[Prime, SUBS] Lord of The Rings - Rings of Power @ Prime Video

30246

This is unlike other SUB deals posted here, because this show is the biggest thing coming to streaming this year! And like 90% of Ozbargain has PRIME so no one should complain about having to pay to watch this!

Description:
Beginning in a time of relative peace, we follow an ensemble cast of characters as they confront the re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

LOTR haters can stay away from this post please :)

two years ago today, you wouldn't believe people go mad for news like that.

      • +1

I was happy that I could buy coke then.

  • +11

Its not a deal, don't be scared into saying so either by others. It really does go against the whole OZB theme, if you already have the streaming service, then its an included "extra" its not a bargain. Sad that OZB is ok with this dilution of the definition of a bargain.

And yes, I've filtered these, but that's irrelevant.

    • -1

don't be scared into saying so either by others

      lol wtf

  • +5

As a bit LOTR fan I had not even heard about this series, nor seen countless ads about it. Thanks for providing a way for me to check on upcoming releases.

    • +7

As a big LOTR fan, you don't what to know about it.

  • +4

I'm a proponent of allowing the SUBS to pop up as deals, but this is the first time this is being screened. Unlike cinema movies, that I may hold off buying a Blu-ray because I've noticed a SUBS deal pop up, I don't feel this unscreened series really serves as anything beyond a reminder, and certainly isn't a "deal". It's not saved me any money.

  • +3

Anyone know if they are changing lore and the world to make it woke like so many other sci-fi / fantasy series of late?

    • Probably.
      That too is marketing.

      • +1

Such a shame so many of them have gone down that route. Some of my favourite books and been waiting decades for it to come to TV /movies and then to find them ruining it to the point where i cant watch it.

    • +2

      100% they are.

The Critical Drinker on youtube provides commentary on the trailers.

      • -1

Does it go something like "hurr durr I'm a very serious critic the message hurr durr"?

Sorry, I just realised that could've been any of his videos

        • +2

I don't know why you're so enraged that someone criticised the show.
It's not that big a deal. It's just a tv show.

Are you afraid to watch a single video because you are afraid of hearing uncomfortable truths?

          • +1

            @Muten-Roshi:

            I don't know why you're so enraged

Who's enraged? Not me! I get an awesome show I'm pretty sure I'll love!

Whereas you'll get to enjoy sliding further into irrelevance while seeking validation from some YT loser who's…also sliding further into irrelevance

Are you afraid to watch a single video

I think I've made a compelling case that if you've seen one insecure white dude whining about "the message" you've seen them all

            Happy Friday! Enjoy the show!

            • +2

              @GrueHunter: Have fun! :)

Who am I to say what you can waste precious minutes of your life doing.
My dog laid a turd on the grass the other day. I think you'd also enjoy watching that too.

    • +1

Having a few non-white actors only ruins a show for racists.

Bad writing, on the other hand… that's universal.

      • +2

I mean in needs to still work in the context of story.
It wouldn't make sense to cast a Celtic person in a story set in Polynesia or put a Chinese as a French revolutionary.
I feel that sometimes forced diversity is a way out of lazy writing. If anyone criticises a character, they can just put them in the racist or sexists or whatever bin

    • +2

Yes, yes they are. Check out any youtube video on this show and you will see how they are injecting woke culture into this.

      • I can't imagine being triggered by seeing a black person in a movie. Like what kind of snowflake Karen man babies are we raising that you'd get upset about seeing a black dwarf in a fantasy tv show?

        • +4

bro there was a pretty highly upvoted post here a while back about the "new world order" and dastardly "global elites" forcing everyone to eat cockroaches or some shit, so I probably wouldn't go to ozbargain for.. uh.. nuanced and balanced opinions

        • +1

Fair enough and I don't really care either but I don't think you are looking deeply enough into why fans of the content are having issues with them injecting woke culture in a fantasy series that was fairly specific about certain things like that.

          • -1

@dogboy: They're insecure and afraid of everything that isn't like them? They have no worthwhile skills or talents of their own and if people start making a world where being white and male isn't enough they won't have anything at all?

            Was that deep enough?

        • +4

They're getting triggered by the disrespect the cast are having to the fans and the source material.
They're getting mad that they're twisting a deeply allegorically Christian story (e.g Gandalf was like a stand in for Jesus), with themes of duty, love for one's friends, country and neighbours, self-sacrifice, and twisting it to be about sex and violence just to copy Game of Thrones.
GoT was already inspired by LotR.

It's media PR to try and shift the narrative to dismiss all criticism as the work of racists etc. Because it allows their product to enter the market strongly, get the initial viewing numbers high, regardless of the quality and timelessness of the work. And they're panicking because they invested $1B, so it's easier to blame the fans.

          • @Muten-Roshi: Fans: RESPECT MUH AUTHORITAH

Bezos: lol it's my money I'll do what I want, deal

        • +6

I am a dark skinned person and yes I hate it when they try to push woke crap by changed characters or genders or sexuality to the point where it makes no sense. And I find it insulting when people only use the term racist or sexist when they want something to benefit them but dont fight against it on the other side when it will have a negative to them. Hollywood is not the only Movie industry, there are other massive industries out there from India, China, etc. I dont see the same people fighting for those industries to have more White people in there.

Those industries are far less diverse than Hollywood but people only complain one way and not the other and That is the biggest insult to me since i have suffered from racism all my life. Because that to me means these people are only complaining to get some benefit to them but not actually fighting against racism itself. I hate racism in every way, I fight for it when people are racist towards others regardless of if that race is my race being the victim or the aggressor.

Some of my favourite movies like the Alien series had strong Black or female characters including the main hero, but they werent made to be unbelievable or mary-sues…. These days the characters made in woke shows are totally unbelievable and go out of their way in the middle of combat or an important dialogue to make some social commentary that doesnt fit the plot at all.

And there are so many stories from history or fiction that will already have characters that can fit whatever woke narrative you want, so go do them, Dont take a great story or plot that already has lore and canon behind it and then change everything about it to suit your woke storyline.

        • +3

Because there are no black dwarves in middle earth. Sorry if that triggers you

    • +2

and the characters…Behold Galadriel the She-Warrior!

  • +7

Not a deal, move it to forums!

  • +12

This show is made for streaming, nobody has ever paid for it separately, it's definitely no bargain

    • Exactly! I don't agree with the movie posts of this kind either. But a TV show that was always meant to come to streaming first coming to streaming!? Why is this being posted as a deal? At least the movies were in the cinema first.

  • +2

    US$58M per episode, AU$85M, AU$0.65B for 8 eps.

Someone show Bezos how to bargain hunt.

    • +1

You need to add the $250m for IP.

  • How many episodes will ‘drop’ tomorrow?

    • +1

2, then weekly, so should line up with HotD.

  • +6

If this is the biggest thing on TV this year pretty sure it'll be the first thing I see when I open prime.

Why the need to announce it here?

  • +8

Here for the comments by those who get triggered by these posts :D

    • I am so angry right nows

Not even one person that comes out of the well and into your tv

    • +3

The upvoters to spite the downvoters are even more sad

    • there's no changing these bozos' minds for a show they haven't even watched yet, lmao

  • +2

Final trailer was impressive. Will give it the benefit of the doubt before I default to having a sook about it. If it’s no good, won’t keep watching, otherwise I’m keen.. surely most people are the same.

    • +4

I will give it the doubt of benefit

  • +5

Common stop with this. This should not be on the home page.

  • +5

    This is ridiculous. Stop.

    • noscopedJFK used WHINE!

      It's not very effective

      • +1

Username doesn't check out (Zork, not Pokemon!) but funny anyway.

However, this is a complete non-deal, merely a passing source of amusement for us bystanders observing the swift passage to obscurity of this garbage corporate half-arsed attempt to avoid offending anyone.

        • -1

An awful lot of triggered dudes here looking pretty offended for "amused bystanders"

          Enjoy the show!

          • +1

@GrueHunter: You’re the triggered dude responding to literally every post lmao

  • +2

expectation are low for this one

  • Looking forward to this, still haven't found anything good since Peaky Blinders / Game of Thrones.

    • +1

Gangs of London…hanging for season 2

      • +1

Smashed the first series, love it! Many familiar faces from GOT and PB, especially Lady Stark and John Shelby. Am now waiting for series 2. Cheers for the recommendation ;)

        • +1

Awesome! Really glad you enjoyed it.

  • +5

No price in title . It's not free.
    $6.95 to watch

    • +1

I doubt there's many people who don't have prime already on this site. So no need for payment. Been looking forward to this show since last year.

  • +2

Is this a new Issekai Anime?

  • +1

I'm a huge LOTR fan… but I'm really not excited about it. I really wish I was though and I hope to be proven wrong.

  • +6

Downvoting because you think this is any different to any of the numerous other streaming posts.

Tis all the same shit. If I want to know what's cool and new coming to [streaming service], I'll Google it. I come for bargains, not TV recommendations.

  • +4

Casting my first downvote as, though I am looking forward to the show, this post belongs in the forums and is not a "bargain" or deal of any sort.

  • +3

    Not sure Ozbargain or Oztvshowannoucementnoonereallycaresabout

  • +3

This post is The Lord of OzAnnouncement

  • +4

This isn't LOTR. LOTR was gold. This is trash.

  • +6

I already have a prime sub but this show looks like it might be pretty dodgy. Beats me why you would pay hundreds of millions of dollars for the rights and then get amatuer hacks to rewrite Tolkien's work!!! To top it off, they have just invented most of it going against what was written. Hope i'm wrong but the signs are bad

  • -1

Sorry OP, this post inconvenienced me so much that I'm both late to work AND family dinner. I've lost my end of year bonus and all of my pillows are warm. I wish there was a way for me to avoid sub posts because now my day is lost

OzBargain pls build in an easy method for this, and post the method on each of these posts please

  • +1

While I'm reasonably indifferent to the whole posting of SUBS deals, I do find it funny that it's so much more controversial than the never ending "PS5 in stock for RRP" posts we had for a while. Neither are deals, both are just giving people up to date information yet only one of them rustles so many jimmies.

  • +1

As the LOTR fan, this new LOTR has a big shoe to fill in. I am not too confident. The LOTR and Hobbit movies are now legends. And leegnds donot die. They are looked upon.

    • +3

I thought the hobbit movies sucked in general for the fandom.

It was like Star wars prequels.

      • It was not that bad. The story telling was pretty good.

    • -1

And leegnds donot die. They are looked upon.

      wut

  • +7

Sorry but I just don't see why this is being posted on the Deals page

  • -5

Upvoting just to annoy the down voters. If I see a post I'm not interested in, I just use my scroll wheel and bypass it.

And I'm looking forward to seeing this series. I just love all the people who are so upset about a show when they haven't even watched it yet.

  • +1

I love LOTR but this not a sale…

  • +1

I'm not a huge LOTR fan although I've read the books and seen the movies (ages ago ironically).

But I've immensely enjoyed watching all the discourse online leading up to this series' release.

And I look forward to watching more discourse after the show is finally out and everyone has seen it.

  • +5

Not a deal. How are other posts banned and this is allowed.

    • +3

cause they can do whatever they want

  • +2

    Go go Power Rings
    Go go Power Rings
    Go go Power Rings
    You mighty morphin' Lord Rangers

    • +3

      It's Mordorin' Time

  • +10

As much as I love LotR, this site has some serious moderation problems

  • I'm here for the neg comments.

  • +3

The biGgeSt tHinG coming to streaming

According to you. I'd say Top Gun 2 would surpass this steaming billion dollar pile of woke garbage.

    • +3

      woke garbage

      wym?

      • +5

it's the latest buzzword used by outrage enthusiasts

  • +10

    wOke of the Rings !!!

    • +3

I've been going pretty well in my life so far from ignoring, and usually just assuming the opposite, of any opinion which includes "!!!" unironically

      • +1

        Sneed

        • Says the guy being owned by the very idea of imaginary black people

          • +1

@GrueHunter: It's not owned when you don't give a shit about lord of the rings or black people, though!!!"!!!"

  • +17

nothing about this show is Tolkien

    • -7

Because it has non-white characters who are not orcs, eastern-men etc?

      • +19

incorrect timeline .. Galadriel turned into a warrior princess … forced diversity … and possibility of nudity …amazon prime wanting to turn it into GOT..
fyi I am not white ..

    • +2

I never met the dude, so I wouldn't assume to know that.

    • +2

      consider it fan-fiction or satire.
It's not worth getting angry over.
(It's worth temporarily unsubscribing from prime on release day however)

  • +2

ppl just can't deal the fact amazon had alot of money to throw in the wind? or just can't accept others having different opinion to them?

    • +2

Amazon doesn't like opinion either, hence why they disabled reviews on their platform.

  • +6

I was living under a rock and this show took me by surprise.

So I started googling about it and I saw that it is getting review bombed everywhere even before release and the main reason I saw being listed were that it was supposedly "woke" and not staying true to Tolkien's work I guess. Amazon will spend close to a billion on this based on their plans.

I will give it a shot before coming to any conclusion though.

    • +1

Hoooold on, why you being so sensible?
