    What's so special about them?

or are you just being ironik?

  • Targeted?

  • Should be targeted

    • Sorry! I have no idea how to make it targeted - I couldnt see any option too.

  • Isn't this a duplicate? I think this was published a day or two ago.

    • +3

      That was for westpac

      • Ah, thanks! Yes, I need to learn to read more closely.

  • guess can buy this to use in coles, thanks

    • +1

      Super Shopper works.

  • +2

Didn't some ppl say from the last time they had this offer the company was dodgy and you should swap those gc from super swap card asap incase they block the card?

    • Oh thanks for pointing this out, can someone comment on this please? I was going to buy but will wait to see what others say first.

      • +3

I bought several and had no problem

    • +3

So you are saying the big banks/corp i.e. Westpac or AMEX will affiliate with some dodgy company to provide the cashbacks?

      • AMEX themselves has become dodgy lately with statement credits. Still waiting on several from Vintage Cellars.

        • It took a whole month to get my $10 statement credit on Amazon purchase

Some of those people complaining were using a special gift card purchased with promotions to purchase other special gift cards, then got angry when the loophole was closed and their gift cards cancelled.

They played stupid games and won stupid prizes.

I purchased gift cards using past Amex promotions as well as using the original gift card promotions as intended and had no problems whatsoever. FWIW, I wasn't targeted during this round of promotion, however had I'd been I would have no concerns purchasing via Special again.

      • Played stupid games, yes. But the stupid prize should not be them taking all your money.

    • -2

      Yes.

Special.com.au is only good for immediate hit and run during promos (as in, get your discounted card and immediately spend it).

Never seen a company take all of your money for using a promo code in a way their own systems allowed. At worst they should have issued a refund and not honoured the promos.

    • +1

That said, I hit this deal when it was 15% back on 10x Amex cards and immediately flipped them, so I'm not targeted this time.

I have purchased eight gift cards since the first Special gift card deal in April, and I’ve had no issues with redeeming any of my Special gift cards.

Just keep in mind the following:

      • I’ve had no need to contact Special’s customer support (so far), so I have no idea what they are like to deal with if you have an issue and need their support.

      • Special is very opaque in regards to the MCCs that are permitted with each type of Special gift card. Actually, Special do not acknowledge that their gift cards are restricted by MCCs, but I cannot workout how else they would restrict your usage of a Special gift card to a specific group of merchants.

      • The permitted MCCs for each Special gift card can change at any time without prior warning. The MCC for bottleshops was quietly removed from the Pub Crawler gift card a couple of weeks ago, and the featured retailers list for the Pub Crawler gift card was also quietly updated to remove BWS and First Choice Liquor. That caused problems for people who purchased the Pub Crawler gift card at a discount with the express purpose of purchasing Coles Group & Myer gift cards at First Choice Liquor, Vintage Cellars or Liquorland (or for spending money on other goods at bottleshops). I’m not exactly sure if this was within Special’s terms and conditions, as my quick read of it does not address whether Special can change the list of MCCs at any time without notice. I also helped a couple of OzBargainers who found themselves left high-and-dry by Special’s quiet changes…

there was a tonne of negative downvotes last time this deal was posted

    • why?

      • +2

apparently, alot of people got double charged, or triple charge on their credit cards, and that the gift card didn't appear or arrive. I did not purchase it the last time this deal came around after reading the negative comments so I can't speak from personal experience.

        • +1

The negative comments initially put me off but after reading them it sounded like karma getting back at those people who like to take things too far and abuse the system. Anyway, I bought a couple in the last deal and had no issues.

          • @capslock: could use your advice then, so say I just want amazon gift cards, looks like its under the 'super shopper' - how is this used to redeem/purchase at amazon? is it just a gift mastercard/visa card? Apparently 61,000 retailers so I don't think its a 'swap' type gift card?

@lawyerz: Special gives you a Mastercard credit card number, an expiry date and a CVV number.

You use it online just like you would any credit card.

              • @capslock: thanks!

              • @capslock: Really?

                That's pretty handy.

I was going to skip this, but the fact I can use anywhere is pretty good!

I imagine I can stack when there's cashback through other providers? Awesome

                  @[Deactivated]:

the fact I can use anywhere is pretty good!

You cannot use Special gift cards anywhere. Special gift cards are restricted to certain types of merchants.

If you get the Super Shopper gift card, that will cover a wide array of shopping-related merchants, so that is the preferable Special gift card to use if you want to purchase a gift card (at a discount or with cashback) from a gift card portal, or use at in-store or online shopping-related retailers to purchase goods/services.

I imagine I can stack when there's cashback through other providers? Awesome

                  I’m assuming you’re referring to Cashrewards/Shopback/Cheddar etc?

Considering Special gift cards operate on the Mastercard network, merchants will handle it just like any other card operating on the Mastercard network (assuming the merchant has not blocked prepaid Mastercard gift cards or require 3-D Secure support on any Mastercards being used on their website).

I have not heard of a merchant invalidating cashback for using specific types of Mastercards for online transactions, and GYB previously confirmed that prepaid Mastercard gift cards do not invalidate cashback for online transactions, as they will be reported as a debit/credit card.

                  • @WookieMonster: Quick summary, so this means I can purchase this special gift card and use it to buy Amazon gift card at Shopback to get additional cashback?

                    • +1

@Jared17: Yep, it will work on Shopback. (Get the Super Shopper gift card to minimise hassle.)

Alternatively, if you have access to HCF Thank You (or other platforms operated by Lifestyle Rewards), you can use a Special Super Shopper gift card as a payment method for discounted Amazon gift cards.

                      • @WookieMonster: If you spend it on HCF what do you do with the couple of dollars left over?

                        • +1

@capslock: Redeem it at a Coles or Woolworths self checkout, as Super Shopper gift cards are redeemable at supermarkets.

It seems that the company didn't like it when people were opening multiple accounts in different names. I bought all of mine in the same account using different amex cards and it was fine.

  • +1

Gift cards are to VHS what Special Cards are to DVDs.

    Talk about a dated reference!

(also, it should be Gift cards are to Special cards what VHS cassettes are to DVDs.)

I ordered a $220 card with the UNITEN coupon to make it $200 and they have cancelled my order without explanation. Never purchased from them before, weird.

    • They track users via IP address and phone numbers. If either of yours is new then maybe someone else used it previously on special.

      • I emailed asking why:

Our anti-fraud payment system encountered an issue with the email address used.

Please use another email address that you normally use for e-commerce transactions.

I use a catch-all domain so my email was [email protected]

        • +1

u got cancelled because the code

    • +1

I did the same (also never purchased before) and got an email stating my order is under review. Guessing it probably will be cancelled

    • How long did it take to get your refund back to your credit card?

      • Mine was the next day.

        • Cheers thanks. My order was immediately cancelled, I followed all the advise to make sure i was using a regular email and card used for previous ecommerce transactions…. bizarre

  • +5

Purchased, received the gift card instantly and the Amex email about a minute later. Have deposited into Bezo's account successfully

    • Same, got the gift card and amex confirmation email almost instantly. Spent on shopback super swap.

  • +2

I redeemed this offer last time, so I wasn't targeted.

  • +5

I just used this offer and then bought 2x$100 JB gift card from shopback for an extra 8% cashback

    • which card type did you choose?

  • +2

worked fine for me :) and used it for the ShopBack gift card.

  • We shouldn't hold onto these, right?

I don't know what to spend it on.

If I get a MasterCard, can I use it to book Airbnb? And the rest just spend it on Amazon on a gift card or something?

This is why I love amex! So many deals.

If you downgrade to an essential American explorer card, would I still be eligible in 18 months to sign up again for an explorer American Express and get the bonus points?

  • "Your Super Shopper Special Card order for………. is currently being reviewed. We will provide an update within 1 business day.
    Stay Special!"

    • 24 hours later and Nothing! No card, no update. What a pain in the a !

      • "Out (sic) anti-fraud payment system has cancelled the transaction and you have not been charged.
If there is a pending charge showing on your transaction history it will be released back to you.
Please use an email address that has been previously used for ecommerce transactions as the one you are using has never been used through any payment gateway."

  • Anyone else receiving a ‘this card cannot be used please contact our support’ error when trying to redeem the gift card?

  • Has anyone managed to stack with UNITEN

    • No, it didn't work with the super shopper card.

  • Anyone successfully used one of the super shopper cards on eBay ?

  • +2

Thanks OP. Got it on my main card

  • Can you use it on Airbnb?

I assume we can do seperate cards, say$150 and $50?

    Thank you

  • +1

Awesome. Managed to stack this with Shopback 15% cashback on Deliveroo gift cards to get a total of 25% off.

  • +1

Gift card used with no issues and $20 credit already showing on my Amex account.

  • Cant even pay with an Amex always comes back with there seems to be a problem with your payment method 👎👎👎 I checked the details they are correct.
