[VIC] Coffee $0.37 @ ALDI, Swanston St

1120

Am I most likely giving Aldi free advertising when they don't deserve it? Probably. But hey, it's coffee that you don't have to make, for 37 cents that doesn't taste offensively bad. Alternative milks and double shots are available for no extra cost. Available today and tomorrow (9/09).

So, if you've ever wanted:
- to drink a coffee; or
- to see how much caffeine you can consume in a day before your heart gives out on the cheap; or
- to brag about getting a bargain; or
- to fall into what is clearly a marketing exercise to make you shop at Aldi; or
- spend exactly 37 cents.
this is probably the deal for you.

Does this get rounded to 35c or 40c?

    • +4

Depends on whether you're paying in 5 or 10 cent coins

    • +36

35c if you pay cash. It will be 37c if you pay by card (credit too as purchase under $2 will avoid their surcharge). If you're getting 2 then make sure you pay seperately for that additional 5c saving

      • +3

Press the Savings button to avoid the card fee

        • +2

Purchases under $2 won't get hit with a surcharge, savings nor credit. The 0.5% surcharge will get rounded down to 0c

        • Really worried about the 0.5% of 37 cents?

          • +34

@baldur: Hand in your membership if you're not. It's Ozbargain, not Ozletspayaldisurcharge

            • @nicholasv: Study some trade off and cost of opportunity.

              • @baldur: Opportunity cost doesn't change in taking up this deal with credit. Not forgoing anything as there is no surcharge incurred either way. And your opportunity cost would be minimal regardless

            • @nicholasv: It's not OzTightArse either.

      that's the spirit!

    • +8

      It gets grounded to 35c.

      • +3

        JV is that you?

        • +14

That sir is the ultimate insult.

    • +1

If it rounds up, pay by card. If it rounds down, pay by cash.
People save whole dollars each year this way. :p

  • +4

Is there any significance to the 37c? Seems random, but a bargain nevertheless.

    • +22

Likely related to per shot within a bag to demonstrate the value?

      • +4

Seems obvious now in hindsight, thanks!

    • +1

itll be flogging of aldi-label nespresso machine and pods.

      • +1

        Makes sense, thank you.

      • That's what I thought too, but the image shows a real coffee machine…

        • Yeah, it'd be the cost of the beans : )

    • +10

believe it's the equivalent cost of making a coffee at home using their beans

      • +1

I believe you are right, appreciate it!

        • +2

Love how you responded to each one as if you weren't told the same thing 3 times over lol

It is a Prime number :)

Please buy me a double shot cap on skim. I'll pay you double & DM my address

As far as supermarket beans go the Aldi Lazzio is not bad

    • +3

I'd go so far as to say, Lazzio is quite enjoyable, I love the Brazil blend when it's available.

      • +1

Only Brazil is available near me, no Colombia, Peru etc. Costs a couple bucks more but worth it imo.

Also I think it's single origin, not a blend

        • Ahhh I've been looking for the Brazil one for a couple of weeks, I need to buy a couple of bags.

          Yep, single origin :)

Which store? I'm sure it won't be close, but you never know.

          • +1

@SimAus007: In Victoria, northern suburbs. All 3 I've been to have Brazil

      • +1

Yeah, it's my go-to if I'm between coffee bean deliveries, or if I'm having a large number of people around and don't want to burn through my "good" beans.

I agree that the Brazil blend is very good.

      • +1

Check the roast date (small font near the top printed in reverse).

Brazilian is normally roasted back in June.

  • At 250 ml for a cup - flat white is 2/3 or latte is around 1/3-

Minimum 82 ml of milk for 37 cents -

Max 164 ml of milk -

    • Not worth it for the milk alone based on $1.60/l
Or could someone just get full cups of milk for 37c each and save 12c/l?

      • Maybe the alternative milks will provide a better savings per litre. If so then you could just get the most expensive milk, take it home and then work on how you're gonna seperate it from the coffee

  • Do you know which beans they are using? One of the single origins, or the regular Lazzio dark/medium beans?

    • -1

They're using the Lazzio coffee beans

      • +4

lazzio has single origin and "regular".

        It was a fair question

  • +4

Is this the newly refurbished Aldi in the CBD, so it's re-opened now? Or is it a different store entirely?

EDIT: Just looked it up. It's the same store, but they're marketing it as a brand new one.

  • +3

    Can't see option for delivery

  • +3

Too bad hiver 5% cashback has ended. Deal breaker for me

    • But it's $0.37

      • +2

i think he was kidding lol

  • It gets rounded to $0.35 so you’re saving 5% already

    • Only if you pay with cash.

  • +7

Aldi beans are actually amazing for the price. The roast date is coded underneath the best before date (Date is printed back to front). The supply line is really tight, normally I can get beans that have been roasted within 2 - 3 weeks.

    • Yeah I must go to one that goes through heaps of coffee, mine are always 1-2 weeks after roast.

      • Oh nice - which store is that, if you don’t mind?

Best I’ve been able to get near me was 2 weeks (usually 3+ weeks).

        • Just grabbed some at north rocks which was 2 wks 2 days after roast! So good!

  • Anyone have the address? Is it the one at 'Tenancy 2 Swanston Street'? Cheers

    • That's the one. Ignore Google saying it's closed, it's re-opened as of today.

Also, the entrance is actually on Franklin St.

  • +1

I buy that lazzio medium roast for my stovetop mocha maker and it's actually pretty good.

  • Up voted for the description

  • +3

They looked at me funny when I gave them 40 cents and asked for my change

    • +1

I still have some old 1 and 2 cent coins. It'd be funny to pay with exact change.

  • +6

All sales of Lazzio barista-brewed coffees as part of the opening will be donated directly to Aldi’s national charity partner Camp Quality.

In addition, for every reusable cup brought to the store for the coffee, Aldi will double the donation amount for that sale.

  • +1

I like the dark and medium dark beans - good price and reliable

  • Can I get $1 back through Shopback or Cash Rewards?

  • There are Cafes out there that have Aldi beans in the hopper, regardless of what they tell you.

Source: Used to work for coffee importer/distributor and have seen/discussed with Cafe owners.

    • Aldi doesnt roast their own beans

Beans come from a supplier that also supplies cafes

They actually boomed due to aldis massive increase in coffee needs with everyone at home

  • Is this an ongoing promo? Any catch?

  • Boooo….the flight costs down to Vic kills this deal for me…

    • That all depends on how much coffee you buy.

  • My regular morning coffee is Aldi medium dark beans (roasted by their supplier in Melbourne), ground in a Breville smartgrinder and poured via a Breville Bambino Plus. Excellent value and better than many cafe pours.

  • Anyone know if the coffee is available as soon as they open at 8:30 today?

  • This is actually a really clever promo. I've started using Aldi beans a lot more….. they're a pretty cost effective average bean. Average to local roasters, not supermarket on shelf stale beans.

  • Cashreward's 1%-7%; JB's 5% off "sales" or "exclusive" vouchers; and many of the other crappy 'bargains' store affiliates post on here are clearly marketing exercising. Why is Aldi getting lambasted for absurdly cheap coffee, with no extra charge for alternative milks or double shots?

Damn straight I'll shop at Aldi, they're not going to milk me for 80c-$1 for my oat milk. Cheaper than woolies/coles usually too.

Their beans are actually not bad, I use them as "emergency beans" for when my nice stuff runs out, but my next delivery isn't due for a few days.
