Segment your $300 shop to ten $30 shops for more coffee?

  • +2

    *Small

    • You'd think they could at least give a free regular coffee!!

    • +18

Go ahead mate … who’s stopping you.

    • +13

The Coles Express coffee is actually pretty tasty.
But perhaps your piss is extra special too.

      • Unlike 7-11 you have the option to choose strong which I really like and now 7-11 are gonna up there prices I'll likely choose to drive the extra 3 minutes lol
I'm surprised $1 coffee lasted as long as it did but I reckon Coles will match 7-11 fairly quickly, look how fast all the supermarkets including Aldi upped milk prices after Coles did less than a week if memory serves.
But A++++++ for the strong coffee option, I love it!

  • +5

    Rip 7-11

  • +2

Don't know if you'll get me driving to a Coles Express with a 4c voucher just to claim a $1 coffee… it would have to be really close otherwise cost of fuel to get there will kill the deal - if I decide to go there to actually fill up and pump more than 25L fuel, the coffee will end up costing more than the savings you get from using it to discount the fuel… strange offer.

    • +1

Some people have more docket than they need.

      • +1

Like way more if you buy giftcards.

        • Not sure if it'll count 3rd party giftcard purchase as digital fuel docket is a new thing.

          • +1

@Neoika: I dont see why not. It is just a digital version of the old paper docket afterall.

            • @truetypezk: For more coffee, some people may make separate transactions for promotional 3rd party giftcards.

              • @Neoika: I always end up with a shitload of dockets when gift cards are on sale without intentionally splitting more than necessary. People who dont buy as much surely benefit by splitting if they dont mind cheapo coffees.

          • +1

@Neoika: Yes I got them for buying the Restaurant card.

    • It works for some people, e.g. live or work near one, do not need fuel but can be near one. There are some locations that are really close to train stations in NSW.

      • +1

I ride my bike (exercise) during weekends to 7-11 because of chopper😉, and sometimes I don't have a voucher so this will give me an extra option rather than paying $2😁

  • +2

Perfect timing with 7-Eleven doubling their coffee prices…

    • Generally speaking you may still be better off fuel price wise at 7 Eleven with faking your location to get the best fuel prize Australia-wide already factoring in the coffee price increase.

  • I've got 4 or 5 Shell Coles Express on my routes. The cheaper one doesn't accept fuel voucher nor Flybuys.
Others accept both are more than 4c expensive.
The cheapest recently are Woolworths ones who's competing with 3 other petrol stations, all within 1km of a busy intersection. Woolworths 4c make it cheapest and I can pay with egiftcards.

  • +1

Does Coles express coffees allow you to manually select how many short blacks/shots before topping up with milk? Are they as stingey with the coffee as 7-Eleven?

    • +4

no, but they have 3 strength settings - weak, regular, strong.

      • +1

Good coz 7-11 always underfill the cup, and I have to press an extra short black anyway…

        • I press hot water - you could try doing that instead.

          • @drfuzzy: No like the $1 is not strong enough and theres literally enough room for an extra shot. I used to press the $2 which just fills it before I found this trick.

      • I only recently found out about their strength options! Now I always choose them over SevLev if there's one close because as many others have pointed out 7-11 has an ongoing issue with strength and cups not completely filling. I guess we shouldn't be too fussy at $1 but none the less it's a factor.
Let's hope Coles keeps the $1 coffees as incentive for purchasing there other items with huge margins.

  • Interesting… fuel for car or fuel for brain. I guess it makes sense for people who either don't have cars, or don't have any interest in paying the Coles Express premium for petrol in order to utilise the 4c discount. For me, I've been going independent 80% of the time thanks to the various fuel price tracking apps out there which in the current climate, can be a 15-20c difference for a 10 minute drive out of the city.

    • +2

You can of course use 7-Eleven to lock in and get the 20c difference from your local store🙂

  • +1

Finally, something for people who don't drive. Have a conveniently located Coles Express I can utilise this at. Thanks OP

  • What happens to the coffee if the $30 purchase is refunded after you've drank it?

    • Nothing will happen.

    • They’ll extract it back from your body using advanced technologies.

    1. If you activate the offer in app, your future qualifying shops at Coles will NOT give you a paper docket, as the offer will be loaded on to the app.
    2. You do NOT need to purchase fuel to avail the coffee or whatever in-store offer is in place.
    3. Combining 1 and 2 above, this means if you can simply pick up a random paper invoice with a fuel docket attached, you can pay for fuel first with the paper docket to get 4 cents off, then go back and scan your Flybuys card/app to redeem the coffee.
    4. Once redeemed, the in-app offer will disappear and you will need to shop at least $30 again at Coles to get a new in-app offer which will need to be activated again.
    5. When you activate the in-app offer, you do NOT choose whether you want the coffee or 4 cents off fuel. You choose by telling the staff when you visit the servo.
    • +1

Nice, I just redeemed my coffee today, if I spend $30 again at Coles do I have to activate the offer again? Also can I accumulate the number of $30 shops e.g. during the weekdays and use in weekends or is it get one use one?

      • +1

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you can accumulate the shops, they will then need to be individually activated in the Flybuys app.

  • I got like 18 dockets stacked up on flybuys.
Does this mean that I'd get 18 cups of coffee? XD

  • Better than 7/11 coffee. I've found that Coles itself will still charge $2.50 for a large instead of $3.

    • Good tip, don't bother going for $2 or $3 options, countless studies showed that $1 is always better value as it contains more drink per $1

      • 100% I put in 2x $1 coffees into my keepcup/travel mug and it almost fills completely yet a $3 "large" is about 2cm less.

        • Do they only charge $1 for your keepcups even though it's larger than their $3 cups??

  • +1

Be warned. In-store flybuys offers are rarely accepted in my experience at Coles shell service stations. I've had arguments with attendants, although the app says no fuel purchase necessary, they will insist. Then when you put $5 in and it still doesn't work they'll say it was.your fault

    • +2

Well just say I filled up my coffee already, it's going in my mouth or the bin😂

    • +1

Same has happened to me. I've stopped going there. I've even given them the fuel discount voucher and they say it wont scan. Another time I asked them for the 8x points rather then the 4c off and they gave me the 4c off. The staff just don't listen. It's happened multiple times!

  • +2

4c off OR 8 points per litre OR free small coffee.

Technically you are trading 4c voicher for a $ 1 coffee.

    • +2

I prefer free coffee and get fuel elsewhere

  • Long live 7-11 $1 coffee

    • It's already in palliative care with only weeks to live, already called in the best medical experts for second opinions and all agree it's days are numbered ;(
The only option now is religion lol
Unless we could convince a huge % of people to stop buying their petrol at 7-11 because they can no longer get cheap coffee but alas I don't think most people care that much!
That being said "LONG LIVE $1 SEVLEV COFFEE!!!!"

      • If you do chopper services then it's technically still free😉

  • +1

Apparently it seems after 9 free coffees redeemed you can also get a 10th free coffee! I think it could be anything of your choice from their coffee menu.

  • +3

Not sure why my local couldnt press the right buttons to redeem? Kept insisting it was with fuel purchase even though it says its not required?

    • +2

Yes, it's happening to me at least 4 differents Coles Express when I redeem my free small coffee. The attendants didn't even know how to redeem it. At last, I just scan my flybuys card and wait a little bit longer, I think their system will appear a option with free small coffee option without fuel purchase.

      • +1

Click the coffee icon in the offer and popup window shows: No fuel purchase required.

        • Is that on their screen? She just says its not working (after i scan flybuys) and says to call flybuys 🙄

          • @Rain Cloud: Flybuys App.

            • @Neoika: Oh yeah i see that. I did show her the t&c's that said no purchase required but she just said its not making it free on my screen and shrugged

              • +1

@Rain Cloud: I called flybuys on a previous offer (it's been live on the app in WA for 6 months or so) after the attendant gave me the same answer. Even after I showed her both the t&C's and the screen. After 30 minutes on hold they said it's a Coles express issue, and they can't see their system. Call Coles. I gave up.

                • @Ozbargainasaurus: Maybe ask the attendant to accept it before fill the coffee cup.

If it works @ one location, it should work later with whoever serves you. It can also be the issue that the system is due for an update.

                • @Ozbargainasaurus: Yeah same. Did you ever try again?

                  • +1

@Rain Cloud: I did at the same store the following day, with different attendant, no success again. Gave up after that.

                • +1

@Ozbargainasaurus: Same here. Complained to Flybuys and Coles Express and both blamed each other.

  • +3

They could offer ten free coffees….
    …sounds great, Coles are awesome.

Except, if you can't claim it, wouldn't matter if it was 100 free coffee's

  • +2

Tried to claim the free coffee in two different coles servos and rejected both times. The attendant says it is not showing up when the card is scanned.

    • +1

Redeemed it successfully today. Attendant needs to click Pay and then Approve to use it after you scan the flyubuys. It is similar to a Coles Financial Service Customer redeeming 2k pts at Coles, if you have the experience.

More detailed guide will be added to OP later.

      • Thanks heaps Neoika. Now we need to teach them how to do their job.

  • They scan the card and then have to select an option on their end to choose the free coffee

Does this work for teas or hot milk? How much do they usually cost at coles express?

  • So I facebook messaged Coles express to ask them about it re my local coles express servo. They replied 2 weeks later that they should honour it now. Went in today, she asked to read the T&C's then told me to go get a coffee, but didnt try to scan anything.

    • Attendant needs to click Pay and then Approve to use it after you scan the flyubuys, since some people may opt for fuel discount later. I provided answer above.

      • No, she didnt try. Like she didnt want to. And told me to just get the coffee and go.

        • I did not view the screen directly, but it seems similar to CFS 10$ off at Coles if you have used it.

          • +1

@Neoika: I dont know. She just didnt bother trying and gave me the coffee for free after reading it.

            • @Rain Cloud: The attendant who served me is not familiar with it, either. But it worked in the end so that I shared the correct way to redeem it.

              • +1

@Neoika: Thanks. I'll use it if they try and are struggling next time. I'd actually prefer if they did scan it though, because I have about 5 vouchers to use and dont want them to think i keep going in with one voucher and redeeming it over and over (as they dont scan) and seem like im taking advantage of it

                • @Rain Cloud: just to clarify… did she not try to scan and just gave u the free coffee to get the helloutta there?

              • +1

@Neoika: Hey just wanted to let you know i went back and it worked! They said no one told them how to do it

      • I wish the vouchers disappeared after using so id know how many i have left!

        • Yes, it does disappear.

          • @Neoika: Oh wait it did lol. I have too many and lost count.

            • +1

@Rain Cloud: Still having grief trying to claim despite telling them how to do it. Anyway gave up using mine and they do disappear without use after the end date

              • @naruto128: OK, it is possible that your local store may use an old product code for the small coffee that does not match the intended code. It is like you've picked up the wrong product. Use it at another location.

FYI, the receipt shows 'Fuel Product Disc -$1.00' on it.

A step further info if you want to sort out the cause of it: my local store advertises the free coffee offer on the facade. Check yours out.

  • +1

Getting a free coffee from this has been a painful experience. Go digital they say. Ffs

  • I have 3 4c offers in my flybuys app. Can I use all 3 when I fill up? 12c off

    • Can someone having 50 vouchers redeem a fill-up for free?

      • There could be a limit to like 3 or 4 offers per transaction. Previously we were able to stack seperate 4c/8c offers to get like 10-20c off.

        • Different sources.

  • just notice this deal, try at local coles express, indian attendant insist I need to buy something to get free coffee, I show him t&c and he still refuse to scan unless I buy something. doggy.

    • +1

There is free coffee ad in the two stores I went. Point it out to the attendant. It is still a new thing to some staff unfortunately.

  • Can you get the free coffee with a physical 4c fuel discount docket or do you need to have it on the app?

  • Price is $1.50 now, saving $1.50.

    • +1

Of course the price went up. Coles are hurting after their 1billion dollar profit this year.
