    Price? - $899.00, previously $999

IMHO, get a galaxy note. Even though I dont like Samsungs (HTC fan) :P

Heck, you could get a Note and a netbook / refurb Transformer with dock for this price

Not going to neg because I don't like something, but I really don't think this is the next big thing- especially with advanced Win8 tablets / convertible notebooks round the corner

      • There's no way anyone in their right mind would touch this thing right now, the price will halve in under a month I reckon! Sticker shock is gonna kill potential early adopters & drive more of the market to the Note! ;)

      • Couldn't agree more about getting a Note and refurbed Transformer instead.
However, keep in mind, the PadFone carries a Snapdragon S4 which is used in the 4G version of the GS3 and One S - it's a powerful processor.

My combo will be a GS3 (3G model) and a Google Nexus Tablet.
The PadFone is an innovative and great idea, but the price tag, weight and poor camera quality is a real put off.

I agree the S4 is probably the fastest available right now, but according to review (The Verge, not the best) performance while docked can be crappy

Also the stylus-headset is the dorkiest thing since the Ngage

        • hey… I had some good times with my NGage

  • Well, at least it's cheaper than Asus' original price of $1000.

I was patiently waiting to upgrade to this phone/tablet/netbook hoping it would be the next big thing but after reading CNET Asia's review, the weight of this damn thing has really put me off: http://asia.cnet.com/product/asus-padfone-45863124.htm

"Now, the PadFone Station is by no means thin or light—it weighs 724g alone—but combined with the 129g of the PadFone, you're easily lifting 853g every time you want to read a book or surfing the Web with the tablet."

‎"Combine the tablet with the 646g PadFone Station Dock and you'll find that you are actually lugging around a 1.5kg notebook that lacks the processing power of a regular laptop."

wow, asus is really following the transformers theme closely. a phone that goes into a tablet that goes into a laptop.

kids from the 90s - headmasters anyone?

Do note that that the keyboard for the padfone has to be purchased separately! Factoring another ~100 for the keyboard dock AND a stylus would probably make the padfone cost roughly $200 more.

The bluetooth stylus is rather essential as without it you'd be scrambling to rip the phone out of the tablet should you want to have a private conversation on the go

edit: read somewhere that the tf101's (transformer first gen) keyboard/dock might be compatible with the padfone. Might be worth a shot for anyone interested

  • i think this is a pretty nice idea to be able to pocket your phone in your pad. Although it did start at a high price.. hopefully the price will drop to 600-700 ish by a month or two and i would consider it.
having said that, galaxy note does do its job and should be considered =D

  • Price on title please

Normal price. How is this a 'bargain'?

    • +1

      Normal price compared to…?

  • PadFone is a great toy but the price tag is a showstopper.

  • +1

can the tablet be used without the phone?

    • no. the 'tablet' is just a screen and works only when the phone is connected/slotted in

    • I believe the phone is the processor for the tablet. So no.

  • 1520Mah battery and not Next G?

The most worrying thing is can ASUS and Android keep the battery statistics accurate? I've yet to see it on ANY Android phone let alone a phone that docks into a tablet that has more battery life. Bull it's going to charge properly!

    im still using a nokiA 3310 and a writing pad… :(

    • +1

I bought a new 3315 in 2001, and it was still going strong when I replaced it in 2010! I eagerly await the day a smartphone gives me the standby time I got from a 9 year old Nokia on its original battery.

      • You might want to look into a Nokia e63, those suckers last for ages on a single charge with the bloat turned off…up to a fortnight IME! ;)

  • So why not just buy a Motorola Atrix 4g and lapdock?

  • The phone's concept seems neat - but the price isn't worth it. Otherwise their is the news release of the Clambook for iOS and Android. It's a display (16:9 aspect) and keyboard which physically connects to an iphone or android phone.

  • Asus Taichi FTW..phones are not going to get too much better and unless they bring a SAMOLED plus HD screen to the table, my needs are going to be fulfilled.

    Android can wait
    For Windows 8
