    • +1

You don't need an Optus Service though. Haven't bought but went through the purchase process and you can select that you're new to Optus.

      • +1

Yes that's the same as what I went through but didn't bother arguing about it. I haven't purchased so might try again later.

    • +2

I just managed to price match with JB using live chat and used the perks voucher to get another $10 off

      • Did you say you were price matching with Optus and did they dispute it at first?

        • +1

all I said was that I found it cheaper on another site and linked it. they sent the checkout link without disputing it

          • @onyxx: Hmmm just tried, linking to the item as you did and they said they wouldn't price match to Optus because you need an Optus account.

When I asked if they meant an active Optus service, they said no, they wouldn't price match because you need to create an account to purchase the items in the Optus Smart Spaces cart. If you could checkout as a guest, then they would have price matched.

Have been knocked back with this reason by Dylan and Will, using JB's live chat.

            • @jprime85: Story again and tell them that you don't have to set a password whole checking out. Or just buy from Optus :)

            • @jprime85: I was able to price match in-store when I showed them the link. The person did have a weird look on his face when I said optus was selling it cheaper.

  • Works great with my existing chime, wired connection brings best value

    • Even better with a nest hub, full video and no need for a chime.

      • +2

I have hub too… But it takes few seconds to show up video.

I'm in a rental so this is good to have. Does it integrate with Alexa devices though or just Google? I'd like to not have to buy more hardware just for this to work through the video screen.

  • Do we need to pay monthly charges for this one like Ring?

    • Only if you want to save more than 3 hours of recording. Something like that .

      • 3 hours should be a lot for once in a while trigger for few secs. thanks

        • +2

*any videos in the last 3 hours

not 3 hours of total length of footage.

          • @lawyerz: Wow that makes a lot of difference. Are there any video bells which store the footage in phone instead?

            • +1

@snvr: Eufy, local storage that can be accessed via the cloud/internet/phone without any subscription. but take note while their cameras seems to decent, their latency for doorbells make them underperformers compared to google nest and amazon ring. For me, small lag is okay for a camera but not for a doorbell.

based on the review/testing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCjxcBOcyTo

  • The battery on this is unacceptably bad. I wouldn't get more than 40 days without having to charge it. I went back to the Eufy which gets ~4-6 months. Pros are you can have it announce who is at the door on Nest Displays.

    Office works $218.50
