  • looking for portable SSD, this needs shell for usb?

    • Yes, you need a 2.5" enclosure.

    • Pictures indicate it just has a SATA interface. You could either buy an adapter, or buy a shell that has one if you also want additional physical protection for it.

      I paid for a PNY CS2241 4TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD and a Simplecom NVMe SATA M.2 SSD USB-C Enclosure with
RGB Light USB 3.2 Gen 2 (SE525) and all up cost me $361

      from umart.

I get 1024MB Read and Write

might be an option if you want very fast storage.

These drives are still overpriced when you can buy a vastly better performing nvme drives in similar price range. Maybe the plastic enclosure costs them $$$ to manufacture ;)

Only reason to purchase a 2.5" SATA SSD would be if you filled up all the M.2 slots on your motherboard (or your motherboard doesn't support M.2).

    • Can you link to a sub $184 Samsung ir better nvme SSD 2TB?

I'm in the market for one and the best i can find is the SP ones.

    • These are over priced because nvme is better. You only get Sata drives for older PC's or you ran out of pcies.

Last time I ordered from UK Amazon they never sent it and took over a month to cancel it. Meant I missed other good deals and ended up buying from one of the cheaper brands with similar specs. A lot of people posted in the thread similar issues.

Sata is really slow. You might wonder when it will bother you, well when you’re updating steam games and they need to verify 60gb it’s an issue. My laptops NVME does it in a matter of seconds whereas the desktop with a SATA 870 struggles and takes forever.

    I've just finished submitting RMA number 4 for Samsung nMVEs. 2 x 2Tb 980s and 2 x 1Tb 970s all with well known read-only mode issue

Credit to the rather painless RMA process but when I've not another single SSD/nVME drive fail ever there is no way I'd be buying Samsungs again anytime soon

  • What happened to the 4tb drive deals?
