Guy slept with his mates misses…

Has a history of abusing his partner… (pretty she he smashed a glass over his misses head)

Also after his first wife took him back, cheated on her whilst she was pregnant…..

Bar being good at football back in the 90s how has this man managed to have such a successful career in the media (until now)

@iNeed2Pee: So your missus thought she was entitled to a photo because she considered Hingis as a hero when she was younger? Sounds like Hingis had, politely, acknowledged her and had said “no sorry” to the photo. Hardly a hanging offence. Frankly I thought you guys were a tad rude for thinking you were entitled to the photo. Just wondering how you feel about beggars who get “put out” when you don’t hand over money when they ask?

            • +1

@try2bhelpful: Yeah fair point, but quite the contrary.

She didn't feel like she was entitled at all, she just thought it would be a nice way to meet her sporting hero and grab a photo with her as an adult.
Partner was actually very excited when she saw her.

Her head was down the entire time, and the sorry, no was not said in a nice way. (that was the rude part).
My partner did not come across agressive at all and wanting a photo, in fact she did not even want to approach her, but thought considering she really looked up to her as a younger player, why not?

Her (Martina) demeanour was the opposite to what my partner expected actually.
I also give money to beggars when I can, I do not turn a blind eye.

I think writing this also does not portray the actual events, hard to convey a response of what actually happened.

              • +1

@iNeed2Pee: Well, maybe we’ll need to agree to disagree on this. Me, I think Hingis was a person who used to earn a living playing tennis. She was minding her business and someone came up to her and asked for a photo and then was put out when she politely declined. She said “oh thanks, that’s kind and “No, sorry”. Me, I think she has a right to decline to be someone’s Instagram prop long after she’s ceased to play tennis and her responses were quite civil. She probably gets these sort of approaches many times a day and just wants to be able to do things in peace.

Do you give to every beggar? Or do you, sometimes say “no sorry”?

All I’m saying is maybe you guys need a little bit of perspective on this.

                • @try2bhelpful: I don't come across many beggars so yes I do.

Yes let's agree to disagree. Very hard to convey exactly how it went through a response here:)

But you can assume she was lovely in her responses but she didnt really want a bar of us.
It is true about never wanting to meet your heroes because they probably will let you down. As shown here 🤣

                  Max Gawn ftw

                  • @iNeed2Pee: Maybe I’m a bit more inured because I live in Fitzroy. 😉

                    • @try2bhelpful: 🤣 I visited piedimontes the other day when I was in the area. Scared me a little

                      • @iNeed2Pee: The civilised part of Fitzroy.

We front onto a laneway. When we moved in, 20 years ago, the first order of the day was to collect the syringes in the street. We still have a plastic milk bottle, with a lid, in the meter box just in case. Still get the odd one.

                • @try2bhelpful: Why would you want your photo taken with an unknown person? And why do people feel entitled to have a photo with someone just because they are famous or you have been a fan?

                  It is beyond me.

It is not like they are some sort of "influencers" living of their media exposure, they are sportspeople and the media exposure is just a consequence of their career.

                  • +1

@munecito: I do tend to feel the same. I’m not above saying “I saw so and so today” but I don’t feel the need to disrupt their day and, certainly, don’t feel entitled to a photo with them. Especially, now days, with pictures posted up on social media other people will assume the celebrity is a publicity seeker trying to stretch their moment of fame and feel entitled to make nasty comments about how “old they are looking”, etc. The celebrity has no control over how this image is used.

It reminds me of a sign I saw in a shop. “Please don’t ask for credit as a refusal may offend”. If you are going to ask someone for something they are entitled to say “no”. You are the one approaching them and interrupting their day. The more pictures of “I met so and so” on Instagram the more likely the celebrity is to be approached by people expecting a photo. A flat “no pictures” makes sense. I just think people are a tad thoughtless at times.

                • @try2bhelpful: Hingis was only so rich because people wanted to watch her. She can say no, that's fine, but do it nicely.

        • +1

Long time ago, I ran into Hingis in the CBD around Aus Open time. I was a fan, still am. We said hello and I did ask for a photo but she was not interested. I was bit disappointed but got over it. Got a photo with Glenn Robbins the following week. Pure legend.

          • +1

@gofree: Don't forget that once you take a selfie, it invites attention to the larger crowd - more people notice and will realize who she is, and snowball into a star sighting. There goes her privacy/autonomy for that period until she can somehow vanish again.

She probably appreciates the anonymity of not being swamped/crowded, and wanted to maintain it that way.

      • -1

Tbf Hingis had a rep for being a bit of a douche.

    • Hierarchy. Lobster. Competency.

      Make your bed

    • That are just people that play sport for a living.

Has been happening since the Roman times.

      • +2

A Fitzroy game with real lions. Interesting concept.

        • +1

My favourite hero from those times was Scipio Africanus.

Not sure if he cheated on his wife though…

  • -1

Depends if you consider the tyrant Scomo to be in the media or not.

    • +5

      Or Rupert Murdoch.

      • +1

Ooo yeah, he definitely in the media, or is the media.

    • Peter Fitzsimmons the pirate for mine

      • Proof?

        • +1

He's a sanctimonious woke coward. A champagne socialist. And a hypocrite.

          • -2

@garddn: What a world salad of rightwing tropes. Learn to develop an argument.

So you think that is worse than being a drug addict and beating up several women?

            • +1

@try2bhelpful: Are you his boyfriend or something?

Anyway the bloke is a douche, Queen wasn't even cold and hes out spruiking his republic crap.

              • -2

@Richmond Tigers: Still can’t develop a proper argument, huh? Another puerile irrelevant attack.

Frankly whatever the timing, the question of how this affects the Republic will need to be addressed.

              • @Richmond Tigers: I think he might be. He's taken it very personally.

            • @try2bhelpful: It's typical of your ilk to let those comments slide in regard to Scomo and Murdoch but attack mine because he's a leftie woke darling. Do you think Scomo and Murdoch are worse than being a drug addict and woman beater? The fact that you took umbrage at my comment and not theirs shows that you're cut from the same red bandanna wearing hypocrites' cloth.

              • @garddn: This person probably fist pumped the Queens death just like Peter Fitzshit (profanity) did.

                • @Richmond Tigers: And still can’t put forward a coherent argument so you stoop to abuse. Including using foul language.

Frankly I had a lot of respect for the Queen. However, given she was a woman in power I, strongly, suspect neither you nor garddn did.

                  • +1

@try2bhelpful: How dare you make assumptions on who i do and do not respect. Just another example of how you and your ilk work.

  • Most of the things you describe sound typical of journalists. These are people with big egos and drugs/women is part and parcel with the job. Not too dissimilar with a lot of the stuff that gets reported about politicians. It's what happens when people have a heightened sense of importance. I'm sure there are a lot of good people out there who resist temptation but there are plenty out there who are just as bad as Carey.

    • +2

      That doesn't make Carey ok.

      • +1

No, I'm saying he probably isn't the worst person in the media.

        • +1

True, Mark Robinson is much worse…

          • +1

            @jv: Yeah I've heard he's a massive flog

  • +4

How about Joey Johns being inducted into the rugby league hall of fame after he was busted selling drugs. Guy never even would have made the Qld team but was the best NSW could muster. Bloody ridiculous.

    • +2

Plenty of other blokes in the queue before him, that should have gotten the spot.

      • Agreed. It annoys me that his brother was hung out to dry for something not his fault and not illegal but Joey gets busted selling drugs and he is fine. What a farce.

  • +2

I guess bad actors everywhere but the media should stop giving air time to these people. Not news worthy at all!

  • +12

    He's trash lets be honest.
Kyle Sandilands, Andrew Bolt, Pete Murray are all shock jocks with zero backbone as well.

  • -4

The worst by far is Peter Fizsimmons, Carey could drown a litter of kittens and still be better than that bandana wearing dipshit.

On par with Carey would be Matty Johns, he's done some pretty rotten things.

    • +8

You want to give us some examples from Fitzsimmons? When I Google him I can’t find much apart from a few verbal spats. If I Google Carey then a mass of stuff is there; including physically abusing several women.

      Happy to be enlightened.

      • +2

I get downvoted for asking for this to be justified? Yeah, right.

        • +3

He played Rugby Union, drives a Tesla, campaigns for the republic, against sport head injuries, writes for the Sydney Morning Herald and is fairly center left in his political views.
The ‘woke’ coming of the devil by some standards I am sure.
He is certainly forthright in his opinions, even when he isn’t the most informed.
But, he’s a media option columnist so it goes with the job.

          • +5

@mskeggs: Yeah, some people don’t think someone is a “real sport commentator” unless they are a drunken, abusive, drug taking, misogynistic, stupid POS. This seems to include some heads of departments in media companies.

Frankly Fitzy tends to be a lot more informed than a bunch of ex sporting “personalities” but, like every one else, he can get things wrong.

To try to put him in the company of someone like Carey is laughable.

    • -2

      I second that!

      • Just because you’ve posted this thrice still doesn’t make it true.

  • Nobody is perfect, but yes I wouldn't want to be mates with Carey

  • What, no talk of Ben Cousins? lol

    • +2

      Is Cousins in "the media"?

      • +1

Define "in the media" - presenting shows, or articles written constantly? Coz both are true

        • Fair enough; I wasn't aware of the Ch7 Perth gigs or the proposed shows in the next few weeks.
If he puts himself out there in that type of way, he probably deserves to rank up there with all the others mentioned.

    • I would say Cousin's was never really a media personality.
Too much baggage for any media
A one off show isn't really a media career.

    • +1

      Such is life

  • +5

what a load of crap that he's considering suing Crown Casino for "disability discrimination".

    • +1

Hilarious isn’t it? The guy has no perspective at all. It sounds like the ultimate in entitlement.

  • +1

Once upon a time I saw Wayne Carey just like Shane Warne.

Over time, I see Shane's getting better and Wayne's going backwards.

Too bad Shane's no longer with us.

    • -1

Yeah but at least he can’t doing anything else bad.

      • That's pretty callous. How would you feel if someone was saying that about you or your loved ones? Don't forget, you're talking about a human being.

        • Actually he is an ex human being now.

Frankly my comment is pretty tame for the sort of things we say at my family’s funerals. We take the piss out of each other in life, we might as well in death.

My comment was, pretty, tongue in cheek but it does hold a kernel of truth. Warnie had done some pretty shoddy things on his life, and done some decent things. All any of us can do is balance the good, and bad, at any given instance. We don’t know what Warnie would’ve done next, but it had the potential to be good or the potential to be wrong. Now he won’t go down in society’s estimation from being a dick. It doesn’t mean I want home dead, just stating the obvious.

  • So does anyone know of a powdered pain killer that you carry around in little baggies?

    • i've only done a little hit of coke once.. and that was definitely a pain killer

    • +1
      • under rated oldschool comment!

        • Fentanyl comes as powder but I doubt that'll save him. I can see why he's trying to litigate Crown to salvage the remainder of his commentary career but it doesn't pass the pub test.

  • +4

The fact that we're still talking about this guy who has been charged with several assaults over many years is mindblowing. Infidelity and substance use aside, the fact that he's managed to maintain a career on television with the history of assault says it all really. But dropping him would be 'cancel culture gone too far' I'm guessing…

    • The only actions we, as viewers, can take is to:
      - not watch the station / programme that these people appear on
      - if you want to be more reactive, tell advertisers in those programmes that you won't buy from them

But, when most of the advertising these days appears to be for gambling, they probably don't care.

    • Absolutely the point.

    • +3

The fact that we're still talking about this guy who has been charged with several assaults over many years is mindblowing

I don't think it's mindblowing. We live in a country (and world, for that matter) where, it doesn't matter how much of an absolute c*** you are, if you know the right people you can easily get a paycheck whether you've committed crime, can't do the job, have no experience etc.

Carey was a great footballer, to the people who hire him that's all they care about, they are willing to ignore all his transgressions.

  • He got arrested a few years back in America. Took on a few cops single-handedly.

  • +1

For the record i posted this because the comments would be hilarious and Ozbargain you seldom disappoint

I genuinely didn't know who this guy was. Then I looked up his wiki and discovered he played AFL.

No wonder as this is coming from someone who grew up in both QLD and NSW.

    • Maybe that's why there's 65 votes for "Who?" (as of this comment) haha.

      • +1

Ill give OP credit for including the option

  • +1

He got rewarded for being a footballer of minor fame.

In this country a footballer can get away with all kinds of things (ie. rape, assault) and still receive a fat paycheck.

We need to ask these sports fans - R U OK ?

  • +1

I thought he glassed himself during an episode with the then girlfriend but then again, doesnt make him any better. Whoever said you needed to be a decent human being to be rich and famous?

  • -2

Duck is piss funny on Triple M, no wonder so many people got around him

  • +2

    Gary Lyon appears in chat

  • He seems to have got his hair back

Waleed aly is the king of the worst. End of thread.

    • +2

Didn’t he study hard and work his way up himself?
Unlike this guy would of probably been born into wealthy inheritance, even not he’d have a lot of privileges.
      Any scandals Waleeds been in?

      • Born into wealth? His mother raised four of his siblings in a homeless shelter…
You know to be an AFL footballer requires elite talent and dedication. Money doesn't magically make you a gifted athlete.

        • No wonder these bogus kids grow to be assholes, they probably blame it on their parents and god knows how badly they acted during school, it’s always the bogus ones bullying from my experience and racism was always their, just a shame most went unrecorded as to lack of technology back then
Ps didn’t even know this guy so i was second guessing before.

  • I always wondered why this guy was given so many second chances. He must have pretty powerful close friends is the only reason I can think of.

  • +3

Go to his wiki page and click on the controversies section and have a read. The fact he has a job on channel 7 boggles the mind

  • +1

Carey was never a good bloke, great footballer yes but that's where the great stopped, a lot of brown paper bags paid by the roos thru out his career to keep his name off the front page of the paper, he would never have survived his stunts as a footballer with current social media. he is a dog.

  • +1

It just sounds like Wanye Carey has been up to his usual wankery.

  • +2

If the media you watch features people like that - why are you watching it?
They clearly have him there as it gives them advertising ratings, so you’re not the only one….

  • +2

    You forgot the rest
    - Assaulted a female police office
    - Domestic violence against former partner

  • +1

I have never heard about him but I would question the mates misses too if they happily slept with him

  • +1

    Who?

  • Clive Palmer is the worse person

  • Shane Warne (RIP) says hi.

He's had just as many indiscretions but people love him.

  • +1

There are good eggs and bad eggs in life.

    Carey is a bad egg.

    Next.
