Preempting the inevitable comments below;

HODL! RTX 4090/4080 IMMINENT?
Official announcement 21/09/22 here in Australia. I think it's about 1am AEST? Actual sales date typically being a week or so after that.
Scenario A - New cards are priced competitively and even this heavily discounted 3080 Ti is a bad deal.
Scenario B - New cards are VERY expensive and a $1199 3080 Ti is still a great deal price/perf-wise.
We have zero knowledge of actual 4000 pricing, only the same rumors floating around the internet that everyone else has seen.

HODL! CHEAP USED MINING CARDS IMMINENT?
Maybe, but to what degree? There will always be people who prefer brand new with a solid warranty over a no-warranty card with questionable age and origin. Especially for a non-trivial dollar value.

Anywho; place your bets. Only time will tell!

Edit

Just to throw our hat in the prediction ring with all the comments below; we'll leave it here for prosperity posterity and see revisit post announcement to see how far off everyone was.

Warning : Pure Speculation Ahead
(AUD inc GST pricing)

  • RTX4090 24G $2800 to $3000 - Start of October
  • RTX4080 16G $1799 - Late October / Early Nov
  • RTX4080 12G $1499 - Late October / Early Nov
  • RTX3060 / 3060 Ti / 3070 Ti refresh (faster DRAM) - Before Christmas
  • RTX4070 $1299 - Q1 2023 depending on 3000 series sell through

First wave of cards Nvidia force everyone to sell non-OC models only and at MSRP, but constrain quantities so they sell out on purpose in the first week or two. Then AIB OC models hit 3-4 weeks later and 10-20% over MSRP and MSRP models are hard to come by.

Also worth remembering, 4000 series might need an expensive PCI-E Gen5 PSU upgrade to support the transient voltage spikes, at least the high end ones will. Making the GPU upgrade of effectively cost $300-400 higher again.

hope we're wrong!

Scenario C. The price of the next gen is fine but there is no supply so it's all moot. (But seriously who we kidding it'll be scenario B + supply issues).

  • It doesn't matter if scenario A or scenario B happens, in neither case do 3000 series cards increase in price, so the best choice is to wait for pricing next week - if new cards are more expensive a 3080ti will still be available for this price.

    • +1

Unless people buy all current stock. Then the abilitu to buy this wont happen

  • Good price, personally wouldn't buy tho.

  • +3

Scenario B. Cards will be expensive. But due to lack of sales, street prices will drop. Because nvidia has reserved loads of wafers and also US has banned sales to China.

Will second hand card hit the market? Probably, but we don’t know what number of miners were present in AUS. It will for sure be cheaper in countries like China and 🇺🇸

    • we don’t know what number of miners were present in AUS. It will for sure be cheaper in countries like China and 🇺🇸

If second-hand prices fall a lot in some countries, they won't magically stay high here.

No seller is gonna be "hmm, I could get $300 each for my GPUs here, or $500 each if I also ship to Australians. $300 each it is, then!"

      • Of course I understand some people sell to other countries too. but that 50 to 100$ shipping eats into the margins. Easier for people to sell it in the same country.

2nd hand ex mining card is suitable for budget hodlers. brand new 40xx command premium price.

brand new 30xx stock level is coming down.

      • +1

If card used for mining are very old, then its risky. An year old or lesser card should be fine for ocassional gamers who wont stress cards much - like me.

Regarding 3xxx stocks, i read that there are years worth of stocks remaining.

Wait till the Ethereum miners realise the fork of eth is rubbish. They are still holding on to their equipment the clowns. Once the fork fails and no exchange wants to support it or its updates they will sell for peanuts!

  • +8

HODL until late 2023. No games worth upgrading for now anyway.

    • +1

I was thinking about this, what really needs even a 3090 series except 4k or RTX.

      • +1

VR unfortunately also eats all the power you can throw at it. This is the fourth time I'm upgrading my GPU in a decade to play Skyrim (but in high res VR this time).

    • +1

Escape from Tarkov ultra 1440p and warzone 2

  • +5

    HODL

    3090 should be $800

    • I agree.

  • HODL peeps

  • why spend on 3000 series when 4000 series have been leaked and ideally be announced shortly. If 3000 series are still overstocked, prices will plunge whereas consumer can get a fair idea about the competition with the 4000 series - if value for the dollar.

Nothing wrong to buy 3080 ti at a low price like this, yall forget hat happened to 2080 ti when 3080 was about to hit market.

Saying that I won’t, my 2080 super is scheduled to retire next year so not yet

    • +1

That was crazy! All those people who sold the 2080Ti were in soup. Samsung's initial yields were also partly to blame. I have a feeling this time it would be better. Better yields, lots of existing stocks and less demand and no mining.

      • Okay but AMD used TMSC and their cards were bad for mining yet still didn't have enough stock on launch and still had no stock just like Nvidia. How does the above theory account for that?

        • +2

AMD had to share the limited wafers between GPUs, CPUs, Server CPUs, XBOX and PS5. Also AMD entered the market couple of months late with thier 6XXX GPUs by which mining had picked up. So the amount of GPUs they could manufacture was limited because they had an agreement with MS and Sony and had to honour thier contract.

To add fuel to the fire, many people had skipped Turing because the VFM for 2xxx cards were very bad and there was a huge demand.

          • @John Doh: Disagree, but guess we don't have long to wait to find out. To clarify, I agree with the overall premise that people won't be waiting anywhere near as long for cards this next gen but the launches will still sell out because they deliberately do paper ones, regardless of wafter production or any other factors.

I think you mean posterity instead of prosperity. Seems like a good deal on 3080ti though

    • Ah yes! auto-correct / swiftkey strikes again.

  • If the speculative price for the 4000 series is true, nobody will buy it. I rather have no GPU at all, and keep playing games on my Xbox Series X with Game Pass Ultimate. I'm not going to give my hard-earned cash to team green.

    • come on.. have you seen nvidia share price? if they dont sell means no profit… and bear market for crypto will be 12 months. do u think they will put high price and not selling it?

  • +5

I mean it's admirable that the rep is reminding you of the impending release of 4000 series cards, but ask yourself this:

Why would a retailer push the sale of a card, less than a week before 4000 series announcement? 100% they think that the retail value of this 3080ti card will be less than this price after the announcement.

    • +1

Option A: you are correct in the retailer pushing out old/outdated stock to make more money

Option B: reps are people too and they can meme, have fun, speculate, like the rest of us.

    • 100% agree. Trying to push as much stock as they can at this price while they still can. Which makes sense from their point of view but it means they know what's coming.

  • +3

NVIDIA are stock piling these thing's like diamonds now to drive up the demand and hold the juicy prices they got through Covid.

    Greed!

  • +2

RIP for who surrendered and failed to HODL for this discount.

Like iPhone this price will further down on release date and furter discount on announce date

  • +2

With inflation the way it is, I doubt super expensive cards will move at any tangible volume.

  • Are there any leaks on the AMD release? Don't really want to switch to the green side.

  • Will you get spiderman game if you buy

  • +1

LOL this one still in stock. I knew it

  • I've been keeping an eye on prices of GPUs for the last 2 months and was in no hurry to get one, but this is very tempting. Good on rep for mentioning the impending release of 40 series GPU, it would be even better if postage is included.

  • Need a Scenario C - nVidia repeats history of their GTX480 by producing their most power hungry card to date that outputs as much heat as a oven, and AMD still beats them for half the power used. Three words - Four Slot Cards!

  • Scenario B - New cards are VERY expensive and a $1199 3080 Ti is still a great deal price/perf-wise.

Even if this is the case, you might as well wait because it's not like stocks of these are dwindling. Either you get a better deal when new ones come out or you pay a similar price for one of these. There's not going to be FOMO at this price.

Unless you need to replace a broken card or build from scratch right now.

    • yes press POSITIVE so more people buy 3080 so 4080 release sooner

  • Does the fan stop on this when not playing a game?

  • EVGA will no longer produce Nvidia graphic cards any more. In another word, EVGA will not follow Nvidia’s price protection policy. Wait for EVGA discount on their 30s GPU baby!

  • will drop to $900 when 4 series comes out HODL

    • -5

SOLD OUT, can drop to $0 and no one gives a piss.

  • Well then…

  • +1

turns out this was a good bargain
all the hodl warriors just got slapped hard by Jensen :P

    • Guess the hodl will need to continue until Novemer 3rd when AMD drops their new line up.
I'm hoping to get a new GPU but missed this deal, with the new announcement can anyone tell me what good/great prices are for current 30 series are, based on performance/price :)

  • I just wanta 5800X3D prebuilt
