Here's Chyrosran22's review of the max model

  • What's the difference between the three please which should I pick for an everyday work/home use?

    • If I'm not mistaken, the differences between the 3 are the switch types. There's a linear variant, tactile variant and a speed switch variant (which are most likely also linears). What keyboard do you currently have?

I think razer huntsman on sale would be a better deal

    • +4

Fyi, Everest ones are hot swappable…

      • +2

        Killer feature IMHO

  • I only have a regular hp keyboard, I have no idea about keyboards but want to upgrade as these prices seem really good

  • What special about these $100+ keyboards compared to around $30-$50 one?

    • +5

If you're talking about $30-$50 membrane keyboards, then subjectively better feel, sound and looks. A ~$10 keyboard and a $200 keyboard however will both perform their jobs to the same degree (as does a $5 watch compared to a $100 watch)

      • Better build quality
      • Mechanical switches
      • Reliability - cheap mech keyboards fail or have issues
      • Sound profile
      • Brand of switch - In house on this board, so a bit of an unknown

Looking at this board specifically. Specs:
      https://mountain.gg/keyboards/everest-60

      • Soundproofing in the chassis (note that there will still be noise from the keys - these don't have o-rings)
      • PBT keycaps will take longer to shine than ABS. The sound is also generally preferred
      • Ability to connect a numpad (Available for an extra $34 in the sale)
      • Good summary.

In response to the previous person’s query about membrane vs mech, I used to get sore fingers typing on typical membrane keyboards. Couple of years ago I got a CM Storm Stealth (no lighting, letters printed on the front of the key caps), and love it still. No sore fingers any more too.

Edit: my keyboard has Cherry MX brown switches. I’d be keen on red too if I were to get another.

Edit 2: My wife has a Logitech G430 or something and it’s definitely not as nice, and a couple of key caps have broken off.

  • Refreshing spring water and mechanical keyboards? What else is up there?

You don't need it but it will look nice as part of your "collection"

Somehow I have better keyboards but I'm still considering this.

      Is this how addicts live?

    • +1

That's what I thought too. But my order is already in. So here we are.

  • is it wireless?

Oh man…I've always wanted an Everest Max Modular but I think the missus will kill me after buying 2 Keychron K4's, a K10, a K6 and an Iqunix F96 that I mix up between WFH and work.

  • Good for hiking?

These are hot swappable too, making it easy to replace the keys if you end up with a failure. This is why I pounced on the pc case gear deal recently for the everest max.

One thing to be aware of is that the software is Windows only. I'm a Linux user so just had to configure the keyboard via Windows and then bring it across to my machine. I have the Cherry brown version and I love it. The wrist rest is very nice too.

    • How much was the max on PC Case Gear?

      • 199 plus 15 postage

        • +1

Whoa… That was a good price too at $214 delivered. But still, lucky i just jumped on this deal this morning which ends up $220 delivered.

  • Dann. The numpad one looks good. It's not fully supported on Linux though.
    I use arch btw.

    • +1

It works fine on Linux, You just have to configure it via Windows. How often do you plan on reconfiguring? Volume dial and media keys work fine. I programmed the num pad screen keys to be f14-f17 and mapped them in Gnome that way. Fedora 36 here.

    • Lol… Arch Linux

  • +2

Here's a Linux flavoured write up by a person I know:

    https://blog.pcfe.net/hugo/posts/2022-01-15-keyboard-everest…

I'd buy mine again at this price, honestly.

  • can't C&C :(
thought i can pick one up today.

Damn none of the Max showing as available for delivery or pickup

edit: Got the order through for the one I wanted with some strategic f5 mashing while it was in cart. Thanks OP and Top reply!

Got the max from a prior deal with my review here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12467267/redir

    A most excellent keyboard.

Nice overview Thiefsie. Did any of your software related cons get worked out with updates or tinkering?

      • +1

I figured out the Xbox app launch issue with this: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/starti… to get shell command and made a bat file to launch it from.

The only outstanding issue that bugs me is the way the dial/knob can't revert to volume control while still showing a clock as I've tried to explain.

        • Thanks for that. Good to know that's working as I had planned on popping the xbox app on there to.

I understand what you mean about vol not overriding the clock display. I think I'd be fine just leaving it on volume. Kinda wasteful for such a screen but I think I'll be okay with it until mountain either updates the software with all the feedback that they're getting or just go open source (which I doubt they'll ever do).

Thanks again for the update! Have a good one!

          • @Nitr0: FN pageup and pagedn change volume so I'm satisfied now… I don't use the dial but it's there if I want it, Per Bargain Dogs post below.

  • Ah, the max black keyboard with mx brown switches is on back order with a delivery by 21 December to my postcode :/

    • Jan for me

  • I've got one of these. The TKL version is decent, perfectly fine for the money.

But my keychron has a nicer "ping" - I think it could do with a little lubing. But I haven't got round to it. Very nice box, build quality is decent feels solid.

  • Anyone know if the Core version, without the Media dock, can control media (Volume, pause/play, etc.) natively via Fn + F keys?

Unsure about spending almost double on the Max when I won't use the numpad and I'd rather get a universal wrist rest I can use with other keyboards too.
