Wouldn't the WDTV Live still be a better option? They seem comparable but WD has the support and firmware maturity although it does cost another $40 odd more than this, maybe that's the main difference?

  • Can this stuff support read movie files stored in the portable hard drive directly? And how about the support to subtitle file?

  • The best alternative would be a Roku player from Amazon for $85AUD shipped.

  • Buy a blu-ray player that can stream as well, approx. same price.

    • Nah, with wifi built in,the blu ray player will double that price.

    • And network connectivity - in a Blu-Ray Player for $80? You're dreaming LOL

  • It doesn't mention H.264. That's a downer.

    • Pretty sure AVC is H.264, so it should play it.

  • Can it be used for video conferencing i.e Skype with webcam?

    • +1

Ummm… this is a media player. Video Conferencing / Skype is best done using a computer or otehr communications device, not a movie player.

  • Can an LG Smart TV use this for the internet connection, or will you just end up using this and ignoring the Smart TV's built-in functions to connect to the net? The LG Smart TV only has an USB port (I think) and ethernet port to be internet "ready".

    • No, I don't think this has any symbiosis with a smart TV's capability with connecting to or browsing the net.

Also, the deal is expired - out of stock.
