Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute Extra + Bonus Floor Dok $959.20 (Was $1349) Delivered @ Dyson eBay

1070
DYS20V12

Looks to be the lowest ever price on this latest generation Dyson vacuum.

  • Comes with a bonus Floor Dok accessory (freestanding dock) valued at $149 (mentioned in the description)
  • Similar weight to the Dyson V8
  • 30% more powerful than the Dyson V8 (same power as the V10, less power than the V11, V15)
  • Small bin capacity (slightly smaller than the V8, far smaller than other vacuums)
  • 60mins runtime (more than the V8. Same as V10, V11, and V15)
  • Has a low-profile green laser fluffy head (which is Dyson's best head for hard floors. Unique to V12 and V15). The laser is designed to accentuate dirt on hard floors.
  • Auto speed (depending on the amount of dirt). Speed is selectable with a button on the back (Med/Auto/Boost)
  • LCD screen showing the size of particles being collected
  • Has the on/off button on top (other vacuums use a trigger button in the handle)

In summary, this is a more high tech, lightweight version of the V10 most suited to medium to large houses with hard floors throughout. If you need a more powerful vacuum (e.g. you have pets & carpet), then the V11 or V15 would be better suited.

'LCD screen showing the size of particles being collected' - what a useless waste of material and time. Who cares?

    • +1

I tend to agree. It's a technology that started in their air purifier where it makes more sense.
However, it does make the "Auto" speed feature work.

    • +1

I can confirm I have this exact vac and have never cared or looked at the lcd screen. The green laser on the head though is very effective

      • how do you find the battery life? i have one of the small handheld things and it dies in just a few minutes

        • It's pretty similar, it dies in 8 minutes on max suction. They seem to be pretty stingy on battery info but the V10 was a 2600mAh battery with the same power as a V10 so it should be slightly bigger. Nothing ground breaking as the V8 already had a 2800mAh battery, they seem to be going no where with battery sizes, even stagnant with suction power.

Still can't come close to the Dyson animal ball vacuum, these stick vacuums are for convenience not getting the job done to the cleanest outcome possible.

  • +2

I believe this is the slimmer version of V15, hence it is smaller than the standard size like other models V10, V11 or V15.

    Thanks grabbed 4

    • +1

Seeing this on every single philips hue post that i miss out on has started triggering me.

  • +1

OP title needs to say slim:)

For those interested in this, I managed to get 25% off V15 plus detailed cleaning kit directly through Dyson - $1,124.

$165 difference - depending if you value the extra suction, HEPA filter etc versus weight, charge time - https://vachq.com/dyson-v12-detect-slim-vs-dyson-v15-detect

    • +1

How did you get 25% off?

      • +2

Call customer service or via chat tell them you are an existing Dyson customer. Have the serial number of your Dyson vacuum ready and they will give you 20-25% off depending on how much they value you.

I was offered 20% off last time I called up but their payment system is a POS and declined both of my cards so I gave up.

        • Yes, serial # of an old Dyson. Tried to get the dock too but no go. YMMV

    • +2

      Also want to know how

    • The V12 does have a HEPA filter.
It would seem strange to 'scientifically' measure particle sizes, and not include a HEPA filter.

Replacement filters can be purchased here, or for less from here

      • Oops, i was using vachq.com as a reference

      • +2

For reference, the cyan coloured filter is HEPA , the purple is not. The purple filter will capture 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 micron while the cyan is rated at 99.97% down to 0.1 microns.
Both vacuum systems exceed HEPA requirements when accounting for the stages of filtration such as the cyclones to separate, however only the cyan filter is an actual HEPA filter.
Do note that the slightly finer materials of the cyan filter will restrict airflow very slightly compared to the purple filter as well.

    $1K for a stick vacuum.
The Ozbargain way is to wait for a deal on an earlier (V10, V11) model or get a Xiaomi Mi stick vacuum.

    • or get a Xiaomi Mi stick vacuum.

Do you have experience with after-sales support from Xiaomi? I have heard it's terrible and replacement parts are hard to get. Dyson is a clear winner for both after-sales support and replacement part that don't break your bank. As a result, my V6 is going strong even after 7 years!

      • +1

People who have "heard things" about a particular product are really just making things up.

      • My V6 head brush and motors isn’t doing so well.
Dyson will give you a new one even if it is out of warranty?
My Xiaomi one is going ok.

  • +2

    one day , one day.

joke aside, I just took apart my V6 fully and did a thorough disassembly and maintenance (clean, lube), and i was genuinely surprised by how detailed and over engineered a lot of part are.

    • +1

The product is called Dyson Floor Dok

  • It's Motorbar as per Dyson website, but direct drive on their eBay page. Seriously?

    • Probably it means that on ebay it's their older model with direct drive.

    • +5

It's an older model variant. Absolute extra is the older sku of V12 from before the Motorbar was released. The new V12 sku is 'absolute' instore on the dyson site, and 'complete' on the dyson site.

  • Does this have the new anti tangle carpet head?

    • +2

Unfortunately this is the previous revision of v12 which came out before the anti-tangle motorbar. For the new head you want V12 'absolute' or 'complete'

      • Got the V12 Complete & love it, especially the green laser light! Shows all the pet hair on the timber floors

  • +3

@guidedlight FYI capacity is 350ml, V8 capacity is a bit larger at 540ml. Hope this helps

    • Thanks, I've updated the description.

  • Thanks got 1

  • I bought the v10 last month, should have waited :(

    • +1

If you got the v10 for sub 700 then looking at the comparisons i think you got the better bang for your buck

  • -3

I created an account just to say, this is still expensive.

When it comes down to it, you're spending $40 a month for 2 years (warranty period) for a vacuum cleaner. Or $20 a month for 4 years if it lasts that long.

    That's with the discounted price.

    • I’ve had my V8 for over 5 years and still going strong. Have replaced the battery twice though… but generic ones aren’t that expensive and tend to last about 2 years or so in my experience.

      • Ours lasted for 6 with no battery replacement. Onto our 3rd now. Still love them.

  • Being a Dyson vacuum user for 10 years
IMO if the vacuum is purely used for hard floor suction power doesn’t needed to be the strongest

Even my 7 years old v6 still able to pick up most of the dirt and dust on hard floor surface, a good hard floor motor head does help in “sticking” some dust on the floor tho

Thus I would say v8 will be a better buy than this unless you need the extra run time

    • We are still using the v6, just bought a bigger capacity battery (4000mAh) but still struggling to get any more than 6-7 mins on max.

Hard to justify spending $1k purely because of the battery.

      • How long do you get on normal speed with extended battery?

      • What battery did you buy, one from Amazon? I've bought one from Amazon and lasted about 3months and died. Where can you buy an original Dyson battery from? I have a couple of v6s needing battery.

        • Buy replacement battery direct from Dyson

  • My motor died on my V10 (I suspect someone repeatedly used it while the filter was clogged).

I can get a 'main unit' for $299 or…buy a V15 for $1200. Hardwood floors already taken care of by the botvac. This is just for carpet.

  • -1

The batteries do not last long on these… speaking from experience

    • On V12? From my experience I haven’t had a single unit come back in store with a battery fault for this machine. Older units with screw in batteries are most common, the machines with click in batteries seem to have more reliable batteries so far over my current 3 years experience. Posting as an individual, not making a claim on behalf of or representing Dyson

    • My experience would be the opposite, battery fine on my 4 year old v10 as if brand new

    • Opposite from experience my v11 absolute has lasted me 3 years and has the runtime it did when i bought it.
One of the best purchases i have made for house maintenance

  • +1

Its much easier using a robot on hard floor.

    • I would score my robovac, a 5 out of 10 in terms of cleaning performance. It's good at getting most of the dirt and lint… but I still need to do a proper vacuum and mop every couple of weeks (versus weekly without the robovac). The robovac has trouble near some edges (e.g. near ducted heating vents), it can't do the top of the skirting boards, inside wardrobes, or behind the doors at all.

Actually, I think the V12 is the perfect combo with a the robovac; especially given the V12's focus on finer dust particles.

      • Yes of course if you have budget, time and need super clean. My robo has self emptying and runs every day. For me, it’s clean enough. Also v12’ bin is too small for carpet if you have 3+ rooms.

        • I agree, the V12 is not appropriate for carpeted houses as the bin is too small.

  • Does anyone know what the battery life is like? I have a D7 handheld vacuum and the battery is trash. few minutes tops before it dies.

    • I have a V7. On "Boost" mode, a V7 will last up to 6 minutes. It's not designed to be used as a regular vacuum in boost mode, as most of the work to lift the dirt is done by the motorhead.

The V12 has a "Auto" mode that will automatically adjust the power to the amount of dirt being collected. It will operate for up to 60 minutes like this. The V12 also has quick release batteries, so you could buy another battery and swap them (in fact, I believe the US model comes with 2 batteries)

      • Great, thanks. I was running the D7 almost exclusively in boost mode as the standard mode didn't seem to be powerful enough. I'm thinking of ditching it and getting one of these and a dustpan and brush instead ;)

  • The V12 is great. I have been using it daily for about a year. It's especially good on hard floors with the spinning floor head with laser. You can purchase this separately if you have a different Dyson model. While the laser does its job, I think it makes it more fun to vacuum. I use this vacuum in a medium sized house and it makes for a quick clean. The light weight is nice, also for cleaning the car and high up spots like mozzies and spiders.
Regardless of the discount it's still ridiculously expensive. I've justified that as 1) I now don't mind vacuuming now and 2) I clean daily, which makes the cost per use lower as I wouldn't do this with my clunky old vacuum.

  • This or the Samsung Bespoke Jet™ Complete Extra Stick Vacuum for $947???????

  • +4

I was able to bring it down to $911.24 with code BRAND5OFF or PLUSSEP1

  • +6

It's down to $909.20 with combined code DYS20V12 and SNSSEPT

    • Thanks, just saved me another $50!

  • +1

Per the other OzBargain post (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/724241#comment-12676479), people who own an older Dyson, you can call or text Dyson asking for discount.

I contacted them today with my old Dyson V6 serial number, they offered me 25% discount on both V11 and V15!

I end up purchased a V11 for $899 (25% off). I think V11 suit me better as it has bigger bin than V12, and more suction power than the slim V12, in fact it has 40% more auction power than V10 / V12.

  • does the code expire at a certain time today? tried it and it no longer works
