I think the dryers are made in Poland while the washing machines are Germany.

We just bought this one last month.. so far, works fine. Has a 5 year warranty

I got a series 8 9kg for $1144 last year. It's made in Poland. Pretty happy. The sensor doesn't work with small loads and slightly damp clothes. But the efficiency and no steam output is great! Needed to upgrade my washer so had to get a bosch to stack. The washer is whisper quiet and impressive so far. Think my next purchase will be a bosch dishwasher.

I love a good heatpump drier discussion.

  • +1

On the subject of dryers, would anyone know (especially from experience) if Heat Pump dryers can be safely used with an extension cord on a permanent basis? Manual states 1300w power draw.

    TIA

    • Yes, 1300W is 5 amps. All extension cords in Australia need to be able to transfer 10A.

    • Not ideal, you would want a suitably rated extension lead, not the cheap ones and a modern safety switch circuit breaker on the house.

      • +1

Have you seen any 5amp extension leads? What circuit breakers can't support a 5amp appliance?

    • +1

1300w isn't a high load, I wouldn't worry about using an extension lead at all - but I also wouldn't use a cheap skinny lead either.

      • +1

Yep, thats what I thought that 1300w shouldn't be too much of a load to be concerned about however some commentators seem to claim that for dryers, extension cord shouldn't be used for extended duration as it poses a risk of electrical fire. In fact, almost all clothes dryer manual seems to state the same against using extension lead for reasons above. But understandably, manufacturers must be doing this to cover their bases and prevent customers from claiming warranty should the worst transpire.

Maybe a sparky or someone who has used an extension lead powering a dryer for considerable amount of time without any issues could enlighten us more on this?

        • That's because normal none-heatpump driers draw way more power.
An extension lead with a basic drier probably is a bad idea. It's only the heatpump models that have the lower draw…

  • Around the price range? Almost double the price of the Esatto/Stirling heat pump

Definitely understand your comment, but in OP’s defence: I’d looked about a week ago and I think the only availability for Essato/rebrand was from Bunnings for over $800 delivered. I think the highest price in the range (as OP was referring to) was over $1K.

There have also been comments on OzB about those machines not lasting very long too, so we pulled the trigger on the Bosch too. Ordered today and they are delivering tomorrow

      • Ordered today and they are delivering tomorrow

Caught me off guard too. I was expecting a week or two - plus some sort of booking process.

I received SMS shortly after saying it'll be on the truck tomorrow.

    From the specs:
    Reverse tumble action: No

  • +2

Didn't have the room in apartment for a dryer - thought about getting a combo washer/dryer but reviews were dicey - decided to go with a dehumidifier in the laundry room - dries a load of washing (bone-dry) in under 5 hours for a total of 1.65kWh (40c of electricity). Has the advantage of using the dehumidifier in other rooms during a humid summer.

    • If you have the space, why not both… the heat pump dryer is good for sheets / if you have limited line drying space. Perfect for fluffy towels.

    O Kurwa

  • Purchased WTW87564AU earlier in the year. Can't fault it. Set it to 'mix' mode and items come out try in just over an hour.

  • Been looking for a heat pump dryers and it seems most Bosch ones dont have reverse tumble and may tangle more than usual for larger items like sheets and covers.

    • I've got an Electrolux. Using cottons and selecting reverse tumble and extra dry, a fitted queen sheet, top sheet and 2 pillow cases dry perfectly and DO NOT end up in a ball

      • Thanks, it seems like Electrolux dryer is one of the best for everyday use from the posts i've seen on OzB.

        • I'm very happy with mine. There is a setting that changes how dry each pre set dryness level dries to. Once you change it to the maximum, it works vey well. I live in a cold climate and my laundry is very cold. The dryer does create a very small amount of humidity in the room but I leave the laundry sliding door open a couple of centimetres and that stops it. It will be interesting when the weather is slightly warmer to see if the humidity still happens. Having said that, it doesn't create anywhere near as much humidity as my old Asko condenser dryer

  • Which of the good brands DO have reverse tumble?

    • Electrolux reverse tumble. I have one. Its great. Dries perfectly, however it does allow a very small amount of dampness into a cold laundry. This may be different if the laundry was warmer (my laundry is quiet often under 10 degrees)

  • FYI Appliances Online doesn't pricematch with their Ebay Store

  • Don't forget in SA you can get a rebate on these things. This unit looks like $403.00 off. You can use it for online orders but "must be able to demonstrate delivery to address in SA". It might be worth calling YESS to confirm you can use this eBay deal from Appliances Online, I do know that buying direct from Appliances Online is fine.

  • I had an Esatto returned under warranty after 1.5 years due to a motor issue.

Ended up getting this exact model from Home Clearance for $1040. It' missing packaging, had scratches and was missing the drain hose. The scratch was minor and not noticable. For the drain hose, I just grabbed a clear tube from bunnings and it works fine.

I would say this model has much better built quality, material used are a lot nicer to touch compared to Esatto. It is also very energy efficient, drying a full load uses ~0.7kwh in summer. I feel the drying time is a little longer compared to Esatto, but it was not an issue for me.

Why have they stopped making in Germany, that was the main selling point.

If you are going to make on Poland your most well make on SE Asia

    • +1

Lots of appliances are made in Poland. My Electrolux heat pump is made in Poland too

  • My vented Electrolux just died so I’ve been researching dryers. Although this one is more efficient than the Esatto, given the purchase price difference it’ll take about 10 years to earn back the difference

$423 difference in purchase, but only costs $42 less per year to run. That’s based on using everyday too

  • our essatto heat pump is still consistently doing about 10 loads a week since we bought it about 18months ago.. that’s around 700-800 loads and hasn’t missed a beat.

Great value. It’s under warranty for another 18 months too!

  • Would anyone know if this model (WTR85T00AU) comes with a drainage hose, and how long? (Some resources say it doesn't, but that confounds me.)

  • +1

Side note, not 100% related to this deal. But seeing as everyone is talking about washers as well.
bought a bosch idos washing machine and dryer. (Wasn't cheap!)

Front door seal on our washing machine got damaged, thing started spewing out water.

Boche wanted 150 for the seal and was going to send someone out for 200 to fix it… bit disappointing after 3 years to be up for another 300 bux…

Apparently seals going is quite common…

Anyways bought another genuine seal for 100 and installed it myself. Good as new.. but yeah, don't know how it only lasted a few years… our last washing machine lasted 20 years.

    • +1

I use only normal washing detergent, best is liquid directly mix in the clothes, not into the drawer.

Don’t add much of other stuff like vinegar etc. :)
Some chemical stuff would make the rubber give way when mix with warmer water etc.

    • We saw a common theme of seal problems and expensive repairs too while researching for a new Bosch to replace our 12year old Bosch washing machine that we were happy with before it died. One of the review articles we saw had rated Bosch #1 in reliability while saying in the same article they were aware of a jump in faults in Bosch's newer models compared to older ones. Guess their older models had kept them ranked #1. We decided to try a different brand for our new one.

Do you know how your seal got damaged? Some ppl reported that water would leak out of their Bosch washing machine seal from new without wear, as though it was a design flaw or a weak seal from the start.

  • Protip, when this inevitably stops drying properly, gently clean the metal moisture sensor with white vinegar and it should start working properly again.

Also run it on cotton, cupboard+ dryness if you actually want dry clothes.

With those tweaks, this is a great unit.

  • I have an AEG heat pump. These things are amazing. Wife complains it doesn't dry the clothes properly but it does.

    User error as always

    • Just bought an AEG dryer. Our 17 year old Asko condensor died so hoping it's decent.

    • AEG are very good. Electrolux dryers are based on AEG's but with less features. You can also purchase an extended warranty through Electrolux to make the warranty 5 years for about $170

  • +1

seems to be best price currently for a heat pump dryer around that price range

Well, Bosch Marketing should really try harder. They could increase profits by bumping up the price - it would then have the best price in the higher price range too.

  • This is a great price!!

I got a Haier heat pump from the gold guys for just over $1k, really good and dries quickly as well and does reverse tumble.

  • Just wondering if anyone tested the Samsung smart AI one here? Not sure between Electrolux, Samsung and Bosh series 8.

    • -1

Bosch or Electrolux, with appliances, Samsung is generally a no-go imo.

      • I've just started looking into dryers, is there any reason to not go with Westinghouse over Electrolux? Under the same company and they look very similar.

    • Can vouch for Samsung Heatpump. AI is pretty spot on in getting the perfect dry.

      • Looks like that's the only one that comes with Steam right?

        • Yeah the stream intrigued me too!

  • Fyi I did calculations on whether it was worthwhile changing from vented to heat pump. In general not for normal combination drying scenarios where you mostly line dry and sometimes use the dryer. The payback period is such a long time. Wait until the vented dryer eventually dies and then consider heat pump. Otherwise use your vented dryer for the next 10+ years

    • That's true but it depends where you live. In my area of Australia, the reality is you need to use the dryer 8 or 9 months of the year

  • There is a thread on Whirlpool about this one.

Some are very happy but some others report a putrid smell developing inside. Smell of stagnated water inside.

As it is soooo expen$ive full research is needed to verify suitability.

  • Got mine delivered this morning. Really quick service.

    • Did it come with a drain hose, and how long would it be?

      • +3

Mine was just delivered, ordered yesterday. It comes with the “Accessories Drain Set T20/T21”. Can’t find tape measure, but it’s over 1.7m, possibly up to 2m

        • Thanks!

      • yes, it has a plastic pipe around 2m

  • Thanks bought one
