  • Thanks for the description!

    • You're welcome.

I hate the way these are called NUC, but it's a laptop.

  • +1

    thanks got one finally

  • This looks almost too good to be true. What's the catch? I suppose it's rubbish for gaming.

    • +4

It's not a gaming laptop, unlike the NUC X15, the NUC M15 is more for work rather than play.

Intel is aggressively discounting these laptops because they're showing their age — it was released in Q4 of 2020. There must be a fairly large quantity of these unsold since many computer stores stills stock these.

    • +4

I have this laptop. It’s thin and light laptop with excellent build quality though it is not a gaming laptop, unlike the Intel X15. However, you can absolutely do light gaming such as Minecraft.

  • Can I use USB C phone charger to charge the laptop?
    Thank you

    • +1

This laptop requires 65w USB-C charger.

      • Ok. I'm just worried about bringing the power brick everywhere because I need to travel for uni.
        Thank you

        • +1

You could use the USB-C laptop charger to charge your phone too :)

        • +1

Another option is a GaN charger - much smaller than most other USB-C chargers, got this one for one of the people I worked with who wanted a small charger for his laptop and phone at the same time and he was quite impressed with it.

Cheaper here with free delivery for eBay plus https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/275426570340?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

    • +6

That's the Core i5 model, sans Touchscreen and no included mouse. That was available for $850 on AfterPay day.

  • Fabulous laptop. The screen is top notch - 400+ nits. The battery deserves an award. I recently clocked 17 hours of browsing using the battery saver setting. My only gripe is that the backlight turns off too quickly (5 seconds).

    • +1

Assuming you're talking about the keyboard backlight a recent bios update allows you to adjust the backlight timeout in the bios. It was my only complaint with the laptop also.

      • -1

Yeah, the keyboard backlight. That's good news, I'll update the BIOS and toggle the timeout, cheers

    • how is the sound. Might get this for my parents but they usually play through the laptop speakers for movies and youtube etc

      • +1

If you find you need more powerful sound, grab a set of these compact speakers for $29:
        https://www.umart.com.au/product/creative-pebble-2-0-usb-spe…

(Search umart for pebble for a white version, or USB C version.)

Got some for an older relative and they are loving the sound upgrade from their tiny PC (with tiny built-in speaker)!

      • +1

Speakers are totally acceptable for YouTube and the odd movie. They're down firing so if you have the laptop on your bed the bedding muffles them a little. On a table is fine.

Strange that your battery life exceeds the official numbers. How many nits brightness is your screen set to and what were you running at the time?

      • -2

The only thing strange around here is you

        • Sorry I wasn't expecting such an immature, schoolyard, response to a question about your claimed 17hrs battery life.

  • +1

Thanks. Not many economical touch screens at this price for a 15" screen which is what my elderly relos want

Just missed the deal last week with wireless mouse from SE

  • +1

Bought via last deal $1149 total, no extra mouse. Nice screen, win11 home, 1.65kg, noticed if booted to my bootable macrium USB (to take a complete image) there was no mouse pad, but used a USB mouse no problem.

    • Do you need to purchase a macrium license to create a bootable usb?

      • With Macrium reflect free can create winpe rescue media

  • its recommended customer price is 1059 when it was released, this is on intel au website, wtf

My RAV4 is valued at $4,000 more than it was in Jan 2020, go figure

    • +1

I think that's bulk of 5 laptops RRP each

    • +2

Recommended Customer Price (RCP) is pricing guidance only for Intel products. Prices are for direct Intel customers, usually represent 1,000-unit purchase quantities

Assuming they had ordered 1000 units direct from Intel and not from a distributor like Synnex or Ingram. Plus manufacturer RRPs are commonly (not always) ex GST.

I have the i5 version which is more than enough for my needs, bought for $850 during the AfterPay day sales. Very happy with the build quality, how smooth things are, the display is great as well.

    • can you comment on the touch pad, is it as good as apple macbook? or % wise how good it is compared to the glass touch pad on macbook. my only laptop (macbook air 13 2015) shat it self last year and right now i only have a desktop (gaming) and no proper laptop this might be a good deal if it ticks all the quality boxes

      • Sorry mate I can't compare it to Macbooks as I haven't owned one. The touchpad is fine I guess? Haven't skipped a beat since the 3 weeks I've had it

Why would you go for this over a Lenovo AMD deal, unless you really need MMX technology

    • Quality, Alexa, 2x Type-C Thunderbolt 4

    • Just depends on the deal.

The previous posters comment about quality is a overstatement. There is a reason why the price of this laptop keeps dropping is due to so much stock on hand, amongst different resellers, that they can't move. It was an overpriced mid tier laptop.

The AMD R5 and R7 CPUs are faster and more power efficient than the Intel i7-1165G7. The Radeon iGPU on the AMD laptops have better driver support for gaming.

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-1165G7-vs-AMD-…

If you get an AMD laptop with USB 4 it negates Thunderbolt 4, which is a niche requirement anyway.

    • built quality, look and feel, finish, battery life.. lenovo is all plastic and looks like shit, personally i hate plastic laptops

      • Please post a link to the Lenovo laptop you are referring to and the price point. Please also post a link which demonstrates that the battery life on this laptop is better than a Lenovo laptop you seem to be referring to.
