750

This popular deal is back!

Description sourced from: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711318

3 month minimum is effectively $297 for 60k QFF points (plus a SIM card you may/may not use). You may be charged a 4th month, but $396 for 60k points is still good value.

60,000 bonus Qantas Points on the $99 Qantas Promo Plan will be awarded as a one-time transfer at end of month 3 from your service activation date.

Good way to get points without signing up for another credit card.

$0 if you send them to me for free.

      • you just had to say "please" and the points were yours. offer just expired, sorry!

    • +2

Basically it depends what you use them for. This article gives some examples of flight redemptions for 60k points: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/qantas/bonus-point-offers/

If you use them for flights you should be able to get 1-1.5c per point in value (or more). For gift cards / stuff on the Qantas store, they're only worth about 0.5c per point (as others have pointed out above)

    • +2

Probably about $300 if you’re like my pal who buys things like gift cards and toasters from qantas store 😂

    • +4

I tried to get this offer last time. Optus messed up and didn't complete order. Made a complaint and said was going to use the points for return business class flight BNE - SYD. Cost me 1500. They gave a credit on a new phone for the 1500. so s22 ultra for about 400.

      • +1

        That's a true bargain!

      • Holy shit that's good I should have used that trick.

I only got $600 compo from Optus for the 60k points.

    • Return Classic flight to Philippines

  • Can you switch from another Qantas plan (e.g. $39pm) to this one and still claim the bonus points?

    • I assume no cause you already a customer

  • +3

Just a few notes for everyone.

    • You have to pay 4 months $396
    • You will have a hard credit enquiry

There are credit cards that will get you more points for a lower fee with the same impact on credit.

    • I think cc is way harder to get if you have a couple of mortgages and cc. Phone plan it doesn't ask you for your payslips and your bank statements etc.

      • If your credit is at the point you can't get a credit card you really shouldn't be doing any inquiries.

    • Hard credit if you're not an existing Optus customer**

      • -1

        Maybe, maybe not.

        • -1

Dude, internal credit check otherwise people and families signing up for plans would have wrecked credit scores.

I suggest YOU educate yourself before coming here and looking like a fool.

          • @adrianhughes1998: I am not sure why you are commenting if you don't actually have any basis for the knowledge required to comment. Optus can, and do credit checks even on existing customers in certain circumstances.

Assumptions based on your personal circumstances aren't helpful for the general population of OZB. I suggest you look into some finical advice, as you are clearly lacking the basic fundamentals.

    • If I have no previous credit history, and credit checkers indicate my score is 843, how would a hard enquiry impact me? I have the intention of securing a home loan in the upcoming 12-24mths and will be looking to secure a cc to build credit in the next few months. @Nand0sx @adrianhughes1998

      • -3

Having a credit card doesn't help your score in Australia. You will have a reduction in your score and it will take anywhere from 3-12 months to recover

        • -1

Lol a reduction of like 20 points that recovers in a month or two. I've been churning cards every 3-4 months for the last three years and it's always worked like that

          • -1

            @adrianhughes1998: Wow, so impressive

            • -1

@Nand0sx: Better than giving incorrect advice aye.

              • -1

@adrianhughes1998: The point reduction and time to recover is dependent on an individual's credit situation, your points are irrelevant. Nothing I have stated is inaccurate, I suggest you educate yourself before coming here and looking like a fool.

  • Still waiting om my sim from the last one. Might try again.

  • I signed up on the last offer and my service was activated 16/07.
My first bill was issued 29/07 for 28/07 - 27/08.
    My second bill issued 28/08 for 28/08 - 27/09
My third bill should then be 28/09 for 28/09 - 27/10.

Going by the criteria - the points are awarded on the third month of activation so I should have 60,000 points on or around 16/10 (possibly up to 7 days extra, let's say 24/10).
Giving me hopefully a spare few days before 27/10 to arrange a service cancellation and get 60,000 point for the $297. Fingers crossed!

    • +1

      Mine is similar.

Service was activated on 9/7, first invoice generated was for period 22/7/22 to 21/8/22.

That means, I was not billed for 9/7 to 21/7.

      So
      1st invoice for 22/7 to 21/8
      2nd invoice for 22/8 to 21/9
      3rd invoice for 22/9 to 21/10

90 days would be completed on 9/10 before 4th month's invoice is generated on 21/10. So I have 12 days to cancel the service or receive bonus points before cancelling the service to avoid 4th invoice.

In theory that should be what will happen (Optus give me the bonus points on 9/10 or shortly thereafter). But we’ll see what happens next month :)

      • where are you finding your billing dates? i was activated on 15/7, first charge 15/7 but can only see 1x invoice for 15/8 charge (15 Aug 22 to 14 Sep 22 period). i don't have an invoice for the first month but assume my monthly dates are in line with the 15th of each month? trying to work out when i could get the points and cancel before 4th month charge :/

        • I went to payment history in the app.
I think the only reason why my billing is from the 28th even though I activated on 16th is because I have 1 optus service (being my Ozbargain $12.50 a month galaxy tablet) which was already aligned to the 28th.

Because of your activation and first charged date you may be caught out paying 4 months. I was pretty well prepared that may be the case though as still a good deal for some extra points.

    • Keen to hear if this works out! Would be good to only pay $297 for the 60,000 points

    • +1

I signed up yesterday, and was surprised to find that my next billing cycle is 19 days away. It looks like I'll have free service until the 20th, and will be able to cancel before the fourth month bills.

I had no active Optus services, but did have a data plan (the one that was free for three months, from OzB) a while ago. Because I had an existing account, it seems to have attached this new service to my old billing cycle. Nice surprise!

    • Not in my wife's case, signed up on 2nd sept
      Sim delivered on 5th Sept
      Service activated on 5th Sept
Invoice was generated on 5th Sept
Payment was charged on 5th Sept

So no unbilled days! have no previous service from optus.

Looks like they changed the rule to charge from the date of service unless you already have a prev service with them. No way to avoid 4th invoice!!

      Anyone in similar boat?

  • Anyone know if you can still join up if your with Mobile Moose? Which utilises the Optus 4G Plus Network?

  • Anyone know if there's any restrictions on using this in a mobile router? I already have an Optus SIM in my 4G router but its through Tangerine. Good opportunity to switch for 4 months and earn the points if so.

    • Shouldn't think so cos I did that a few years ago with a SIM for tablets plan. Gonna try it on this deal and see how it goes

  • How much is 60K Qantas pts worth?

    • +1

Depends who you ask. But on here it’s about 1c/point

      • +1

via point hack its valued at 1.8c/point, flights wise around 6 flights from sydney to Melbourne or 7 flight you exclude $39 you pay each flight.

        • Officially businesses running promotions value it at 1c a point. But you can get more value out of it like you say, using it for flights

  • Can Optus prepaid users get access to this deal?

    • +1

      Yes

These plans are available to Qantas Frequent Flyer members who are adding a new Optus mobile service. If you are an existing Optus mobile customer, you are eligible to take up a new SIM Only plan e.g., sign up an additional mobile service or upgrade from a pre-paid plan.

      • So you dont need to port, i can just get new number?

        • Yes - either option - port in or new number

  • Brilliant thanks!

  • can i get an esim first, seeing the offer expires in under a week and no way I will get the sim before then, and then swap to a physical sim afterwards without voiding the offer?

    • you may need the esim activated or will need to go to an Optus store to swap your sim, carry your license for ID check.

    • You only have to place the order within the time period, activation can be later. If you want to wait for a physical SIM, you'll still be eligible for the offer.

I got an eSIM which was pretty quick (I applied late at night, got a notification to install eSIM at 8am - might have needed to wait for business hours to port the number?). I think you could get an eSIM and then later go to an Optus store and ask for a physical SIM to replace it (if you wanted one), but I haven't tried that.

      • oh really? That would be good if it's the case. I read the comment from the previous deal that they were worried not receiving the sim in time for activation.

        • +1

          Different T&Cs now:-

What is the final day that I can sign up and still get the 60,000 bonus Qantas Points?

As long as you sign up to a new service during the offer period (1st September – 5th September) and stay connected for 3 months from activation, the points will be awarded into your QFF account.

There is no requirement to receive and activate a physical SIM during the very short offer period.

$99 Qantas Promo Plan Offer: Available for Qantas Frequent Flyer members who are new or existing Optus customers adding a $99 Qantas Promo Plan between 07:00AM (AEST) 1 September to 11:59PM (AEST) 5 September 2022. Points are awarded to your account in a single instalment at the end of month 3 from your service activation date. Points are forfeited if you cancel or recontract from your Promo Plan during that period. Bonus Qantas Points may take up to 7 days from date of eligibility to appear in a members’ account. There are no ongoing Qantas Points earned per dollar spent on your monthly plan fee.Not available with other offers. Limit to one $99 Promo Plan per QFF number.

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: They did this cos so many people got stuck on that condition of needing to be activated. I was one of them and cos of the kerfuffle between online support and in store, they compensated me with $600 Optus account credit

      • You can't get a physical SIM as the Sim comes pre activated in the mail. The plan isn't even on the systems in-store.

  • +1

I don’t understand why Optus cannot refund the unused portion of your monthly fee if you port out/cancel mid month.

I just got a cheque from Telstra for unused portion of my monthly feee paid in advance.

    • I don't think Telstra does this any more. The information for their newer "Upfront" plans says:

When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won't refund any money you've already paid and you'll need to pay out any remaining devices or accessories in full when you cancel.

Telstra is the king of grandfathering though, so if your plan predates the shift to "Upfront", you'd be on the old system and would therefore get a pro-rated refund.

  • Question for those who got this last time - Do you know if international roaming works on this plan ?

    • You can buy a roaming pass for $5 a day I believe

    • confirmed yes from my friend

  • can you opt for new number instead of porting?

  • Anyone able to figure out if you can use this plan to number share with cellular Apple Watch? Can't find anything on the Optus website so far.

    • +1

      Asked rep, they said yes

      • Thanks very much, appreciate that!

  • I tried to use this deal last time, Optus didn't do anything, literally didn't port me and never heard from again.

    Here goes another attempt.

  • Oh it says 20,000 points now :(

  • +2

Good old Floptus - run a limited time promotion and then take your ordering system down in the middle of it! After all who would possibly want to actually order it before it expires. At the moment you can only proceed if you go through the whole process of opening a new account and providing the ID check info - as opposed to logging into your existing Optus account which does not require re-entering all your data
Sadly so typical of Optus. Here's the error message when trying to log into my Optus account
"Sometimes we need to update our systems to continue to give you the best experience.
We're working on that right now and My Account will be unavailable between 5:45pm Sunday– 7:30am Monday (AEST)"

    • is anyone able to sign up?

      • I did this morning.

        • still wouldn't let me sign up via an existing user. Had to setup a new user to sign up.

  • Do you just need to start the port now or does it have to be completed before tonight?

    • Apparently, they automatically ported my sim without asking me as soon as it was marked delivered, bunch of mongrels at optus.

  • Optus is a joke can't wait to get the points and cancel, they started the service by themselves just as the sim arrived without me doing anything. Made me have no cell coverage at work until I went home to put new sim.

    • First world problems pal lol

    • It is annoying and stupid, but the automatic activation was mentioned in one of their text messages about delivery of the SIM.

      https://www.optus.com.au/for-you/support/answer?id=8904

      Postpaid physical SIM cards

I've purchased my SIM online or over the phone:

      • Your SIM card will automatically activate within 4 hours of receiving it
      • Checked the 2 txt messages i got and not amention of that at all.

  • Anybody got the points yet

    • +1

It’s going to be 3 months before anyone gets the 60,000 points from this deal in September
But even for the earlier offer in July I haven’t seen anyone reporting that the points have landed for that deal. I just paid the third monthly fee on one of those plans so watching carefully to see when they land so I can cancel before another billing cycle

      • Yeah I just paid for the 3rd month too. Gosh have to wait another 3 months.

Can we cancel the plan now and just wait?

        • +1

No - if you cancel the plan before the points drop then Optus are not obliged to give the 60,000 points under their T&Cs
When you say you have to wait another 3 months I assume you mean for the second offer to drop - the first offer should drop within the next month

    • Yes, just landed in my Qantas FF account today, 2 days before the 4th billing date. Just cancelled my service with Optus via live chat so I am not charged for a 4th month.

      • Haven’t gotten the points yet and just been chaeged

  • +1

Has anyone found ways to avoid 4th bill with Optus Pause?

  • +1

I'm guessing nobody has got their points yet?

    • +1

next bill in 11 days and still wait for the points lol

    • People from the first offer in July may start getting their points around now.
My activation was 16/07 so I'm waiting for after 16/10.

  • Yup waiting here as well from the first round offer; now 16 days after the 4th bill was charged, no points yet. When I tried online chat (lucky to even get any human response at the moment) they said that they were not trained in the offers and asked me to speak to Qantas. In store, they said that they couldn’t do anything either.

    • Is anyone actually lodging complaints with Optus and telecommunication ombudsman?

Or we all just moaning on forums? Seen a lot of others in same boat and nobody got any points.

    • +1

The T&C's stated 3 months from activation and it wasn't tied to billing…. given that the offer was on in the first and second week of July, 3 months from activation for everyone is just rolling around now.
It is strange that you would have had a 4th bill in September when it's only just reached 3 months since the offer.

  • Mine was activated on 15/7/22, I have made 3 payments so far with next due in a few days however no points yet however due 15/10/22 I would say

    • Did you get yours?

      • No, they haven't credited yet

  • +2

Seems extra7days wait for points to arrive
