[Unobtainable / Listing Error] Star Wars - Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi Force FX Elite Lightsaber $59.12 @ Amazon US via AU » All Comments

  • +4

    Ordered one. Thanks!

    Hope it gets honoured.

    • +1

Same. I’ve wanted a lightsaber from this range for ages but just couldn’t convince myself to pay the asking price.

    • Same

    • Why wouldn't it be honoured

      • Obviously a pricing mistake. They are more like $500.

        • +10

Oh lol. I was contemplating whether it was worth 59 lol

    • +1

Doh or dohnut, there is no try.

  • +11

I'm concerned after ordering it that the picture in My Orders shows as some kind of Playdoh set 😂

    • And I was wondering why the buy together were all playdoh stuff LoL

    • Oh boy, I hope I don't receive $60 of playdoh…

    • Yeap mine too, the Item model number is F4372 which if you type into google it shows the "Play-Doh Colorful Cafe Playset" which is what comes up at the pre-order picture…

    • +2

I just used the snip tool and made a screengrab for assurance

      • Yep, I did the same, I figure worst case I have to send it back and get a refund.

  • +1

    Got 1 thanks

  • +1

    discord ping

    There's a discord?

    • +1

Yes lol. Discord saw it first ;)

      • Discord

        the one levity was promoting?

      • can you share the link with me too?

      • Can you share me the link as well? Thanks:P

      • +2

I would also appreciate if you could share the Zelda.

      • Can you share the link with me too thanks

      • Link please! Don't even know what discord group this is…lol

  • -1

Bought one. But is it even worth buying at $59.12?

    • +6

Why did you buy one if it is Unacceptable?

      • -1

        fear of ozbargain'd

    • How to prove to everyone your a dumb sheep: Step 1: buy something just because someone else said its cheap, even though you have no idea what it is.

  • +9

I did not expect to be preordering a $60 set of Playdoh today but here we are.

    • Haha ME too.

  • +8

May the doh be with you

    • +1

      D'OH!

  • Fingers crossed.

  • +2

Yep model number (F4372) shows up as playdoh on a google search. Placed one anyway! Worst case just Amazon request that I return it and get a full refund. Best case I get the lightsaber. Second best case they just say to keep the playdoh and give a full refund.

    Worth the risk, Thanks OP

    • +2

Third best case they realise the mistake and offer a small Amazon voucher for the inconvenience of cancelling the order.

  • +1

Rrp 500 wow.. do ppl really buy rrp for this item..

    • The same ppl that really love the show probably would

    • +4

For people who collect lightsabers - the $500 ones are considered cheapies for the bottom end of the market.

      • +3

        Not sure why you're downvoted?

People are under-estimating Star Wars nerdsfans. There are people who pay $2000+ for custom made, high end lightsabers from bespoke craftspeople that are made as close as possible to the hero props from the movies, AU$500 surprisingly doesn't get you that far even from one of the more mass produced (non official) makers.

  • Ordered one

Should I have ordered two for authentic lightsaber battles?

    • order 4. sell 2 for $300 each and get some beers for the aforementioned authentic battles

  • Ordered, gotta risk it for the biscuit!

  • +18

distant and clouded the future is. a $10 credit instead of this lightsaber I sense

    meditate on this I will

  • limit is 3. go go go.

    thanks OP.

  • +1

    "Manufacturer recommended age - ‎36 months - 14 years"

Haven't felt so young in ages

    • $500 toy for your 3 year old?

  • Ordered one. Even fact the description says everything else Amazon will refund if the wrong thing is sent.

  • Ordered so I can get the $10 sorry credit from amazon !

  • +1

Boys we eatin play dough tonight

    • after careful consideration we decided to let one of you go

  • +1

Guys we know it's a playdoh ASIN etc but why does play doh even have pre-ordering? Is that even a thing?

    • +1

I think it is a light sabre, but someone stuffed up and linked it to the wrong system. Hence details are right but order number is wrong.

Worst case a refund and some free play doh. Best case a cheap sabre!

  • +1

it's pre-order so wouldn't they just cancel beforehand?

  • +2

Ozbargain is about to clean out that Playdoh stock soon!

  • Can't seem to get it to go past "update quantities" :(

  • -1

Shows correct lightsaber photo on amazon app

  • +1

Shows over, it looks like. Fingers crossed for the homies that it gets honoured!

  • +1

    Can't be ordered now :(

  • Cannot order it anymore. Sold out!

  • +6

It's now unavailable. Some clerk is most likely going… "wow people love playdoh! Oh Shit!"

  • Will it blend? That is the question

  • picture in my order is a play-doh set lol.

  • +1

I ordered 1 before it went unavailable. Let's see their next move

  • +1

    2 in Toy Kitchen Sets

    ;)

    • +2

      We hit #1 baby!!

  • missed it by seconds!

  • All i can say is "This is the way of Ozbargain " 😁

  • +1

    The professionals strike again

    • +1

Yeah Gerry still owes us that certificate!

  • Damn I missed it :(

  • -5

Are you guys thinking of reselling these if you actually get them? I wouldn't pay $60 for one of these

    • Nah, just really want Obe-zos Kenobi's saber ;)

    • Does reselling it not imply that there are plenty of other people who would in fact pay more than $60 for it? You wouldn't but I sure as shit would (and did)

      • -3

I just wasn't sure how much this thing is actually worth

        • +4

Quality comment. Take it to your nuclear bomb shelter.

  • +7

Gonna flip my lightsabre for $500 and spend it on more Play Doh.

    • +2

      I'll try flipping, that's a good trick.

  • Dammit, missed out. Would have loved one!

  • missed. dam

  • +16

Not to worry in any case I do believe we have the high ground.

  • -5

    Landfill.

    • I believe you're thinking this is something like one of these and if so, you are very mistaken. These are high quality collectors items. Even some adults buy things many would consider "toys".

      • -1

        Nope. Still landfill.

        • +3

Let he who is without landfill cast the first stone.

  • +7

For those wondering if this is worth $60, let alone $500, here are my 2 cents.

In my opinion, it is worth more than $60 but definitely not anywhere near $500. The old Force FX line used to be sold around $300 and often go down to around $200. It was based on the sabers from Master Replicas. These are not the cheap plastic ones that you see in typical toy stores.

Years ago Hasbro also has the Ultimate FX line and I think they were around $100 (which are intended for child’s play, and they sit between the cheap toy sabers and the old Force FX line). The Ultimate FX has light and sound (makes lightsaber sounds with movement and when blades clash). They are cheap alternatives and are pretty fun to play with.

I haven’t been keeping in touch with the latest versions of these Force FX “Black Series” or “Elite” sabers but I just don’t see how these are worth $500 when the old Force FX was around $200. I don’t doubt they have improved the quality of these but the RRP is just ridiculous.

    • -14

      "Here are my 2 cents."
"I haven’t been keeping in touch with the latest versions of these Force FX “Black Series”"

Well aren't you just a fount of useful knowledge lol. Is there anything else you don't know anything about you'd like to give an opinion on?

      • +2

Taken out of context anything looks dumb and useless. They're just skeptical of the RRP, which given their experience is valuable information.

    • Completely agree, i have the hasbro darth vader lightsaber, was around $200 and at that price, totally worth it. The next series they suddenly doubled in price to around $500, ridiculous. But all the nerds who live rent free at home happily pay it so now its the normal price.

  • +1

Is that a lightsaber in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me ?

    • +3

I have a bad feeling about this

      • +1

        That's no moooon.

      • This is where the fun begins

    • Nah I’m about to whoop your ass

    • Take a seat young Skywalker

  • +7

    1) sees lightsaber RRP at $499
    2) thinks $60 is therefore a bargain
    3)???
    4) receives playdoh

  • +3

May the dough be with you.

  • +1

No chance this get honoured. These things are expensive.

  • Am I wrong? This isn't obi wans light saber it's Luke's that he builds in ROTJ isn't it?

    • Obi Wan's from the prequel trilogy.

  • charged already. playdoh set is coming from the us

Release date: Saturday, 1 October 2022

    • Yep just got charged for my play doh as well

    • Same here, status changed to preparing for shipment
      Amazon chat here we go

      • May the chat be with you

      • What happened? I bought one too

      • Why don't you wait to see what you actually get?

        • Ohh I was meant to say I’ll hop onto it once it’s been delivered haha

    • Yupp. Charged.

    • Product release date : 1 Oct
      Order status: Preparing shipnent
      Estimated delivery: 6 Oct

Looks like Amazon is really preparing to ship Play Doh

      • +1

PlayDoh share price went up 0.3%.

      • I dont have "preparing shipment" yet, but given the product releases start of Oct, your update sounds promising.

  • +1

Damnit missed out, hope you guys get lucky

  • +1

Customers who bought this also bought playdoh that’s interesting

  • Play doh set been sent to me. Hehe funny

  • Order has been dispatched, expected arrival 24 September.

  • Wow dispatching? Crazy! Well done to those who got one. Le sigh!

    • +2

The question now is, what was dispatched?

As the release date is supposedly 1 Oct, having it dispatched right now either means Amazon US got early access or we're getting some Doh for our dough

      • Yeah the fact this is shipping ahead of the 1 Oct Amazon release date (let alone other retailers ETA) tells me everyone is getting some play doh. Though I did a Google earlier and also heard Hasbro reps state it was due for release in US Fall (i.e. now).

Would love to be wrong though!

        • It's not uncommon for Amazon to ship out toys and items like this closely before release date.

  • Most american websites and the amazon uk link say the real lightsaber releases January 2023.

    • Zing says Oct.

You know how us Aussies get first dibs on everything, even the new PS5 chips

  • +1

Mine has just dispatched arriving 24 Sep. Looking forward to my most expensive playdoh set ever

    • Which Playdoh model are you expecting?

  • Have there been any deals in the past similar to this? Where the picture for the order is different than what it is listed in the title/description.

    • Do a search on the ASIN for the deal. Many examples in Canada of the same thing. Strange to happen again…maybe Rogue 1 is loose in Amazon.

      • Just did a search and yeah saw a few posts from another forum about this deal but I have yet to see any comments saying that they have receive it since it said the delivery is on Jan 2023. But the thing that they mention for the canada amazon listing is that it goes OOS and gets restocked again.

  • Looks like Amazon has really stuffed up listing for both Playdoh and Lightsaber as per below listings. Same ASIN but different description.

Be prepared for return and refund

  • So far all I can tell is the following:

    Package details:

    Total Weight
    1.5 Kg
    Total Pieces
    1
    Total Cubic/M3
    0.022 m3

    The last hope

  • This should have been it - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09T3P3X5C

  • Can confirm it is Play DOH

They've uploaded more pictures in the listing description for your entertainment while you wait for your package :)

    • I guess its safe to cancel?

    • +1

Interesting, wonder if they can just change it after they made the product unavailable

Took this video just in case:

      https://imgur.com/a/yYc4kkg

      • Then can, it seems. Seen it happen before

        • +1

😢 what a shame for your lil bro

  • +1

Contacted customer service because I'm curious, but this is what they said. Take it with a grain of salt.

Guy also mention to me that my item is already prepared to be shipped out from Salt Lake City, Utah

    • +1

“But rest assured that you placed a correct item” 🤔

    • Had a similar convo. I mentioned that i was confused as to why i was scheduled to recieve the item before its pre-order date (24th of Sep vs 1st Oct) and the rep told me they most likely had stock already prepared and can afford to send it out before the date. They also reassured me that I would get the saber (i kept bringing up the fact that i bought a saber to see whether they'd pull me up on it and say it was playdoh but they never did).

Take it all with a grain of salt though…

    • Also had a similar chat. Questioned the pictures Vs description. Was advised the pictures will be corrected and the item ordered and being delivered is the black series sabre. Amazon chat Vs Reality would indicate play-doh will win in my opinion.

  • So guys if we receive playdoh, can we ask for refund? Can we insist on them sending us the saber?

Do we need to return the dough for getting refund, and who have to pay the shipping cost?

    • If we get Playdoh, just let the amazon customer centre know and return it for a refund. Not much else we can do.

    • its a amazon us import so they cant do replacement only option is to send it back for refund which is up to 30 days process, some of us might get lucky with a no return refund though.

      • Who pays the shipping

        • They usually asks you to print a shipping tag and paste it on to the packaging.

The issue, like @Lucretia mentions, is getting it back to them within 30 days.

I bought something from the UK before, and immediately sent it out for refund as I found something else in the mean time. Took AusPost about 3 month from memory to deliver it (they lost the package, and it was found again), at which time I got only a partial refund from Amazon.

      • One time I ordered a few expensive (more than this) SD cards from Amazon US via AU which came damaged, and they refunded the whole thing without a question, and they said I could keep or dispose of the item without needing a return.

  • So I just received a notification that it has been shipped today. Will arrive on the 30th Sept and being delivered by AusPost. Hmmmmm

  • Both Au and US listings have been taken down.

  • Amazon has automatically cancelled the order. It went from "Despatched" to now "Undeliverable" with the message:

"Unfortunately, a problem occurred during shipping and we had to cancel your delivery. The package is being returned, and we will issue a refund within 3 - 5 business days after the return is processed. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience."

Quite the anti-climax after all the excitement and suspense generated from this order!

    • Did it get dispatched today?

      • Like the others above, was despatched around 15 Sep and stuck on "carrier picked up package" step for the last few days when you select Track Package. Today, it turned to "Undeliverable".

        • Mine says in transit to destination country on OmniParcel

        • Who was the delivery company? My one was dispatched on the 17th and being delivered by AusPost. Atm it's still between stage 1-2 on OmniParcel.

          • @Riqodex: Mine is by "Amazon AU Exports" which I believe are just flex drivers, then when it arrives here it'll continue as flex or transfer to Auspost or another courier

          • @Riqodex: Same as I Smell Pennies, mine says Amazon AU Exports. We would only know more once it reaches Sydney to clear customs before it's last leg of the journey

            • @BargainsGrabber: Am i the only one getting shipped by auspost? lol

Also my package is 1.6kg and 0.022 m3

Edit: maybe you guys got the express shipment since you guys are getting it earlier than me.

        • Geez, so looks like I'm the only one that got the undeliverable message. Very strange!

          • @avivadz: Maybe they dropped the package or damaged it. That's usually what happens

            • @I Smell Pennies: First ever such message from Amazon in my 3 years as a member but yes that makes sense given I'm the only outlier here.

              • @avivadz: OK, had a chat to Amazon and confirm it was damaged. I tried but couldn't get any further information to confirm whether this is the lightsaber or not.

See part of chat extract here: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/91166/98257/19-09-2022…

I spent another 15 mins afterwards asking for compensation as I have to now repurchase the item at a higher price. They kept on saying the item is no longer listed on Amazon US and ended up offering a $10 Amazon promo credit which I accepted.

                • @avivadz: Can they confirm if it was play doh or the lightSaber? lol

    • Mine has left the US and is in international transit

    • Mine says it's arriving this Saturday…….

  • My latest update:
    "Friday, 16 September
    12:47 PM
    Package left the carrier facility
    Carson, CA US"

  • This is going to be the hardest fought possible $10 amazon voucher ever.

  • +2

Just received mine this afternoon. Unfortunately it is a Play-Doh set.

    • That was fast, can you confirm if the package weight is ~1.5kg? If it is, I guess we're all getting the play DOH!

      • Just weighed it by standing on my bathroom scales with and without it. It shows ~1.4kg.

        • Amazon chat here we come :/

          • @Riqodex: I am fighting that battle currently. Unfortunately I am being told that it's not my order and not to be concerned as my order is still on the way even though it has my name and the tracking number for this lightsaber order on it. Sigh…

            • @AdamFury: Did the status on your order page changed to delivered? This is gonna be messy

              • @Riqodex: It hasn't yet which is what is confusing them. It is a UPS tracking number and even though I've sent through a photo of the parcel with that tracking number in my hands they are still struggling hahaha. Ah well, was worth a try I guess!

                • @AdamFury: Good luck is all I can say! Keep me updated if they manage to solve this problem.

                  • @Riqodex: Thank you. I will let you know how I go. Right now they are just fobbing me off to contact Amazon.com rather than through AU which I've never encountered before!

                    • @AdamFury: Interesting to see how this goes

                      • +9

@I Smell Pennies: @Ricko98 @I Smell Pennies. Got frustrated and asked to speak with a supervisor / manager. Got transferred and was instantly more helpful. Tried for the 'can you send me the item I ordered' but no luck - he said Amazon have mixed up the item and it's been removed from the website. What I did manage was a full refund 'without the hassle of returning' so I've got 3 free Play-Doh sets I guess!

                        • +1

@AdamFury: In terms of outcomes for this order, I think you've just set the gold standard.

                        • +1

@AdamFury: Well I hope my outcome would be the same once the package arrives, I for the love of god DO NOT want to have a return hassle.

                        • +2

@AdamFury: I guess we’d be seeing a lot of these Play-Dohs on the marketplace
Get ready for the “Hi, What’s your lowest?” question ;)

  • So this is the listing for the actual product

    3.62 x 40 x 7.52 inch
    3.49 pounds

  • +1

Yep received some Play-Doh today, time to hit up the amazon live chat.

    • keep us updated

      • Ended up going into live chat today and I think I hit the jackpot compared to some other peoples experiences. I told the rep I received the wrong item and right off the bat he said "I will make an exception for the return and issue a full refund". In and out of chat in like 2 minutes. So got some free play-doh which I can't complain about! XD

  • +1

Got my playdoh today. Will try the Amazon chat, misses will be happy if I get to keep the playdoh

    UPDATE
Just spoke to an agent on live chat and explained that the wrong item was received. They insisted that the item would need to be returned to be able to get a full refund. I said that I wanted the item I ordered and they replied that there isn't anything they can do. I requested that I speak to their manager and they stated that is only available over phone.

When I spoke to their manager they said the same thing but I persisted in my request for the item I ordered. They said they will look what they can do and put me on hold. After about 13 minutes on hold, they came back and said that the pictures on the listing show the playdoh, and I explained that at time of purchase it showed the images of the lightsaber. They then agreed to provide a full refund without needing to return the item.

YMMV, but I don't think you'll have much luck via chat. Just keep persistent and you should be able to get to keep the item with a full refund. Whole process took about 20 minutes.

Here is screenshots of the chat: 1, 2 and 3

    • Wow that's a nightmare! Good thing it worked out at the end. Also does anyone know how I can provide a screenshot image for the chat on the Amazon app? Or is that not possible?

    • -1

No sh!t, I paid for a brand new coffee machine and they sent me a used coffee machine. After tens of live chats and emails they still insisted that I needed to lug it to the nearest drop off point to return it and refused to get a courier to pick it up from my house.

  • +1

Thought I was buying a light sabre but received play doh today. No convenient return points near me, so I'm off on an unexpected journey.

Feels like I'm part of a parable

  • +1

So, after contacting them and speaking over 1.5 hours, half of which was on hold, I came to a conclusion in which I was able to get an adavanced refund which has already been processed, and also able to purchase the actual lightsaber once it comes in stock at the price it was originally listed as ($59.12) as long as I mention to CS that I had this issue before and there is a note down on my account to purchase the actual lightsaber at $59.12, whether it be a partial refund after the total price (should be $499) or a special order link with the specified price.

Note that this is after persisiting for an hour that I would like to purchase the lightsaber at the price I paid for it.

I would also have to return the Play-Doh set once I purchase the item. I highly doubt this is going to be the case, seeing as the lightsaber will retail for $499 in OZ, but if so, It would be quite a steal and with a story for the ages.

    • Congrats! Mine is due for delivery tomoz according to CODEX so I’ll be hopping onto the live chat after

  • Just got off chat with customer service, "1 time" refund but I can keep the item.

  • +1

Well we can all make Play-Doh lightsabers now.

  • +2

Finally received my order, this is the picture

    • Updated: called amazon and they initially requested me to send the items back for a refund, I refused claiming waste of my time due to their fault. Then they put m on hold for 10 mins and agree to refund and let me keep the item.

  • Best they could offer was $10 credit and a refund, but I still need to drop the item at parcel point, cbf talking to them over the phone

  • +1

Update: Spent about 30-40 mins on the call with Amazon, operator gave a refund, I get to keep the item, and managed to get $15 promotional credit through asking
    YMMV

  • +1

I have to return play doh with an advanced refund but I get to purchase the Lightsaber for the deal price when it becomes available!

    • How would this even work?

      • Said they'd process the price difference as a one time exemption. Similar to OzBMate629 I guess.

        • I messaged them again they gave me $15 credit and "promised to refund for the difference amount" once there is stock if I purchase it again.

          • @ztune: Do u have to return ur item?

I was given choice to return and given 10 credit, or keep item but no credit..

            • @OzFrugie: They said I have to but I noticed they cancelled the return process and I have $15 credit in my account.

        • Same but I don’t think they will honour their offer. Anyone got the link to the correct item on Amazon AU?

  • +2

Refund and get to keep mine. My kid will be happy.

    • same here too. done via live chat

  • Does anyone here know how to check the Amazon credit which they gave? I could not find it in my account anywhere

    • Easiest way I found is to add something to your cart, take it to checkout and see if the credit applies against the total.

    • Go to your account then click on payments and it should be in Rewards & Balances.

  • +3

For those still keeping track of this, like everyone else I received the Play Doh set and manged to get it refunded while getting to keep the playset and have some promo credits as well, so it's fine on that front.

When I asked about the possibility of purchasing the lightsaber in the future for $59.12, I was told (like some of the other users here) that I can contact customer service to get it price matched and get the price difference refunded. However, they insisted that the refund of the price difference will be in the form of a gift card (as in store credits). So if you are going to attempt this, you may end up with say $400+ Amazon credits. I suggest contacting customer service before making the actual purchase, just so you know what you are getting into.

    • Was this through chat or call?

      • It was chat.

  • Like everyone else I received playdoh so went straight to the chat.

I was told to "Just keep that package with you, when we arrange a replacement after new stock available, we will arrange for return as well."

I kept asking whether it would be the lightsaber that I will get, not playdoh and they confirmed that it would be the lightsaber.

So pretty much what ^^Siuto^^ said.

was provided a refund without returning the items. just hopped onto chat again, asking about honouring the price. rep replied:

if you what to place the order again, you want to know if Amazon will honor the same price and the answer to that is yes, but the item should also be sold by Amazon [AU]

so I found a similar lightsaber shipped & sold by amazon au, asked if they can refund the price difference if I purchased it now, as its just a different colour/style
rep said the price difference is too large. they checked with supervisor and was approved to issue a $200 promo credit instead. happy with that tbh :D cheers OP!

    • So you ended up paying $225 for Rey's lightsaber?

      • nup, I didn't have to use the promo credit on the lightsaber. could be for anything shipped and sold by amazon au

        • Oh right gotya. So you have playdoh, $60 refunded and $200 Amazon credit. What a ride!

    • wow great result thanks Jeff

    • Damn thats crafty. I just did mine, gave a song and dance, asked about waiting for it in the future, but rep said no. Put me on hold and got $20 promo credit.

    • I was told if I buy that Rey one for $425 and when it's delivered, I can contact chat to get the price difference credited to my account.
It's risky but I was assured that they have put a note in the system so next support person is aware.

Do you think this is safe or it's too risky?
I took a screenshot of the chat but not sure if it's possible to attach file in the chat?

      • Let's look it this way, if they 100% will do it then go for it! But the thing is, the price difference would probably come in gift cards. So, if you don't mind spending $425 in exchange for amazon gc then you should do it, at the end of the day if they back out and not kept their promise, you can just send it back and refund. That's the only risk I see, converting your money into amazon gc.

        • Amazon gc has no expiry right?

            • @Riqodex: Who pays for return shipping to get full refund?

              • @OzFrugie: Im pretty sure cs will help you with a return parcel to be sent out.

                • @Riqodex: Interesting. If i purchase it then ask for refund of the price diff $365 in amazon gc, then ask for a return and get the refund $424.. i wonder if that would work.. if so, would profit $365 lol

                  • @OzFrugie: Don't think that would work, but you can try. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't they just refund only $59.12 because that is what you initially paid for the error one?

  • Refunded without returning, but when I asked about honoring the price, the response I got is “No”.

    Disappointed:(

    • You give up too easy mate. Be persistent, summon your inner Karen and demand to speak to the manager!

      • Yeah I noticed, and I am now asking for more again. Already spent 2 hours dealing with this.

    • Updates: After switching 8 agents, finally the last one issued me a $20 promo.

  • Incoming glut of play doh on ebay and gumtree.

I guess enough people have gone through customer service now, I received an automated message saying it was the incorrect product, and they've already processed a refund without return and given a $5 gift card. All in all, free play doh and $5, not a bad outcome

Yep, just came to post this too haha

    • +2

Looks like the hard work of Ozbargainers has forced Amazon's hand in providing a reasonable and efficient response to this error. Congrats to all those who managed to snap up the free playdoh!

    • Did this get sent to you after you contacted them or inadvertently?

      • If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure people who ordered the item got this notification but not sure if people who already got the item delivered got the notification since I'm still waiting for mine to arrive.

      • I haven't done anything, came out of the blue

  • +1

Amazon email just went out regarding the order. Basically saying a refund and you get to keep the Playdoh

  • Chatted with the 1st cs, after 30 mins he bailed on me lol, got transfer to another and that 2nd cs transferred me to a supervisor. I mention similar thing like @skido but at the end he said the max he could compensate me with was $50 after he looked at the price of the Rey's one lol. So I was suppose to get $50+$5 inbox but for some reason he gave me $55+$5 (not mad about it). Also I got the same message as others where I could keep the item and get refunded.
So if this was the case, I really doubt Amazon will allow you to buy the item for $59.12 once its available in Aus (this is hinting for those who was 'promised' by amazon chat) as I have asked about this in chat aswell.
So all in all, not a bad 40 min chat.

So to summarise, I get to keep the item, get a refund of $59.12 plus $5 credit to got with the error and $55 credit from customer support

P.S I did this before I'm even getting the item. My one is expected to arrive 28-30 September.

    • +1

I was curious and uh an unexpected thing just happened. I persisted and chatted just 1 more time if I could purchase the Rey version. Rep couldn't help me but transferred me to a supervisor, supervisor read the chat and just said they couldn't do and suddenly told me if I want $59.12 to be compensated with gc. This shocked me and ofc I accepted. Didn't expect that response but free money is free.
I think that's all the cs chat I'm gonna do because I don't want them to get suspicious.
So in total I got around $120.
not gonna touch chat anymore lol

  • +1

Damn no email for me - I was hoping to not have to bother going through chat.

The Playdoh is pretty cool though. I might get more use out of this than the lightsaber.

  • I had already organised a return for refund (worst outcome) but then saw about the generic response people were getting so just got back into chat and got the refund with no return. Pushed for a cheap purchase once available but got told I would be labelled an abuser. Asked why when it wasn't my mistake and got told to ask the abuser team. So I'm going to email them and see what kind of reply I get.

    • +1

Did they threaten you to label your account as an abuser for asking them to honour the $59 price when the lightsaber becomes available? If so, that is a whole new level of sh!t customer service.

      • Yeah exactly right. Not sure how it's my fault that they stuffed it up.

        • +1

Just shop elsewhere unless something exclusive to Amazon. There is nothing we can do about it. I have previously lodged complaints with ACCC and Consumer Protection in my state that Amazon sent used when I ordered a brand new coffee machine and they couldn’t be bothered to do anything but to ask me take it to magistrate court myself. We now live in a country that traders have absolute power to abuse consumers.

  • Cool - got a full refund without return. I also have unequivocally been guaranteed this price on the Obi Wan saber when it is re-listed, with no timeframe given - a note has been left on my account. Bloody awesome result! I can't believe this saga is not yet over though. Legendary deal.

    • u didn't get threatened with the naughty list? (ie. abuser team)

      • +1

Nope - shoutout to CS Bobby for being a madlad. I made it very clear what the agreement was.

    • I very much doubt they will honor what a customer service rep sais.

      • I somewhat agree, I'm fairly hesitant to put myself $500 in the hole for a toy lightsaber. But I was told very clearly what the deal was so the worst that happens is I return it for a full refund.

        • If they do go through with it, wouldn't the price difference that they refund you will be in gift cards? So essentially you're exchanging your money for Amazon gift card. Good, if you're planning on buying something with that stored credit in the future but it is a lot of money on the line.

  • I am talking to support and they are saying no such emails are being sent out to customers.

Took a while to finally get a refund, they kept saying its not part of the policy, getting a credit towards a new light saber was impossible.

    • But did you actually get the email or not? I thought everyone who ordered got an email and an amazon notification. For some reason I can't access the amazon notification (goes error request) but I still have the email from them which says the same thing.

You probably have to chat to different CS if one doesn't work out or even ask if you could chat to a supervisor

      • Did not get the email. I eventually got the refund without needing to return the play doh, but they were pretty insistent i return it for a while.

I didnt care about the play doh itself just didnt want to waste my time returning it.

  • Amazon refunded me no questions asked. It was processed on the 23rd according to chat automatically since they had got a number of complaints.

  • Went around twice with Amazon, the phone agent wanted me to post at post office and then provide a full refund. I refused the $60 postage charge at post office when Amazon had said $30. Second time the chat agent offered full refund. Keep play doh to give to neighbour's kids and $5 good will promo credit to account.

Told that light sabre just not possible at that price. Was offered Darth Vader equivalent for $470. Thank you, but no thank you.

    • Was the darth vader offer for free or refund for price difference? Or even worse from your own pocket?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure people who was 'assured' to be able to purchase at $59.12 will not be honored because as you said it's just not possible.

      • Totally out of own pocket, minus the $5 promo I suppose. I optimistically asked to buy it at $59.12 but received an emphatic 'No, this is not possible'

I was told that Amazon have launched an internal investigation into the whole mix up. I'm sure it's cost them a lot of time and effort in support.

        • Btw did you not receive the email that they sent out about the error? Because in that email they said you'll get the full refund, keep the item and a $5 compensation credit

          • @Riqodex: May have, but it's on the wife's account and she doesn't always read her emails, and I'm not game to tell her to read her flamin' emails :D

  • How does Amazon return usually work?
You can return any items no questions asked for 30 days, is that right?

Do they only process your refund when they receive the item back, or when you have sent it back to them?

  • Damn what a ride, i get to keep the play doh no need to return and got a refund. Also managed to order the "Rey Skywalker Force FX Elite Lightsaber" with a confirmation they will refund the price difference once it arrived. Just ask for the supervisor or manager and keep pushing them.

    • Congrats! Are you gonna keep or sell? I think you hit a lucky one for cs/supervisor. I think I chatted with about 7 cs (most of the time they transferred me around due to 'error') and 2 supervisors and all of them didn't allow me to purchase it and get a refund for the price different. But all in all, happy to get a $120 amazon gc credited from this.

      • Thanks bud, congrats on the gift card. It took me like 3 or 4 calls, I am definitely keeping this one for display. 😄

        • Any updates?

          • @Riqodex: I haven't got my delivery yet, bloody Aramex just put my delivery on hold for some reason.

          • +1

@Riqodex: Thanks, i finally went to pick it up in Dandenong South depot today, absolutely awesome lightsaber. 👌

            https://imgur.com/gallery/5JeRp0L

            • @WIND: Looking good! I guess now you're gonna contact support?
I wish they'd offer me that option since my room needs a bit of colour >.<

Edit: Also that comment on the image lol!

    • -1

Did you have any luck with this? I also had the same promise, but I have no real interest in Rey's saber. I've been waiting for Obi Wan's to actually get re-listed so I can jump on it.

      • I am still waiting for the delivery, then they will refunde the price difference.

        • Awesome!! I'm keen to hear if the refund goes through painlessly :)

          • +3

@Hinee: Yeah i got refunded, the supervisor left a note on my account .

  • +1

For those who got the handshake deal of getting the difference refunded, the Obi Wan lightsaber has been relisted for $522.47

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Star-Black-Replica-Force-Elite/dp/…

Went through chat to confirm my deal to refund the difference + priority shipping was still in place before putting in the order
First chat said not possible since the difference is so high; pointed to my previous chat where I had double/tripled confirmed with the agent and asked to chat to supervisor.
Supervisor ok'd the refund of the difference but just free expedited shipping
Order placed but no ETA; if choosing Priority shipping, does give delivery date by 24th Dec

    Fingers crossed

  • +3

Not sure if anyone is still tracking, but I got mine delivered today. As above, handshake deal through chat that when it was back in stock I could have it at the original price.

Difference ($450ish) was refunded when the order arrived.

      • Omg this thread it's been so long

      • Mine just shippwd. Fingers crossed its not playdoh

        • Update received Playdoh but amazon sent me another lightsaber instead

          • @Thunder-Wombat: As in another Obi Wan listing or another altogether?

Bit annoyed I'm still having to fight Amazon cs to honour their promise from the first time this deal was posted……..

            • +1

@Soothsayer: They sent me this one Hasbro STAR WARS - The Black Series - Leia Organa Force FX Elite Lightsaber

As the Obi Wan isn't in stock at all

      • Well, just got the play doh kitchen creations set.

Any advice on how I convince Amazon to send me a lightsaber?

  • This is going for around same price from Amazon US https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09D5Y72R3
